This is one of the best car related videos I've seen on here. Well done
This video was very accurate. I was able to complete the whole job in about 2 hours. The only issue I ran into was that the notches inside of the assembly where the headlight and blinker light sit aren’t as pronounced as the factory ones and it takes a bit of effort to get the lights back in and locked down without breaking anything. Other than that the headlight assembly fit just like the old ones and the video was a big help.

This is one of the best done videos on youtube, among all car videos. Makes it look real easy.
One thing that would have made it better is if they mentioned which direction to turn the adjusting screws. Many cars this old don't have the manuals. Adjusting the wrong way can mess these things up.
Made and easy job even easier. Helps to know where all the clips, bolts and screws are located. After watching this job took less than 30 minutes! Much Thanks!!

This was a really great source of info. The small metal cap on the headlight reflector had detached itself on my English VW Bora (same as the Jetta). Thanks to your instructions I was able to get the headlight out of the car and re-attach the metal cap.

Many thanks for your informative video. The procedure also worked on my wife's 2005 Jetta GLS TDI first edition; headlight assemblies looks like the '04. Yes, VW did not make it easy to swap out the assemblies. Can't wait to see her car re-assembled and washed with the new eyes! Cheers.
thanks for an amazingly helpful video. Got the headlight assemblies replaced in no time. All my screws were T25s. And after re=assembly I was left with a 'spare' screw. Should have watched your video in reverse!

Great video, it helped me changed my headlight on my Jetta. Its so easy on my Civic lol. After I put everything back together, my two side parking lights dont work. Did I do something wrong?
Thanks for the reply! I did end up checking out the area and the passenger-side bulb is easily accessible. The Driver-side has a plastic shield which can be removed easily with a standard Philips screwdriver, allowing access to the bulb - just in case anyone else finds this info useful.

There are normally mounting points where the bumper and fender match up so removing some of the fender lining is going to show where all of those points are and whether you need to remove the bumper to access them.
The bolts holding the bumper cover on are T-25 and T-30...
Seems very Usefull. Just bought my Passat new Headlights. This should apply.
I was able to resolve the issue..turns out the light bulb housing on passenger side for indicator was defective, swapped it with the housing from the old headlights and worked fine. All lights appear to be working correctly ( Hi/Lo, Indicators,DRL's ). I understand these may not be the ideal headlights for my model ( originally no fogs ) but I do not plan on using the fogs as they have no bulbs and I removed the ground wires for each. This video was extremely helpful to do the job.
@DkWarley The adjusters are on the back of the light. You should be about 25' away from a wall or garage door when you adjust the beam. Hope this helps you out.

@Punabenz The passat should be similar. If you come to a point where it is not working, don't force it. Take a step back and look from a different angle to see if you are missing something.
@vw407 You may be able to get them from the dealer. Usually them can look them up for you.
You may want to check the headlights to see if they match the old ones correctly. Some of these cars also had an internal fog light option, which may be the reason for the extra pinning.
We currently do not have an auto repair video that shows you this particular repair. You should be able to access the bolts that hold them in place from inside the trunk area.
Your local auto body paint supply store should be able to do this for you.
@lew389 We currently do not have an auto repair video on that particular model. You should be able to access the back of the headlights through the engine compartment without having to remove the bumper cover.
@lolimb You should be able to serivce the bulbs without removing the cover, but yes I do believe you have to remove the battery,
Problems I ran into and solved:
1. Torx bolts rusted - had to cut the heads off and replace 2 out of the three horizontal ones in front.
2. My 2002 VW Jetta had no fog lamps. The replacement Eagle Eyes lamps are wired for fog lamps, with an extra black wire and extra brown ground wire. Driver's side turn signal would not work/fault when headlights on. I solved this by removing the fog lamp wires.
3. Indicator lamp holder must contact with bulb - check all before reassembly!

I'd say change lenses if cracked, damaged or fogging can't be stopped.
The 3M product ($13 - $25) that grinds and polishes using a cordless drill and sanding disks reallyworked nice for me. You tube has 3M video.
@thetwopointslow Usually things like that are held it with tabs or clips. It shouldn't be to difficult to remove.

@TheFL370 The Passat's headlight design is different from the Jetta. The mounting locations more than likely will be different.
@mbb3 There should be three bolts that need to be removed in order to replace them.
Thanks for this video. If you just want to replace the bulb but keep the same headlight, do you have to go through the same procedure (ie bumper removal)? It looks like you'd have to remove the battery at minimum.

I have a quick question (that I haven't yet gotten an answer to from anywhere else) since this video has to do with removing the bumper: Is the rub strip section on the bumper held on by clips? And is it easy to pop out?
I need to put a new rub strip on my car and it'd be a golden piece of help if I knew how it all works, before I end up taking off my front bumper to survey it

If the new headlights have bulbs in them sometimes the factory leaves a "test bulb" in them. We recommend buying a decent bulb from the auto parts store as they will seal a lot better to prevent this from happening. Hope this helps you out. This is a great video, and thank you so much for posting it... But I just followed it to the dot and my headlights are in my car (2001 Jetta) but will not turn on. The only oddity that I noticed was that the connector on my old headlights had only 6 of the 10 pins (four on top and two on bottom) as does the other end on the car, while the new lights have all ten, but I can't imagine why that would matter. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you again for the video!
You may want to check the fuses to see if any of them are blown.

Thanks for the response, just realized the new Eagle Eye headlights have fog light wiring when the old ones do not. I followed your video which was very helpful, but when I turn on day-time running lights the passenger side (amber) parking light does not come on, but the driver side does. Both indicators work correctly, it is just when the headlights are on the passenger side amber does not light up. Any ideas how to overcome this?

I need to replace my tail lights and my headlights . I already ordered some new tail lights but the reason the old ones got messed up was because water got in them. Do you think buying new ones will stop it? Or should I do additional things in order for water can not enter the tail or head lights?

Just to clarify, I have 02 Jetta with amber bulbs that I am replacing with new headlight set that have clear bulbs, do I need to put amber bulbs in the new set I bought? Or can I just plug in harness and be okay with clear bulbs on 02?

I dont like the square casing. Is it possible to get oval casing like newer models? Where would I go to get this done?
We carry replacement headlights on our website. We're not aware of what modification would need to be done to the vehicle to mount the different style headlights. It may not be possible to switch to a different style.

You may want to ask the dealer what you would need to add to your vehicle to enable that feature.
