Here's the thing I see a lot of people complaining in the comments, I struggled with acne for decades and spent years hiding my face behind heavy foundation and feeling awful every time I took it off. Then, I started shifting my beauty budget to a 1) healthy diet 2) good skincare routine. Once you do both, you will be able to use makeup to only highlight your features, not hide behind it. Thank you Violette for showing us how!
I appreciate the French minimalist makeup philosophy. They're all about enhancing what's already there and taking really good care of their skin. Honestly, her claims are very cultural. Every country has a different standard for beauty. Nevertheless, I hope I get to do makeup like this one day when skin is clear haha.
Another great video! The trick of leaving the nose free of foundation is especially helpful for us eyeglasses wearers. I can't believe I didn't think of that trick before, and that is why we need you, V!
PingwingWi omg i have broken blood vessel on my nose too. Its so annoying and nothing able to cover it. Its always there i just get used to it and trying to love it cause really nobody cares it and you shouldnt too. Dont get down because of a stupid redness😉
Thousands of makeup artist here on TH-cam....but as I thought....the best one ,you Violet tell us the truth and making sooo much sense....Less is more and letting our true self shine through....Thankyou so much!!!
I have such a red nose (and oily too)...so I unfortunately need foundation on my nose. But I love sheer foundation and love how she applies everything. Sometimes I’m so used to seeing beauty gurus cover their entire face even if they don’t need it and feel like I might be doing something wrong but violet reassured me that I’m not and letting your skin peak out is beautiful
Aaah, such a beautiful woman. No need for layers of makeup when you have skin like her, finally someone I can follow and use the tips for everyday natural makeup.
Violette, I totally agree with your philosophy of skin looking real. BUT, I’ve got a red nose and if I don’t cover it with something, I look terrible! We older women need something to hide a bit of rosacea sometimes! What is your advice?
i love and trust your tutorials so much. you do and teach your makeup tips just like my mom, she basically taught me all of this and i love that when i see your videos i remember and get reason behind why this works love you
Your skin is so lush! And I'm definitely using your no makeup tip on nose! I were heavy makeup for work and find my nose makeup always moves or highlights my large nose pores!
French lessons : fashion pls!!! I wanna see fashion on your channel plssssss I neeed to see this more on your channel 😩😩 these foundation tips are gonna save my skin
Violette - I'd love to see your makeup style on someone with quite active rosacea. Like whole cheek to jaw and entire nose redness. But still make that chic light makeup.
My rosacea is genetic. I'm have a cosmetic sciences degree so my skin care is on point as is my diet and the ingredients in the bases I use. I was interested in Violettes techniques on someone with significant redness.
I like the idea of the node thing but i have black dots on my nose and i have oily skin so when i didnt put something on my nose it looks so bad during the day. I never use foundation i have pretty clear skin i only use concealer where ever i need.
That's why I like to take care for my skin,so that I don't need much foundation. Sometimes when it's hot I wear only concealer,or cc cream- that's great for the summer! Also I loved the video ❤️
I am so glad that I have found your channel, you give so useful tips And there is something about your personality, that makes me want to watch all your videos, hope it doesn't sound creepy 😊😊😊🌸
My nose gets red too, from a different skin issue. Nothing covers it, it comes from under the skin. So sometimes I play it up like a tan/burn, using a light bronzer on those parts instead of heavy base or color corrector.
millie nettleton hi :) Bye Bye Redness by It Cosmetics. I've heard great things about it, and It Cosmetics is a spectacular brand for "discolorations". also, i enjoy using a green color corrector.
millie nettleton Embrace it !!!! I have exactly the same problem and I have had a complex about my red cheeks and tomato looking face for years.... but now that I am an adult (25 y-o) I am finally over it !!!! To everyone struggling with rosacea, I wanna say.... think of it as a natural blush !!! :) Less is better and we shouldn’t use too much foundation just to cover it. Using too much foundation ruins the skin. Instead, as a daily makeup it is better to only use concealer or B.B./cc cream and learn to apply it in a way that covers the redness just enough but leaves the charm of slightly red cheeks and nose !!! Personally, my skin has become much better since I nearly stopped using foundation this year... it has been a huge step for me and I was very ashamed at first thinking that people were looking at my red face but now I love my red cheeks and nose and think it is really cute !! And I will never need to spend money buying blush unlike fair skinned people! Haha! Of course it is alright to go for a full makeup when hanging out sometimes !!! Anyways I just hope anyone with rosacea will read my message and learn how to love it !!! It’s not gonna disappear so we better embrace it 💕 (and believe me, some men might find it very adorable!!)
Yes, I was going to ask them to please move the camera more and also to go in and out of focus more because it is not giving me enough of a headache. Is this supposed to be cool to film that way? I find it a bit obnoxious tbh.
I see many comments of people who feel bad because something violet suggests doenst work for them. I generally don't agree with the idea of makeup rules. Everybody's skin and needs are different. if you don't have imperfections its nice to apply a very little amount of foundation. if u have acne or redness however there is still a way to make it look very natural by using a light base and then pinpoint concealing. Or using foundation only where your face is red. What I'm saying is that u shouldn't feel bad if her tips dont work for you. You just have to follow a different technique. I suggest checking out Lisa Eldridge if you have acne. she's a makeup artist and I've learnt so much from her about covering imperfections.
Yesssss VIOLETTE!!! I think I'm loving the new tom ford lately...i try to put my use fdtn on my lower cheeks where I have redness and anywhere I have redness. I tried la mer, but I couldn't w the fragrance. GA made my skin itch :( I returned both... I would really love to see more tutorials w the urban decay moondust palette! :)
Well, what she first said is that it’s better to address what’s needed and leaving the rest be! So if you only have say your nose and a few spots then cover those and leave the rest of your face be! We all have different needs when it comes to cosmetics!
love this look, what shadow do you recco in place of hammered for someone w medium skin, blue grey eyes, and light brown hair. hammered is too green for me :/
Is it ok to use some foundation on the neck too,? I have a hard time finding the right foundation, would plz do video about it especially if you have some tricks. Love you
Violette do you have a favorite red nail polish? I see that here you're wearing russian roulette. Is this your favorite? I'm really struggling to find a perfect red, my complexion is similar to yours but slightly more tan. Your nails always look on point, i'm sure you have something to say about finding the "perfect red". I specially struggle to find good reds in gel. do you wear gel polish or plain?
is there a foundation, cc or DD cream, or tint moisturiser, that actually is super super light, is not heavy at all, is super moisturiser, it doesn't have a finished that is powedery or greasy and keeps you looking like you have nothing?? am I asking too much?
Cami Camila : Have u looked into the IT Cosmetics CC Cream with SPF 50+? It is lightweight, at the same time buildable and it gives a dewy, semi-matte finish. It also contains skin-loving antioxidants for ingredients. Hope this CC cream ticks off your checklist 😄
I hate any form of powder because I am allergic to it. So I use everything in a cream form. I am just asking maybe someone has a good experience with something similar. I also have dry skin and really heavy stuff is super uncomfortable for me 😥
Captain Pancakes Thank you!! I will look into it since I haven't heard from that brand. I was thinking maybe in Glossier or like an All natural brand. If someone is interested I bought a Honey Bee Garden lipstick ( it is a natural brand) and is super moisturiser and it is matted. How cool is that?
i only put foundation on the under eye area because it makes makeup removal quicker and brightens the centre of the face. i dont think i've ever put foundation on my forehead or nose
Thục Linh Võ i'm not at all experienced in makeup here, but maybe you could put foundation on but in thin layer so it still looks natural or put bronzer across the check and nose to make you look all bronzed up hehe
Juliette YT Yes exactly! It makes you look like you've been out in the sun and got sunkissed. I've seen some youtubers do that, I thought it was cute! I even put bronzer on my nose now😅
If you have problem skin her approach is actually amazing because it allows your skin to breathe. All the chemicals in make-up can make the skin bug out. Try adding turmeric to meals or a plant based diet if you have sensitive skin. A lot of skin issues are dietary. It sucks to walk out in public with zits and problem skin I feel that pain, but fruits and veggies are the solution. After you have a solid diet routine then you can use her amazing beauty tips to enhance your natural beauty and feel empowered to have a more bare beauty look.
The shaky camera would be cute if this were a short, quick video set to music, but it just gives me a headache and makes it impossible to focus on the actual content here.
Violette!!! Does it exists a concealer for very dark eye circles, that actually works and doesn't dry or cracks? I tried a very heavy one thinking that it would cover better but actually I ended up looking super old.
Try some with more orange/peachy or yellow undertones, I can't recommend anything that does not dry though. I don't use anything creamy that does not set as that would crease like crazy on the undereyes. The only kind of non-setting concealer that worked alright for me would be rimmel wake me up but it's definetely not a full coverage concealer, I use it for super lightweight make up days and press in some transluscent powder to make it last.
You have the perfect skin, of course you don't like foundation. What about the ones with acnes, with redness, scars on their faces or with blackhead, huge pores on their noses?
Zzz Yyy i have blackheads on my nose and the rest of my face is clear i do the opposite of she said i put concealer on my nose and under my eyes and thats it. But i feel you cause some months around my exam weeks i have pretty bad acnes due to my stress but try using bb cremes or something. Really foundations are make your skin worse go to doctor and try to solve your acne problem cause covering it just make it worse
That, i believe, is why she said she understands that some women with skin conditions feel they have to wear it. I don't really understand why people are reacting the way they do to this video. She's simply talking about her preferences. Not forcing anyone to follow her suggestions or putting down women who wear foundation.
Beste Karaca yes! This is how my face is, I use concealer on and around my nose, the sides of my mouth and under my eyes. That’s it. The rest of my skin is even and clear. I like RMS uncover up bc it melts into my skin, and is natural. But I love the philosophy of using only what you need to cover up.
These tips are good, but as always makeup is very individual and what works for one person, may not work for another. You need to adapt the makeup to the needs of your skin. Also, Violette is lucky to have a very good skin. Not everyone is as blessed, hence the steps taken during makeup application would vary if your skin is less than perfect.
And what to do If my nose is usually red ? :D I will look like horrible if i dont put makeup on it :D But anyway I get what you want to say and love the video.
Then look up a video that tells you how to cover up a certain flaw. it's 2017 there are plenty of tips online how to cover up different imperfections. If you can't find a video or anything online then ask a mua at a store. I'm pretty sure walking into a store would be more helpful than looking online anyway.
I love it! I also don`t apply foundation on my nose because I have my freckles and I love them :) I love french girls they look gorgeous! I hate that US make-up because it`s tooooooo much... too fake overlining of the lips, too fake lashes, too fake eyebrows, too fake contouring and highlight, fake "ducky" lips, fake eye color...
Unfortunately my face is a lot paler then the rest of my body. If I use foundation that is the same shade as my face, I honestly look so pale. However if I was to use this foundation technique with my normal foundation that is the colour of my body, and only apply it in sparse places, I would be all blotchy 🙄
I have to say... I don't really like the idea of covering my natural face with lots of artificial things. I just wouldn't feel that I am beautiful; I'd just feel like it was someone else's face painted on mine.

I like that girls hair ALOT.
Her foundation approach has been a life saver for my oily skin. Only a bit where I need it and I'm good to go.
This is perfect! I absolutely love Violette's makeup philosophy
I appreciate the French minimalist makeup philosophy. They're all about enhancing what's already there and taking really good care of their skin. Honestly, her claims are very cultural. Finally some actually useful tips on foundation that aren't about pouring half of the bottle of it on your face! THANK YOU
I wish i had freckles on my nose, but I only have a lot of blackheads and some broken blood vessels there
PingwingWi omg i have broken blood vessel on my nose too. Its so annoying and nothing able to cover it. Its always there i just get used to it and trying to love it cause really nobody cares it and you shouldnt too. Dont get down because of a stupid redness😉
PingwingWi i have freckles on the bridge of my nose but the tip and the nostrils are covered in redness so are my cheeks chin and jaw it sucks
thats beautiful in its own way too
Thousands of makeup artist here on TH-cam....but as I thought....the best one ,you Violet tell us the truth and making sooo much sense....Less is more and letting our true self shine through....Thankyou so much!!!
Your videos are the first makeup videos i've been excited about in a long time
I have such a red nose (and oily too)...so I unfortunately need foundation on my nose. But I love sheer foundation and love how she applies everything. Sometimes I’m so used to seeing beauty gurus cover their entire face even if they don’t need it and feel like I might be doing something wrong but violet reassured me that I’m not and letting your skin peak out is beautiful
This is the best make up tutorial to just look good as you are!
Violette is just so fabulous and brilliant! I looove her smile!
Aaah, such a beautiful woman. No need for layers of makeup when you have skin like her, finally someone I can follow and use the tips for everyday natural makeup.
I think this is the best advice for natural foundation, no foundation on the nose ! Thanks, I love it ! Hi from New Caledonia :-)
you're such the best, I really like that I'm not alone of not really using foundation bc I like the feel of just bare skin
Violette, I totally agree with your philosophy of skin looking real. BUT, I’ve got a red nose and if I don’t cover it with something, I look terrible! We older women need something to hide a bit of rosacea sometimes! What is your advice?
i loooove this I'm glad I found this channel everything about this I love I love makeup but I love looking natural
i do wait your videos literally every single day
So love your approach to make up. Truly inspiring and it makes me want to be creative as well. Look forward to all the tricks and tips in the videos.
I love Violette so much!! She's amazing!!

Violette - I'd love to see your makeup style on someone with quite active rosacea. Like whole cheek to jaw and entire nose redness. But still make that chic light makeup.
Erin MacPherson foundation will actually make rosacea worse. I know it does for me. Focus on skincare, be careful what foods to eat etc. 😘😘😘
My rosacea is genetic. I'm have a cosmetic sciences degree so my skin care is on point as is my diet and the ingredients in the bases I use. I was interested in Violettes techniques on someone with significant redness.
Something sheer and not too dry. Surratt dew drops foundation. The best I have ever tried! 🙋🏼♀️
I like the idea of the node thing but i have black dots on my nose and i have oily skin so when i didnt put something on my nose it looks so bad during the day. I never use foundation i have pretty clear skin i only use concealer where ever i need.

Yes, I was going to ask them to please move the camera more and also to go in and out of focus more because it is not giving me enough of a headache. Is this supposed to be cool to film that way? I find it a bit obnoxious tbh.
Seriously. I couldn't focus on her. I eventually stopped watching.

So chic as always!
Wild to me that people do everything BUT their nose. My pink nose is what I try to cover!
Isabel Mcnally same 😩
Well, what she first said is that it’s better to address what’s needed and leaving the rest be! So if you only have say your nose and a few spots then cover those and leave the rest of your face be! We all have different needs when it comes to cosmetics!
Please do a hair tutorial from washing to finish thanks
Jenny Leon yes I'd love this to!
Have you found a new product for the la prairie since it’s been discontinued?
love this look, what shadow do you recco in place of hammered for someone w medium skin, blue grey eyes, and light brown hair. hammered is too green for me :/
Is it ok to use some foundation on the neck too,? I have a hard time finding the right foundation, would plz

just found your second channel! love love love your videos xx
nose make up free is the greatest tip!!! thanks
Violette is the best!!!
I use concealer in a similar way, but now I want to try it with foundation!
I am so confused between Mac face and body,Mac studio water weight and Chanel vitallumiere which one is good?
I'm gonna try this technique! ❤
Violette do you have a favorite red nail polish? I see that here you're wearing russian roulette. Is this your favorite? love watching you . i want you to do my twin sisters and i make up 😫
And here I thought I was weird since I never put foundation on my nose lol good to know it's actually a good thing.
is there a foundation, cc or DD cream, or tint moisturiser, that actually is super super light, is not heavy at all, is super moisturiser, it doesn't have a finished that is powedery or greasy and keeps you looking like you have nothing?? am I asking too much?
i dont think foundations can provide any of these. the closest i found is tinted moisturizer (or bb cream). using some setting powder helps in summer

Cami Camila the glossier skin tint works great!!
what skirt and shoes was she wearing in this video?
love this woman!
i only put foundation on the under eye area because it makes makeup removal quicker and brightens the centre of the face. i dont think i've ever put foundation on my forehead or nose
You're the best! Really! Merci ❤️
What if the color of your nose is too different from the rest of your face? My nose is always more tan and it just looks so annoying :(
Thục Linh Võ i'm not at all experienced in makeup here, but maybe you could put foundation on but in thin layer so it still looks natural or put bronzer across the check and nose to make you look all bronzed up hehe
lol i thought i was the only one! i usually use just powder my nose instead of foundation and then powder
Fransiska N ooh make the color difference look intensional haha
Juliette YT Yes exactly! It makes you look like you've been out in the sun and got sunkissed. I've seen some youtubers do that, I thought it was cute! I even put bronzer on my nose now😅
Nice ideas guys I'll try it :))))
what book is that one the table?

Super le tuyeau pour le nez, brava Violette
would love to see the products names on screen as she used them
Omg, I’m not an expert but even I don’t apply foundation everywhere on the face. I definitely exclude the nose! I just put it on my cheek area. X
Violette!!! Does it exists a concealer for very dark eye circles, that actually works and doesn't dry or cracks? I tried a very heavy one thinking that it would cover better but actually I ended up looking super old.

Zzz Yyy take better care of your skin
Some people have acne no matter what they do so telling someone to take better care of their skin is a bit daft
That, i believe, is why she said she understands that some women with skin conditions feel they have to wear it. I don't really understand why people are reacting the way they do to this video. I love your intro outfit 😍😍😍
Great video!!! ❤️❤️❤️
so refreshing in this sea of overly contoured, plump-lipped makeup gurus
who makes leather skirt?
As someone with oily skin, I approve!
Kitty h
Love this!
Not adding foundation to your nose was such a great tip! I've never thought of that.
What if the middle of your nose is kind of red and has big pores?
do you have oily or dry skin type ??
And what to do If my nose is usually red ? :D I will look like horrible if i dont put makeup on it :D But anyway I get what you want to say and love the video.
Brilliant!
Violete is so beautiful 😍
Whoever filmed this kept moving the camera around in a horrible way. It was really distracting.
But I literally have no freckles at all on my nose nor on my cheeks:(
I wish I could skip foundation on my nose but its always a little pink and I have sebaceous filaments too :(
booitscaitlin Everyone has sebaceous filaments, it's a natural part of the nose!
Yeah mine are intense tho so I'm pretty self conscious of them :((
booitscaitlin maybe you can try only covering the tip of your nose where you have filaments and leave your nosebridge bare👃
I only put it on the lower half of my face if I have a breakout because I love my freckles too much
What does she do?
Merci!x
Violete you re SO CHIC👍👍👍
Rather redundant showing a flawless, minimal skincare routine on already flawless skin, no?
Right? French Lessons: Be Born with Flawless Skin
FS she has perfect skin so very hard to relate.
FS having a routine like this can probably give you flawless skin. I stopped wearing heavy makeup and over treating my acne and the acne subsided
@misha that is a very naive opinion lol
Then look up a video that tells you how to cover up a certain flaw. it's 2017 there are plenty of tips online how to cover up different imperfections. If you can't find a video or anything online then ask a mua at a store. I'm pretty sure walking into a store would be more helpful than looking online anyway.
I love it! I also don`t apply foundation on my nose because I have my freckles and I love them :)
I love french girls they look gorgeous! I hate that US make-up because it`s tooooooo much... too fake overlining of the lips, too fake lashes, too fake eyebrows, too fake contouring and highlight, fake "ducky" lips, fake eye color...
what about if you whole face is covered in freckles...
Camera movement is making me dizzy
Never putting foundation on my nose ever again
Unfortunately my face is a lot paler then the rest of my body. If I use foundation that is the same shade as my face, I honestly look so pale. However if I was to use this foundation technique with my normal foundation that is the colour of my body, and only apply it in sparse places, I would be all blotchy 🙄
C‘est belle
Hmm not sure adding a super sparkly blush is all that natural 🤔
how it should be done... :)
That tiny sponge gave me anxiety
the camera moves too much... it makes me feel sick...
0:29 U know they had to put captions on because it sounds like "a bitch here..."
I have to say... I don't really like the idea of covering my natural face with lots of artificial things. I just wouldn't feel that I am beautiful; I'd just feel like it was someone else's face painted on mine.
😘
I think she’d like glossier.
Ya know, your skin but better?
She didn't wipe anything off with those wipes lol
