    I'd like to know something. How in the hell, do a man or a woman pay for a house and someone comes along and move in without consent and damn near legally owns the house? This country, well this happens everywhere, but in particular, this country needs to get real with the legal system. People are going to jail for months for stealing socks from Family Dollar while the legal system allows a person to take control of an estate that is not theirs. Don't lash out on the squatters. Lash out on the government. They allowed this to happen.

    • @somebodyintheworld5036
      @somebodyintheworld5036 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Because it's not actually that unfair to the landlord. I believe it takes a couple of months in order to evict people from your property as a landlord. The minimum requirement for adverse possession is for the squatter to stay there for 5 years. That means a landlord must have neglected a property for at least 4 years + a few months before realizing they're property was being squatted on. Even then, they could probably evict the squatters before time runs out and adverse possession becomes a real threat.
      If you're a landlord and you own a property. And that property has gone unnoticed, not generating rent, not being checked up on, not being maintained (because if you had been doing regular maintenance the maintenance people would have discovered the occupancy), then yeah that property is effectively abandoned. I don't really see how you can argue otherwise. Keep in mind, the squatter has to live there openly, while the landlord has knowledge of the situation. It cannot be hidden but be "notorious". If as a landlord you know about the issue 2 years in, and neglect to do anything about it for another 3, the property obviously doesn't really matter to you. As the video says, the government would prefer people who live in the property legally own it than a landlord whose been absent for so long. If you were a landlord, would you seriously let a property sit vacant for 5 years with no rental income while knowing theres people living there the entire time? Or even sending a contractor to maintain it and checkup on it once a year? You have to be extremely negligent to let things get this far.

They are trying to abuse rental homes. If a county/state wants to make sure properties are maintained we already have tons of legal methods for this. There are local municipality laws you must follow (grass cut, trash, structure integrity of the home). You can condemn a property. Eviction notices can be issued. Yea unfortunately NONE of these things prevents these squatters in places like California. And dealing with the court system, especially in California, is an absolute joke. Solution? Don't live in that horrible state until they put intelligent politicians in charge, which seems like it's never going to happen.

    • @goodlifepropertymgmt
      @goodlifepropertymgmt 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I hear your frustration, and unfortunately, the legal landscape in states like California can make landlord-tenant disputes incredibly challenging, especially when it comes to squatter situations or navigating the court system. The eviction process can feel like an uphill battle, and the protections for tenants-even when well-intentioned-can sometimes leave landlords feeling powerless or trapped in drawn-out legal processes.
      One of the big issues is the complexity of the system and the layers of regulations that can delay the removal of bad tenants or squatters. Many landlords feel like their hands are tied, and it's no surprise that some choose to avoid renting in states with such stringent rules.
      For those staying in California or similar states, it’s crucial to have airtight leases, perform thorough tenant screenings, and stay up to date on changes to landlord-tenant laws to avoid potential pitfalls. And I get it-none of these things make the court process any easier. Many landlords are advocating for reforms to make the system more balanced, but as you pointed out, meaningful change can feel a long way off.
      In the meantime, many property owners have had to adapt by being even more selective about tenants or investing in areas with more landlord-friendly policies. It’s definitely not a one-size-fits-all solution, but hopefully, with time and continued pressure for change, we’ll see a better balance between protecting tenants' rights and ensuring that landlords aren’t left dealing with situations like squatters for months on end.
      In the end, it’s a tough call whether to stick it out or move investments to more landlord-friendly states, but I totally get why many are choosing to avoid places like California for now.
