This makes me so sad, Keith Emerson and Greg Lake are both gone 😪😭 so glad I got to see ELP And they played this, one of my favs😃 great tribute guys "thank you" for this👍🏼✌🏼️
Rod Morgenstein has been one of my very favorite drummers for nearly 35 years, ever since i was first introduced to the Dixie Dregs. Great to see he's still working those chops!!! Thank you very much my friend...great upload!!!
Did you notice jordan messed up the begginning?? he forgot to transpose an octave down, and he realices mid-playing it, first time i noticed him getting it wrong. This world has gone insane to me.
Acctually it was the wrong patch, so he did not forget to transpose, I have the same keyboard, it happens all the time :P He uses a Boss change pedal I think.
Areed. Drums are sludgy. Especially compared to Carl Palmer. In fact if you're going to take on a piece like this, the drums need to sound beautiful too; its not just about practicing the licks. Shame, cos its a great effort.
I think all the credit should go to the person who wrote this and performed it on a regular basis. With no help from todays modern technology. The gentlemans name; Keith Emerson. No disrespect to Jordan and Rod. Their performance makes me smile and laugh at the same time. Amazing.
Rod has been around for decades. He played drums for Dixie Dregs, Steve Morse, T Lavitz, and others. Even though it doesn't say on his site, I think he was a guest on one of Brand X's albums too. I could be wrong.
Actually I didn't realize this was 2013 wonder if the boys in ELP saw this? Or what they thought if they did? it's not every musician that can cover an ELP tune, great piece of music, "thanks guys" 👍🏼
Gnarolable The whole piece is called Tarkus, from Emerson, Lake & Palmer in 1971. The sections are called: "Eruption" "Stones of Years" "Iconoclast" "Mass" "Manticore" "Battlefield" "Aquatarkus"
That organ sound is perfect for what JR is going for. If he wanted it to be different, he would have made it different. Not all organs are meant to sound like a B3/leslie Faruk. And lets be honest, there is nothing on the market right now that can compete with the overal package that is the Kronos.
Yea, NAMM seems to have a bad habit of messing up the sound on these big events. You should look at the footage for the Tama 40th anniversary show, definitely not well done.
+pjones8404 actually he did. listen the whole album - Rudess did exceptional rearrangement of prog classics, added new parts which weren't on the originals, so even Emerson, Banks and other original authors praised this work.
Yvan Cluet With all of the technology and sampling that JR has at his literal fingertips, I'm surprised that there are guitarists on this. Even though there's an organic essence to the sound that's 'recognizable' to a musician, technology had progressed so much that I'd not be at all surprised to find Jordan imperceptibly emulating great guitar in tone and feel with aplomb.
Cameron Johnson I wouldn’t go that far I love Jordan Rudess however he was heavily influenced by Keith Emerson I will tell you another thing I’m 66 years old I first got the album Emerson Lake and Palmer when I was 16 a lot of my friends were musicians one guy was a sound engineer so I’m not saying I’m an expert I can’t read music I don’t plan instrument but I will tell you after Keith‘s death got around with my friends and they said you talk about the top keyboard players of all time it would Keith Emerson Rick Wakeman Tony Banks John Lord Ray Manzarek I know when you have favorites you like to person but just remember you could put them in the top echelon but be careful it would’ve been more appropriate to say Jordan Rudess And another thing Jorden it’s not a knock on him. But he has these days when he first came around there was much more technology on synthesizers Keith Emerson worked with Robert Moog Personally while he was on the road and Robert considered Keith like another son so why don’t you study your history I guess you were a young man and his nothing wrong with that and also he is wanting to yes rush Are in the rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame yes and ELP when Russia was coming up they looked up to these days they influence them but it’s nice now to see young people are discovering progressive rock and realizing how talented and amazing musicians these guys were take careStay safe with all the stuff that’s going on and I find the best thing for me music food for the soul take care
awaken77 Is that an iPad? I hit the barren description for specifics. Bone dry. I got distracted, listening much more intently than watching, and that part was one of those "Holy BAT shit!" moments which, in the context of the magic Jordan routinely pulls off with apparent ease, means it's absolutely incredible. For me, that's the clear highpoint of this overall typically marvelous performance. I've been out of the proverbial loop. I thought he had another landmark new instrument. He's so good that his proficiency alone could drive industry progress.
JR was innovator of using consumer electronics like iPod and iPad, as musical instrument, with special software indeed. There is a video on youtube , where JR plays "iPad orchestra", arranging the whole composition from sounds generated by software on iPad
Nice to see Rod but that's it . I can only mostly see him 👀 and barely hear him 👂 with headphones 🎧 .. poor balance between Keys and Drums ... canned tracks are up in the mix just fine ..⁉ 🥁 🎶🎵🐱👓
Well, he funked it up, and does a stunningly good job, but Emerson's Hammond solo organ was far jazzier. Also, Palmer was cleaner and you hear every Tom Tom Palmer hit and with no double bass peddle to give those easy yet murky chops.
No bassplayer? sounds like Jordan madnessss!!!! Muaahahahhah!!! I've hard the original so many times this cover throws me offf....He added so many things.
I could honestly listen to these two all day! It's dangerous! I hope they do more 'projects' together!
Dixie Dregs..... Been listening to them almost everyday since 1977.
Rod is so perfectionnist .... He plays like a master.
That's because he IS a master
That's because he is :)
Awesome display for both!...just AMAZING...
Incredible talent....all my respect !
Welcome back my friends, to the show that never ends! We need a RMP II !!!
This makes me feel happy
ThatCheapDrummer right? happiness is free…what a master JR is!
Yeah, great music, I've just bought the cd!!! Thanks for the Vid.
Rudess Morgenstein project was so amazing!!!! And you're a crazy good player yourself Zolhof.
This is just AMAZING!!!!!!!!
my idol...i hope one day my hands the same as jordan ruddes
Sensacional, super inspiração 🎶🎹🎹
Rod is fantastic. I hope you all have checked out Platypus and The Jelly Jam... Rod is great on those records !
Masterpiece !! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
more notes or faster playing does not mean less soul. they are both talented and masterful artists.
I wish the toms had close mics!!! ahhhh
I wish DT would come up with something like thing in their next album.
And they didn't.
Next Album (I said "album") maybe?? 2018
amazing! Like a old times...! E.L.P!
Mind blown.
Amazing, very good cover!
Waoooo, sounds like ELP. Magistrales.
Did you notice jordan messed up the begginning?? he forgot to transpose an octave down, and he realices mid-playing it, first time i noticed him getting it wrong. This world has gone insane to me.
I believe most of people wouldn't recognize that failure.
It's normal those switch pedals fails a lot, depending on the intensity you press it. The important is, he doesn't miss the notes and playing.
Acctually it was the wrong patch, so he did not forget to transpose, I have the same keyboard, it happens all the time :P He uses a Boss change pedal I think.
Technically, he did not mess any notes.
sem palavras né . totalmente fera . espero um dia chegar no patamar desse cara
amazing..... ...
Bravo!!
You forgot to mention his incomparable work with that chart topping band Winger.
Wow!
Jordan Rudess , literally made a good piece of music, great - ELP's tarkus, completely redefined by Jordan
Just...wow...
Claps claps !!!!!!!
BAMF GENIUS!!!
wow!
The only thing I dislike about this video is that I can't hear the toms due to the lack of mics for them but other than that this is awesome!!!
Areed. Drums are sludgy. Especially compared to Carl Palmer. In fact if you're going to take on a piece like this, the drums need to sound beautiful too; its not just about practicing the licks. Shame, cos its a great effort.
Ótimo 😁👏👏
I think all the credit should go to the person who wrote this and performed it on a regular basis. With no help from todays modern technology.
The gentlemans name; Keith Emerson.
No disrespect to Jordan and Rod.
Their performance makes me smile and laugh at the same time. Amazing.
Amazing guitar and vocal samples...!...(!?)
Genius.
Morgenstein is my teacher! An awesome one too!
Rod has been around for decades. He played drums for Dixie Dregs, Steve Morse, T Lavitz, and others. Even though it doesn't say on his site, I think he was a guest on one of Brand X's albums too. I could be wrong.
Steven Wilson on vocals!
wow :)
Tarkus is every video game boss battle's music😀.
Simply amazing!. I just wish Rod's toms were a little more in the mix. Rudess is a master!
Very close to the original. Yet noone can match the unique clear yet complicated ELP style. This is a great piece of muisc
Agreed. This is gimmicky.
ELP sounds like a band from 2045
We finally made a piano that sounds exactly like a guitar
and i was in a meeting with the korg rep when this was happening....... looking back on it i should of just walked in anyway.....
Esse cara não existe!!!! rsrsrs.
Right.
esto es demasiado para simples mortales como nosotros
Baddassrudess
Actually I didn't realize this was 2013 wonder if the boys in ELP saw this? Or what they thought if they did?
it's not every musician that can cover an ELP tune, great piece of music, "thanks guys" 👍🏼
What are the names of these songs they play here??
Gnarolable The whole piece is called Tarkus, from Emerson, Lake & Palmer in 1971. The sections are called:
"Eruption"
"Stones of Years"
"Iconoclast"
"Mass"
"Manticore"
"Battlefield"
"Aquatarkus"
who bangs the drums?
No one? These two just did!
Sounds like DREAM THEATRE. If not, I could see how DT would have followed ELP's music and methods. AFKBK! (Another Fantastic Keyboard By KORG!).
That organ sound is perfect for what JR is going for. If he wanted it to be different, he would have made it different. Not all organs are meant to sound like a B3/leslie Faruk.
And lets be honest, there is nothing on the market right now that can compete with the overal package that is the Kronos.
3:35 pretty sure its guthrie who did the solo
It's Ricky Garcia on guitar
Who is the vocalist?
Steven Wilson??? 3:41 O.O
si (y)
is him?
Azael Lightman
Yes, Rudess did a studio cover of this. The voice that comes in later is Kip Winger.
What this a incredible song? Can't find coincidence in words...
Emerson, Lake & Palmer - "Tarkus" (1971)
Eggcellent! It's a shame you can't hear Rod's toms though.
Yea, NAMM seems to have a bad habit of messing up the sound on these big events. You should look at the footage for the Tama 40th anniversary show, definitely not well done.
JRさいこー!
he might have got asked but just didnt have the time available to join due to other projects, thats always a possibility
10:34 - Rudess kicks Emerson's ass lol:
+pjones8404 actually he did. listen the whole album - Rudess did exceptional rearrangement of prog classics, added new parts which weren't on the originals, so even Emerson, Banks and other original authors praised this work.
+awaken77 JR had the power to update this music to a new era. You need to handle the power and than enhance it.
Rod Morgenstein is a BEAST!
Tarkus .
Awesome playing.
Tom mics are too low in the mix.
The one and only... Steven Wilson.
Rod Morgenstein?
who is singer?
Steven Wilson and Kip Winger respectively.
steve wilson voice?
who's the guitar player ?
Marco Sfogli :)
Giacomo Tarkus Sannino i did my research and there are plenty of guitar players on this song, including the incredible bumblefoot :)
Next time put some mics on the toms!
ELP
Voice totally sounds like Steven Wilson's
It is, they sampled him. Jordan and Steven are bros.
Very nice! I am glad, his voice is great!
+Mario Rodríguez Kip Winger?
And he did'nt get asked to do the Dream Theater audition - WTF was going on.
maybe he did but turned it down, maybe he had/has his own things going on and was/is happy with it.
*Harvey Keitel on drums...
maybe just something if by profile
Keith Emerson was just about as brilliant as they come, but people, let's just admit it: Jordan Rudess is the greatest rock keyboardist of all time.
Not the greatest, maybe the fastest. Get some headphones and dive into Close to the Edge my man
You're forgetting the inimitable Richard Christopher Wakeman!
16:17 iPad is main Jordan's instrument lol:
awaken77 Is that an iPad? I hit the barren description for specifics. Bone dry. ARE YOU SERIOSUSUSUSUSUSUSSUSUSUSUSUS?
I hope that Rudess already transferred to the new Kurzweil! Organ mode in
Kronos is a disaster: (!
Nice to see Rod but that's it . I can only mostly see him 👀 and barely hear him 👂 with headphones 🎧
.. poor balance between Keys and Drums ... canned tracks are up in the mix just fine ..⁉
🥁 🎶🎵🐱👓
If you dislike this- I dislike you
wow you watch videos of emerson play and then watch this and jordan is just WAYYYY cleaner and more precise technically.
Weird...this reminds me of Dixie Dregs...
I was kinda ironic... Maybe that wasn't very clear?
What the hell is that?????... It ain't Tarkus...
And some say vitalij kuprij is better dan Jordan.... lol!!
I like Vitalij a bit better although Rudess is awesome.
LOL always trying to say who is the strongest among hulk the thing thor or superman.....
Snare sound s, sucks a little here..
What a horrible mix!
too much notes, less "soul". I miss old, good Emerson.
Agreed. And very little Hammond organ jazz swing.
