    Video Transcript:
    High Intensity Discharge lamps are often compared to your everyday incandescent light bulb. But these HID lamps are very different, not only in size but how they produce light.
    In this video we will focus on the center of a High Pressure Sodium lamp. Looking at the actual light source we will see how it produces its high intensity light.
    The Arc Tube is the light producing source. It is called an Arc Tube because electricity jumps or arcs from one side of the tube to the other. Notice there is no filament producing a glowing light. An arc is very similar to a lightning strike, only much lower in terms of power and much longer in time duration.
    Electrodes are on each end of the arc tube. The electrodes provide a starting point and ending point. The lamp current flows between the electrodes.
    By adding low pressure fill gas and materials like mercury and sodium allows the arc to become much brighter.
    When using a 1000 watt HPS lamp the power is turned on. an external ballast provides a 4,000 volt starting pulse which begins to break down the fill gas starting a flow of electrons. The arc produces a faint glow of light and heat.
    Heat from the arc vaporizes the liquid mercury into a gas and the mercury enters the arc stream. The arc constricts and gets brighter generating more heat.
    Heat from the mercury arc vaporizes the sodium into a gas allowing it to enter into the arc stream as well. Once this has happened the arc stream has reached its optimal operating temperature producing a quality light spectrum for indoor plant growth.
    HID lamps contain similar components. What makes EYE HORTILUX lamps unique is our exclusive chemistry. This chemistry produces the light spectrum specifically designed for plant growth. This results in a high quality high yield product.

    can anyone tell me if runnin it on 120 240 volt witch is better on ur ballast

    • @Eyehortilux
      @Eyehortilux  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      BayHoundz420 It is easier for a ballast to run at 240V vs 120V.

    how ignator does works in HPS lamp
    can we trun light ON lights without ignator by shorting its cable like in tube road starter

      No. That would cause a fire.

      You can, but on low wattage bulb only. this is how Sodium Internal Ignitor retrofit for mercury vapour lamp works

    Yes, they are indeed the best in the industry, but at $130 a pop? hmm

    they forgot to tell you about the phosphor coating to turn the uv light into visible spectrum light

    • @Eyehortilux
      @Eyehortilux  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Tony Boroni HPS lamps do not have a phosphor coating. That refers mainly to fluorescent lighting.

      +EYE HORTILUX aren't the arc tubes in an HPS lamp also made of sapphire primary because of how much heat the arc inside the tube produces?

      then why are they converting uv light into visible light? is that not what sets the PowerVeg apart? that seems redundant..

    Thank you for explaining this to people. Too bad your company buys them from China next to nothing . All you guys have done is slap a logo on .

      I have ran the HPS department for 15 years. I can assure you we do not do that. Would you like to come in for a plant tour? I would be happy to give you one!!

      Hortilux is one of the few that DOESNT do this, that's why they are expensive, and damn near the best.

      I'm currently flowering 2 cannabis plants (Early Glue strain) with HPS. Buds are getting fat and it's only 2 weeks in.
