      Thanks, Ben. It was a follow-on to a conversation about fragrance terminology with Michel Gutsatz from Le Jardin Retrouve that prompted it. I've been watching your videos to get some tips on style. I've been threatened by Ellie with a haircut and smartening myself up! 😃

      @@FragRantReviews Thank you I am debating on what to do on my channel, I love the conversations about fragrances, but I find the discussions about gentleman's style very interesting too so I have been in between. Those bottles of Valentino Uomo are beautiful. I will be watching this video again.

    Great video but I thought an EDP was more concentrated than an EDT I think you mixed up EDT and EDP

    So what's the difference between flankers and clones?

    • @FragRantReviews
      @FragRantReviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question! 😀I think it all depends on your outlook. I suppose from one point of view a flanker is an opportunity for a fragrance or design house to squeeze some extra money from their customers and the development and investment in their brand. A clone is where someone else tries to make some money from the customers of a fragrance or design house without the development and investment in the brand.
      On the other hand, just about every fragrance and design house dabble with copying the product and ideas of the opposition, just to keep their foot in a rapidly moving and expensive market place.
      For me, a flanker is adding a twist to an original or I should say a 'good flanker' is adding something to the original line to create something new and different. Where a clone is just a facsimile of an original idea...it adds nothing new.

      Hi Benjamin, great to see you here, I enjoy your channel immensely! Ellie and I are both subscribers. One of the things I enjoy about the fragrance community is its diversity. One of the things I find most interesting about the fragrance community is the difference between the fragrances popular in the community, what people say they are buying and wearing and the fragrances Ellie's customers are actually buying.

    Another great video. In my opinion, the ONLY really good flanker I've smelled (and now own) is D&G Light Blue 'Swimming in Lipari'.

    • @FragRantReviews
      @FragRantReviews  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've not got my nose on the Lipari. I did add the Light Blue Intense to the collection this year which was my absolute favourite summer fragrance. If I'm honest I keep sneaking the occasional wear out of it now! 😃

    Totally agree with you, sometimes it is funny that they run out of the name, I mean ....STRONGER WITH YOU INTENSELY, really ARMANI?...or DOLCE & GABBANA THE ONLY ONE 2, what is it a movie sequel? So that is my Frag Rant. Sorry for the CAPSLOCK letter, I am not shouting just expressing my thoughts😁😁😁

    • @FragRantReviews
      @FragRantReviews  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Angela, I have a pet theory that the naming of a fragrance is done at the pub AND after consuming several bottles of 'vino collapso'. The more I imagine someone slurring their way through a name like 'The Only One 2' the more I think I might be right. I was talking to Mo the perfumer at Jamal fragrances and he just uses the last three numbers of his laboratory batch code for each fragrance. It might be because I'm kicking on a bit, but that makes more sense to me. Don't get me started on the names that Killian comes up with! 😂😂😂

  • @stevenharris5065

    totally great to have the benefit of all that research as some of us do not get a chance to do it for ourselves as we are to busy watching others giving us that results of all there own research. haha.

      Hi Steven, that's exactly the same philosophy I used with my archaeology students! Someone has to interpret all the stuff they dig up and all that interpreting gave me a severe allergy to shovels! 👍

    I know what you mean , i love chanel no5 , but lately they've brought out quite a few no5s , & have just brought out 2 new ones & one in a red bottle at £130 , gulp. Lori

    • @FragRantReviews
      @FragRantReviews  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Now Lori, as you well know, once you've come face to face with the bill for a part for a boat...that bottle of red Chanel No 5 is as cheap as chips. God forbid the fragrance companies learn a trick from the boat yards and start charging treble for anything with the word 'marine' in it! All those 'marine' aquatic scents in La Thems!

    Really great video, very informative. Big pet hate of mine with flankers is they often reformulate/water down the original. Plenty of examples of this but the most recent that upset me was Dior Sauvage. It was heavily watered down following the release of the EDP. On a more positive note, 1 million privé and lucky are very nice flankers of the 1 million line, worth a try if you haven't already. Cheers

    • @FragRantReviews
      @FragRantReviews  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know where you are coming from with the Dior Sauvage. I've not smelled a new EDT, I've had mine for a couple of years. What did you make of the Sauvage EDP? I thought it a bit tame, there's better silage and longevity from my EDT than the EDP, although the EDT seems harsh compared to the EDP?
      I've been meaning to get my nose on the Million Privé and the Lucky every time I go to pick Ellie up from the store. However, at this time of year, I have to play 'hunt the 1 Million' as she sells it so fast! 😃

    • @treefiddy2579
      @treefiddy2579 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree the EDP is very tame and nothing special, perhaps it was intended for people who found the EDT to loud. Honestly though, they've killed the EDT so if you plan on buying another bottle you may want to get an older bottle online 👍The sillage and longevity of the original EDT was incredible, embarrassed the EDP.
      Definitely recommend lucky and privé. The latter is much more mature and gourmand where as lucky is a bit more fun, playful and fresh with a gourmand undertone of hazelnut. Both are great fragrances and really take their own twist on the 1 million DNA. Cheers

      I am making more videos Chris, a slight technical hitch...I dropped my camera...has now been fixed and I'm editing as I type. I initially thought I'd been lucky with no damage done and shot more video but when I came to edit the files were distorted. So...new camera and I started shooting over again. The next will be posted tomorrow fingers crossed! :D

    I don’t know about anyone else but I am sick of the flankers. Sick of the clones. Sick of the edp , parfum, intense extreme ultra edp intense and all the rest. And to top it off, they all have mediocre performance. These perfumers better get their heads out of their buttholes and start creating something great and unique again with some great performance. I am surprised they are still in business
