The black ones ARE the best - and with those rear lights!

Takes me back: I have owned a Vauxhall 14-6, L series Wyvern, E series Wyvern, E series Velox, F model Victor and a PA Cresta. In later life I was sales manager of a Vauxhall dealer. Happy days indeed.

Beautiful. Back in around 1960 dad bought one of these - second hand. He loved to tinker with old car engines, but I don't suppose the Velox was very old when he bought it. The colour of ours was called Silver Straw which was a very pale green metallic. I was around 9 years old at the time, and I loved that car. Still do.

Silver Straw was a popular colour for these cars. That would make your fathers car a 1956 model as Vauxhall only ran that colour for that year.

Brave man changing gears like that, I always used palm away for 2-3 plane to avoid possibility of wrong-slotting. The change was actually very good, certainly in the later Victor, and you only needed finger tips to navigate across the gate.

Back in those days you were a DRIVER,unlike today's "accessories",having the car drive you around, almost by itself.

I thought Veloxs were 6 cylinder straight. I see this example still has the removable guards over rear wheels. Many examples don't have these.

@@robharris5467 '55, '56 and '57 Velox and Cresta's had the rear spats. Earlier cars and all Wyverns didn't have these.

Didn’t have the ugly orange turn lights had little arms that popped out to signal your direction

By '56 the turn arms were well gone.
