    Great videos Chris, thank you. One thing I realized doing this pattern is that the notes seem to follow the C(b)AGE(f)D spelling pattern on the strings. That helps this old guy to remember what string the next (or previous) octave can be found on

    Wow, I was a little confused at minute mark 4:30 where you got that last G when you ran out of G notes, until I realized you were creating that highest G note with a bend! Super cool concept.... create a note where it doesn't exist by using a bend to get it! Well I guess it technically does exist by bending to it, but not as an actual fretted note. I had never thought of this before, so thanks for this cool little concept!

    • @curiousguitarist
      @curiousguitarist  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ok so this is a super cool thing to realize.
      What I wanted to show there is that the guitar is the limit...not the player's brain, right?
      "IF the guitar had more frets, I KNOW there would be a G up here"
      ...rather than...
      "IF I knew where a G note was, I could probably play it..."
      Really love the fact you picked that up nateross14!!

The comment was initially what popped into my mind, as I sometimes have a tendency to comment before having the full picture, because I forget things easily and its a way to get my thoughts down right away. I deleted the comment because I felt like I should go back and watch the whole video in entirety, to make sure I have all the pieces and not missing something, before commenting. Finally- something I have learned before :P
    I do get three things out of this-
    1) i need to practice finding them (octives)
    2) I really need to pay attention to and sort out my method of transitioning (fingering/finger movement)
    3) I need to work on my transitioning (musical flow)
    Thanks, Chris!

    4) I need to work on my guitar collection! haha way cooler guitars and way more, i'm sure

    • @curiousguitarist
      @curiousguitarist  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure you can ever have too many guitars...but I guess that is true at SOME point. I know I'm not quite there yet!
      1) Use the circle of fifths!!!
      2) Use the fingering I'm using in the video, it's the most efficient.
      3) That comes with time and the use of the old metronome!!
      Good luck!

      @@curiousguitarist I had to touch base to thank you for your help, I haven't had much time in the last few days and not sure I have a grasp on what you were pointing to but I learned, there is a connection in where these note land in relation to each other all up the neck, I think the pattern uses every note on the fret board, the pattern IS the circle of 5ths, I had never used or seen one- mind blown several times and every time I look I see more, I could go on, Second re: recommend look @ Troy Grady - I learned a lot, for one pick position and him using a camera had me watch my right hand, I can't play at any speed becase up-down strokes and now correcting bad habits but now im aware and correcting myself. In closing Ive got to thank you for the direction you have given me, you are probably one of if not the best teacher ive seen on the net, if I had an internet voice I would shout it out you deserve a following. Ive progressed more musically in a few of your videos and chat than in 3 months of watching dozens of others
      you asked what people want to see, theory, songs? For me its theory but there is a lot out there but NO ONE explains it , so it goes over 99% of people watching and it takes time and dedication to learn theory, I hope you can crack that code because the basics building blocks are important, the other option is to do songs and lead riffs, thats how I found Marty and now I watch his intro and then figure it out buy ear or watching for a challenge

    Morning Chris,
    I got sent back here by the video you posted today sir. I have a quick question. When playing pentatonic in this manner to a blues lick for example, is it useful in tone targeting as well? Meaning key of Am, second chord Dm. Would/could you simply restart the scale from the D note root within the original shape? Not sure I’m articulating this effectively lol

    • @curiousguitarist

      @@curiousguitarist …. What is the address to your platform ‘The Studio’ ? I could not find it by searching? Or is this in your patreon membership? I have been looking at the memberships but haven’t decided. I prefer to purchase courses as I work full time and can’t seem to get on a regular guitar schedule. I seem to be an all or nothing type! 😬
      Which level in your patron packages gives step by step instruction? Does this platform have an order to learning? I find I am all over the place with TH-cam! Although I did finish watching your ‘watch these first’ TH-cam videos. Thank you for those, I greatly appreciate your teaching. I am probably at a beginner/ intermediate level with general chords and enjoy some finger picking. I have decided I want to learn how to play the fretboard and create some cool sounds. Thanks again for all that you do! Although I have just recently come across your work I hear myself saying often while watching your videos , ‘Oh, well that made it easy’! 😁

    Chris, I'm a bit confused, likely I'm missing something obvious...if we start at C then wouldn't the next note we play in the Circle of Fifths be G (not F)?

    Do you have any video for learning music knowledge for acoustic guitar playing

    • @curiousguitarist
      @curiousguitarist  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      All guitar knowledge is the same for any standard tuned guitar.
      Usually it’s more technique differences between electric and acoustic.

    Going thru Gs I looked at where the Cs were typical chord change, then I looked at Es and where the As were ect, never looked at it that way but obvious when playing barre chords, once you add a pentatonic scale ..... Ive never seen it like this or considered you can play your chord changes because you are already there

    Struggling to keep up with this, is knowing the theory in advance a requirement?

    • @curiousguitarist
      @curiousguitarist  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Knowing the fretboard helps, but this drill will actually get you that knowledge. The struggle is indicative of a gap you probably want to close.
      This is going to help change the way you look at the fretboard.
      I redid this video recently, this one might be a bit easier to follow, and it definitely looks and sounds better!! Good luck!!

    What about the G on the high E third fret?

    • @curiousguitarist
      @curiousguitarist  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup! I hit that note one octave up during the example at 0:03
      Ultimately you can do this any way you like, this pattern specifically keeps you moving along the neck linearly better than having to stop at the high e string at the start of the pattern.
      Thanks for the comment!
