I have the same firebox nano/heavy cover combo it’s great. I don’t like fiddling with windscreens when it’s really windy. What I do that works quite well in wind is to not use the nano sticks and put the trangia down at the base of the stove. Then turn the legs of the nano stove so they face outward and place the canteen cup directly on the top of the nano walls (instead of the pot supports). It works really well.

    • @camojoe83
      @camojoe83 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I spotted that as a possibility. Those lil sticks that hold the trangia look like they'd vanish the first time you looked away from them at camp.

Got a WW2 Canteen my brother brought me in the mid 60s from his hitch in Korea.
    Used it for years!
And then one day I looked in it with a light and saw the lead soldernon the interior.
    Oops..
Ordered a couple of Nalgene canteens from Canteenshop.
Your right, there is just something about drinking from one.
Good luck with the new shop!

Your canteen looks sweet, but I have switched to a Nalgene Triton canteen. 4oz and holds 32oz. Easy to clean and I can still use canteen stove set up. I wouldn't pour boiling water into it though.

My kit has a Maxi Titanium Canteen ( it replaced my smaller Keith Titanium canteen ). Inside the Maxi Canteen is a Titanium Gen 2 Nano Firebox and X stand. A Evernew Titanium alcohol burner with a Exotac ferro rod and a Go Bites Duo utensil. All of it Making a nice compact package inside the canteen cup.
The Canteen Cup is in the center of a Mountain Smith Drift Lumber pack. With it is a dehydrated meal and a small bottle of alcohol for the stove. Included is a GSI Escape 17 fl oz cup plus a small bag of incidentals. The two end pockets of the Drift Lumber each hold a single 24 oz water bottle. The pack rides in the center of my lower back and is the most comfortable item I have found.

Another option for the Nano is the Trangia gas burner. It fits just like the Trangia Alcohol Stove, but the gas pipe goes through the wood feeder hole. I used it on two week walk across England and it worked perfectly, every time. My day hike set up is Nano Stainless Steel version, a 40 Oz Kleenexes Kanteen and Stainless Steel cup and Trangia Alcohol Stove. I use a NATO Pattern 90 first aid kit pouch and belt to carry them, £10 off E-Bay. I have tried those fold up Titanium spoons, but for anything other than stirring your brew they are too fragile, so the long handled version is best, I find. Thank you for your video.

That is a good canteen I have two of them. Only I used the cup stove with it. Even when I use a spirit stove it's not hard to elevate a spirit stove. Three little wire tent Stakes stuck in the ground with a stove on top of it makes it where you Elevate the spirit stove as high as you want. And it practically takes up no room whatsoever because it's attached to my cup. Don't get me wrong I have twig stove I just don't carry them around all the time

It is now. Back when I got my canteens they were more expensive you couldn't find the titanium ones with the Largemouth. Now Dave has been they are easily available. But they are heavy. Another advantage of titanium is that it naturally kills bacteria. Which means your water is not going to go bad setting in it. Don't get me wrong it's not going to purify drinking water you would have to leave it sitting in it for days to do that

I also have this canteen carrier from Helikon for the keith. The idea is great, it has quite a lot of space for the small cooking utensils, if you just want to drink your coffee. But if you have to carrie the food seperat for a day trip, or must be supplemented by an extra pouch, it makes it uncomfortable to wear. The main compartment is also a little too narrow cut for the keith canteen, difficult to put it out . The mother canteen carrier seems to fit better, this is unfortunately difficult to get in Europe.

For a day hike, I prefer a water bottle (cold drinks) or an insulated flask (hot drinks). No need for a stove.
For hiking over multiple days and nights, a stove is important for cooking, as well as for hot drinks. Then I look at the weight of any stove I intend to carry with me, as well as the terrain for fuel availability.

I still use a ww2 canteen set. The cup is two put together. Yes. You will taste the metal at first. But after a fill or two it's gone. Oh I do boil in it after the pebbles Shake. So that being said. The mess kit with the canteen kit is the ultimate cook kit. Yes it wait is more. But your not going to dent it. The pouch for the ww2 canteen kit was the ultimate cooler. Just get it wet and you have cold water. I have yet to see a good modern pouch. None are made right. Not one. Plenty of room and pockets but no felted wool. The mess kit is what I would use to store my extras. That too had a pouch as well. Want to make money. Make the pouch for both that are for mollie. As far as the canteen pouch? Make it with no drain hole and insulation of wool and felt with as many pockets as you choose. Same for the mess kit. Might be able to store a steak in it then. Hmm. Think on that and you will make the perfect pouches for any style canteen. Mabey put a strap on them that can be removed. Cold water and good way to transport perishable food plus cook it as well. The evaporation of condensation is why the pouch of ww2 was made the way it was. It's about cold water.

How can anyone justify $158 for a $10 canteen an cup. I don't see why titanium costs so much. You can get stainless for a fraction of cost. What benefits do you get saving a ounce or two but spending at least $100 more.
Im not trying to be a troll i just don't get this crazy cost for titanium when other stuff will work just as good for a fraction of cost. Mainly because titanium should not be as expensive as it is but marketing in the last few years drove prices up.
I my self like to by quality but I don't like to waste money this seems like a waste. I don't want to be rude,so please don't take it that way. Sometimes my wording comes off as abrasive im not trying to be really just don't get the make up on a type of kit I used in boyscouts years ago. I know how useful im a first gulfwar vet we used canteen an cup back then. Those cups where Vietnam issued we still used so not like they didn't hold up. An we abused them all the time. See what im getting at

If you had one, you would understand. I used to replace things like this every year or two, but I've had mine for seven years and it goes everywhere with me. It is more durable, I like the heat conduction and it cools down very quickly which is also nice. Cry once- have it forever

@@thunderingbear777 nope because I would never spend that kind of money on something take a cheap product will do the exact same thing. But I'm old school I'm not one of those guys worring about pounds. I carry what makes me comfortable.
That buy once cry once is a stupid analogy. On the grounds stuff gets lost damaged and that's a crazy amount to replace.

wow that price tag is too high to be an ultimate anything. a $300 canteen kit???????? good lord have mercy I have crawled the woods for the better part of my life and never spent that much on a cookset and this cook set does not even have a water filter of any kind with it????????? the best point is more money than logic i think.
