Kaisi Aarti - A live recording from a several years ago with just piano and voice. I've added my reflections to the video. The traditional translation is below -

ਰਾਗੁ ਧਨਾਸਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥

Rāg ḏẖanāsrī mėhlā 1.

ਗਗਨ ਮੈ ਥਾਲੁ ਰਵਿ ਚੰਦੁ ਦੀਪਕ ਬਨੇ ਤਾਰਿਕਾ ਮੰਡਲ ਜਨਕ ਮੋਤੀ ॥
गगन मै थाल रव चंद दीपक बने तारिका मंडल जनक मोती ॥
Gagan mai thāl rav cẖanḏ ḏīpak bane ṯārikā mandal janak moṯī.
Upon that cosmic plate of the sky, the sun and the moon are the lamps. The stars and their orbs are the studded pearls.
ਧੂਪੁ ਮਲਆਨਲੋ ਪਵਣੁ ਚਵਰੋ ਕਰੇ ਸਗਲ ਬਨਰਾਇ ਫੂਲੰਤ ਜੋਤੀ ॥੧॥
धूप मलआनलो पवण चवरो करे सगल बनराइ फूलंत जोती ॥१॥
Ḏẖūp mal▫ānlo pavaṇ cẖavro kare sagal banrā▫e fūlanṯ joṯī. ||1||
The fragrance of sandalwood in the air is the temple incense, and the wind is the fan. All the plants of the world are the altar flowers in offering to You, O Luminous Lord. ||1||

कैसी आरती होइ ॥
Kaisī ārṯī ho▫e.
What a beautiful Aartee, lamp-lit worship service this is!
ਭਵ ਖੰਡਨਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਆਰਤੀ ॥
भव खंडना तेरी आरती ॥
Bẖav kẖandnā ṯerī ārṯī.
O Destroyer of Fear, this is Your Ceremony of Light.
ਅਨਹਤਾ ਸਬਦ ਵਾਜੰਤ ਭੇਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
अनहता सबद वाजंत भेरी ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Anhaṯā sabaḏ vājanṯ bẖerī. ||1|| rahā▫o.
The Unstruck Sound-current of the Shabad is the vibration of the temple drums. ||1||Pause||
ਸਹਸ ਤਵ ਨੈਨ ਨਨ ਨੈਨ ਹਹਿ ਤੋਹਿ ਕਉ ਸਹਸ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਨਨਾ ਏਕ ਤੋੁਹੀ ॥
सहस तव नैन नन नैन हह तोह कउ सहस मूरत नना एक तोही ॥
Sahas ṯav nain nan nain hėh ṯohi ka▫o sahas mūraṯ nanā ek ṯohī.
You have thousands of eyes, and yet You have no eyes. You have thousands of forms, and yet You do not have even one.
ਸਹਸ ਪਦ ਬਿਮਲ ਨਨ ਏਕ ਪਦ ਗੰਧ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਹਸ ਤਵ ਗੰਧ ਇਵ ਚਲਤ ਮੋਹੀ ॥੨॥
सहस पद बिमल नन एक पद गंध बिन सहस तव गंध इव चलत मोही ॥२॥
Sahas paḏ bimal nan ek paḏ ganḏẖ bin sahas ṯav ganḏẖ iv cẖalaṯ mohī. ||2||
You have thousands of Lotus Feet, and yet You do not have even one foot. You have no nose, but you have thousands of noses. This Play of Yours entrances me. ||2||
ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਹੈ ਸੋਇ ॥
सभ महि जोति जोति है सोइ ॥
Sabẖ mėh joṯ joṯ hai so▫e.
Amongst all is the Light-You are that Light.
ਤਿਸ ਦੈ ਚਾਨਣਿ ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
तिस दै चानण सभ महि चानण होइ ॥
Ŧis ḏai cẖānaṇ sabẖ mėh cẖānaṇ ho▫e.
By this Illumination, that Light is radiant within all.
ਗੁਰ ਸਾਖੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
गुर साखी जोत परगट होइ ॥
Gur sākẖī joṯ pargat ho▫e.
Through the Guru's Teachings, the Light shines forth.
ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੁ ਆਰਤੀ ਹੋਇ ॥੩॥
जो तिस भावै सु आरती होइ ॥३॥
Jo ṯis bẖāvai so ārṯī ho▫e. ||3||
That which is pleasing to Him is the lamp-lit worship service. ||3||
ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣ ਕਵਲ ਮਕਰੰਦ ਲੋਭਿਤ ਮਨੋ ਅਨਦਿਨੋੁ ਮੋਹਿ ਆਹੀ ਪਿਆਸਾ ॥
हरि चरण कवल मकरंद लोभित मनो अनदिनो मोहि आही पिआसा ॥
Har cẖaraṇ kaval makranḏ lobẖiṯ mano anḏino mohi āhī pi▫āsā.
My mind is enticed by the honey-sweet Lotus Feet of the Lord. Day and night, I thirst for them.
ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਜਲੁ ਦੇਹਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਰਿੰਗ ਕਉ ਹੋਇ ਜਾ ਤੇ ਤੇਰੈ ਨਾਇ ਵਾਸਾ ॥੪॥੩॥
क्रिपा जलु देह नानक सारंग कउ होइ जा ते तेरै नाइ वासा ॥४॥३॥
Kirpā jal ḏėh Nānak sāring ka▫o ho▫e jā ṯe ṯerai nā▫e vāsā. ||4||3||
Bestow the Water of Your Mercy upon Nanak, the thirsty song-bird, so that he may come to dwell in Your Name. ||4||3|| - เพลง

Once thespian Balraj Sahni (who used to teach at Santiniketan then) asked the Nobel Laureate Rabindra Nath Tagore, "You have written the national anthem for India. Can you write an international anthem for the whole world?" Tagore replied, "It has already been written. Not just an international anthem, but an anthem for the entire universe. It is the aarti written by Guru Nanak in the 16th century." Tagore was referring to the Sikh Aarti (ceremony of light). Gurudev Tagore was so enamoured of this aarti that he personally translated it into Bengali. Here is the story behind it :
When Guru Nanak traveled to Puri at the Jagannath temple, the temple priests invited Guru Nanak to join them to join in the Aarti of the Lord. Guru Nanak agreed and went and sat inside the temple. The priests stood in front of the idol gods and started to wave platters with lights, incense and offerings placed on it. All the devotees who had gathered stood up and gazed at the Lord with great devotion. Guru Nanak filled with great pleasure, was transfixed and remained seated. So overwhelmed was he, that tears rolled down his eyes
At the end of the aarti, the priests complained to Guru Nanak, "You said you would join us to join us in the Aarti of God, but you remain seated on the floor with your eyes closed!" Guru Nanak then replied with this Shabad, saying “Dear brothers! Does our Jagannath exist only here and in this wooden image? Is he not dazzling in the aura of his own greatness, inside all creation? Cannot his Mahima be felt and experienced without the accompanying rituals?"
Very less peoole know these things. Kudos to you sir that you know this.
Very true Sir, Guru Nanak shunned all the rituals to pray. He said all these are rituals are for us not for the God, HE needs just our unwavering commitment and Love, nothing more or less.

I love this Aarti and when you say I believe Guru Nanak used to sing it this way, I get goosebumps. I play this almost every day, when I am happy, when I am sad, when I go for a drive with my hubby and we stop to watch the stars or the sunset. It is a beautiful reminder and every time I am forgetting it, I play it to remind me. Yesterday I did the Karvachauth fast and I was going to play this Aarti before I broke my fast. For some reason the internet wasn’t cooperating and I couldn’t play it. I was too hungry to wait to eat but this morning when I got into my car and turned it on, the Aarti started playing. Perhaps my hubby had put it on so I would hear it first thing in the morning. Perhaps it was sheer magic but I it made me bow down to existence like I have never done before. I just wanted to share with you the difference your singing makes. It brightens so many moments in my life so thank you once again🙏

हरे कृष्ण हरे राम भज् गोविन्दम् भज् गोविन्दम् गोविंदम् भज् 🙏
" हरि हरनाकस हरे परान ॥ अजैमल कीओ बैकुंठहि थान ॥ सूआ पड़ावत गनिका तरी ॥ सो हरि नैनहु की पूतरी ॥२॥
अर्थ: प्रभु ने हरणाक्षस (दैत्य) को मारा, अजामल पापी को बैकुंठ में जगह दी। उस हरि का नाम तोते को पढ़ाते हुए वेश्या भी विकारों से हट गई; वही प्रभु मेरी आँखों की पुतली है।2।
हरि हरि करत पूतना तरी ॥ बाल घातनी कपटहि भरी ॥ सिमरन द्रोपद सुत उधरी ॥ 👉🧐गऊतम सती सिला निसतरी ॥३॥
पद्अर्थ: पूतना = उस दाई का नाम था जिसको कंस ने गोकुल में कृष्ण जी को मारने के लिए भेजा था; ये स्तनों पर जहर लगा के गई, पर कृष्ण जी ने स्तन मुँह में ले कर इसके प्राण खींच लिए; आखिर मुक्ति भी दे दी। घातनी = मारने वाली। कपट = धोखा, फरेब। द्रोपद सुत = राजा द्रोपद की बेटी, द्रोपदी। सती = नेक स्त्री, जो अपने पति के श्राप से सिला बन गई थी, 👉🧐श्री राम चंद्र जी ने इसको मुक्त किया था।3।
अर्थ: बच्चों को मरने वाली और कपट से भरी हुई पूतना दाई का भी उद्धार हो गया, जब उसने हरि-नाम स्मरण किया; नाम-जपने की इनायत से ही द्रोपदी (निरादरी से) बची थी, गौतम की नेक स्त्री का पार उतारा हुआ था, जो (गौतम के श्राप से) शिला बन गई थी।3।
केसी कंस मथनु जिनि कीआ ॥ जीअ दानु काली कउ दीआ ॥ प्रणवै नामा ऐसो हरी ॥ जासु जपत भै अपदा टरी ॥४॥१॥५॥
अर्थ: उसी प्रभु ने केसी व कंस का नाश किया था, और कालीया नाग की जान बख्श दी थी। नामदेव विनती करता है - प्रभु ऐसा (कृपालु बख्शिंद) है कि उसका नाम स्मरण करने से सब डर और मुसीबतें टल जाती हैं।4।1
भाव: प्रभु का स्मरण सभी धर्मों से श्रेष्ठ धर्म है। नाम-जपने की इनायत से सब मुसीबतें टल जाती हैं, बड़े-बड़े विकारी भी विकारों से हट जाते हैं।....
