Carapaz's bike is a pure masterpiece
UAE really brought in Marc Soler and asked him to teach them every trick in the Movistar dysfunction book for this race. Hopefully got all these issues out the way for the Giro as it is a really high level team that doesn't need to be defined by just Pog.
Poor Almeida in Quickstep was masnada and evenepoel, now it was UAE give the kid a break, he deserves a oportunity
Why UAE would ever want to sign "I ride for my own damn self"-Soler is beyond me. No way he was done today, he simply couldnt be bothered to ride for the team anymore. You have to be a top10 rider to be able to pull of behaviour like that.
@@Rahbekkk that’s harsh , he paced the whole day for Almeida once Carapaz and Higuita got away.
lmao yes.. Soler is such a menace
@@sean7098 well but how could it be that ancient old Rui Costa holds out longer then Soler, after Soler showed a few attakcs and signs of form in the earlier stages? I absolutely agree that Soler is a bad signing, and his unwillingness to cooperate will show the younger guys like Ayuso in the team that you can get away with selfishness at UAE.
I said it after the last Paris-Nice stage, I'll say it again now: We want those kinds of middle-mountain stages in the last week of the Tour de France! Put the predictable and controllable TTs and high-altitude mountain top finishes in the first two weeks, and then middle mountain up and down all the way to Paris for maximum unpredictability and the actual chance to gain back time on riders that are intrinsically stronger than you. Yes the teams are better and (mostly) more organized at the Tour than at Paris-Nice or Catalunya but at least the organizers should try and shake up the formula
That's a good proposal
I would also like that but the the thing is though: the Tour is ridden way differently. Everyone is on their A-game and the stakes are the highest. A scenario like today would be less likely to happen because several teams not represented would chase a lot harder than what happened today.
I would also like the ITT to be in Paris on the 21st stage. Think that would be extremely exciting
I agree
Wild race and I love seeing some of the less-common scenarios in the cycling playbook come together on a stage like this. Only in road cycling do you get this combination of a varied course and weather, riders of different specialties factoring into tactics, differing goals and finish lines for different riders... it's a great cocktail when it works out like this.
Holy wow! What a ride by Higuita and Carapaz. Love it 👏👏
Did the rest of the peloton not take Carapaz seriously? Grand tour winner? Olympic RR champion? -- Tremendous raid by Higuita and Carapaz.
This Volta has easily been the most entertaining race of the season. Lovely to see a race not dominated by the usual suspects and a joy to tune into. Today's stage was just one for the ages. Epic.
130km break is about as long as most domestic road races 😂🤯
what a recap, absolutely love to see it LR, what a stage!
Higuita was my favourite for this race and I think he will be the champion, but I wanted him to win a stage. Anyway Richard is an amazing rider and all the Latinamericans are happy seeing him win this one. Well done Sergio and Richard, this race is ours!!
150k Subscribers. Kicking butt and taking names! Congratulations. May this only be the start.
my gut reaction was, yup, major fail by UAE, BEX and Arkea. But should give full credit to Higuita and Carapaz, that was extraordinary achievement.
The real MVP for me is Plapp with the thermonuclear pull up the first climb that allowed the major fail by the peloton.
But Carapaz and Higuita were the perfect duo till the end.
If you sign for UAE and you aren't a member of Pogacar's immediate family and you expect help you are in for a big surprise
Didnt catch this at all, but wow! Fantastic racing! Higuita and carapaz, much respect to them! Its fantastic when a raid like this pays off!
Patrick and Benj... remember you’re Bora pre season team presentation and thoughts about Vlasov and Higuita... 🙃. Both riders are good signings from Denk and giving Bora the 2nd 1 week race win, as it looks. Amazing ride today. Hopefully Benji and you will do a post season recap about the teams.... keep up the good work lads.
Hindley too. He will be a great asset in the mountains.
i was glued to the screen as soon as i tuned in and saw this duo leading by 3:30
I watched a 16 year old Greg LeMond launch off the front on an early lap around Laguna Seca Road Racing course in CA and ride alone off the front in the 128 mile road race as the 18-34 Cat 1 adult men racers tried to catch up. Each time the pack got within 1/4 mile Greg would go into his classic rhythm and ride away increasing the lead. We also watched him finish 2 1/2 laps ahead of 2nd place in an 80 mile Criterium race at Pacific Grove that season. It was apparent back then he was a phenomenal bike racer...
UAE without Pog is the new Movistar
When I tuned in this morning, I was like "How in the hell did THIS happen?!?!?" Unreal.
LR my favourite cycling channel! Another masterful recap. Thanks for the quality uploads!
Excellent recap LR as always!! Thanks for that! 👍
Chaotic medium mountain stages > pure mountain stages. 👀
I don't really 'follow' cycling, just a casual. But your videos certainly make sense of everything. Thankyou.
Loved the "Herminator" joke, greetings from Austria! 🙂
The Oscar goes to Ayuso. That radio worked just fine
In bike racing commentary there is only Lantern Rouge.
Arkea should have contributed to the chase more. Soler did not look like a guy who had emptied the tank. But credit to carapaz and higuita. Insane stage and insane performance
Incredible by carapaz and higuita
Brilliant analysis. LR, you’re the best.
Crazy to think we're not in April yet and already have had so much incredible racing. Much respect to all riders that give their all and make the races so entertaining.
Carapaz and Higuita: "We are about to end this man's whole caralho"
The unlumed his bota
Chapeau chaps! Fully deserved.
The Little Monster Higuita is one of the fastestest decenders from the current pros.
If UAE could get there internal rivalry sorted that could actually hijack the montjuic circle and get that 52 seconds back , but some how maybe Ineos will do a job on poor Higuita
Jaguar de Tulcan and Monster Higuita top 🦵🦵
Absolutely nobody:
LR: EL JAGUAR DE TULCAN
*screaming at the top of his fucking lungs*
I guess nobody believed that these guys would pull it off...but if it's Soler and only Soler for a very long time who's chasing you...
It wasn't only soler...Rui Costa did de most of chasing back until Unoex came helping on the last climb, to little to late.
Kudos to LR. These videos are excellent.
I remember the flak Bora received when signing Higuita/Hindley/Vlasov. Looks ok business to me.
"The Hermannator"😄
UAE need to get their act together if they’re going to defend Tadej Pogacar’s Tour de France title this year.
That unit doesn't need any help.
@@barbaroacosta5335 When Tadej in a race he constantly on the radio telling the team what he wants done, and they do it. It is only when he is not around things fall apart.
Teamwork from Ritchie and H Monster 💯
C. Froome would be proud!
El jaguar de what ? 🤣🤣 Love that king of stuff 🤣🤣
EL JAGUAR DE TULCÁN
@@thelarrys. i love it !! 😍💪
coming from la vuelta, this is insane
Great resume 👌
0:47 Almeida wearing Castelli Gavia jacket with Gobik patch hahaha
Ayuso's got some problems with teamworking. Winner mentality for sure but in cycling you have to earn that leadership spot and work for your teammates when asked
Agree, as a portugueese i dont understand how the team lets this happen!
Epic racing!
Great experience!!
Unreal scenes! Love a good raid!
'Tis the season of the two man escape!
Didnt see that coming respect to Hiqiuta.
Not so much to UAE and Arkea hopeless!
Who would be the most powerful 2 man RAID team in the tour? POG and McNuts or ROG and WOUT??
Close, but I'd say Rog and Wout. In a raid stage (medium mountains I assume?), Wouts engine is imo possibly as good as Pog's, maybe slightly worse uphill, but Rog should be better than McNuts (at least that was the case in PN), and in the end the slower one is going to be defining. There is no use is Pog riding McNuts of his wheel on the climbs and I don't see McNulty climbing faster than Rog or Wout, even if he's constantly in the wheel on the climb.
@@MDP1702 haha true. But 2022 McNuts is on another level! Im excited to see him on long climbs. But on medium mountains he is OP at the moment and needs a nerf 🤣
Hope Higuita wins Overall tomorro!
UAE sponsor needs to call up and fire the director
Uno X stopped pacing because Johannessen didn't eat and drink enough during the day so he felt really bad
'' Ecuador, where it's always raining '' wtf 🤣
It's true. Haha
Kudos to the raiders. As you say the main reason they succeeded was that UAE are dysfunctional plus Almeida yet again shows he does not perform well in cold wet conditions. Ayuso making his case to be the leader when Pog not present.
UAE tactics were horrid today,
mon dieu le vélo de Carapaz c'est à se damner tellement il est beau.
At the finish Almeida said that he told Ayuso to go solo.
Their DS should blame Almeida for that. Bahrain was working, Uno X wanted to work, Quintana had a teammate, there were 2 sprinters with teammates. They would have been much closer with a full group effort but Ayuso killed that momentum completely.
What's the difference between a breakaway and a raid?
Raid: Laying it on the line for a big GC gamble (See WVA/Rog/Laporte in Paris-Nice)
Breakaway: Laying it on the line for a stage win (not usually done by GC hopefuls, al a every day in a stage race)
Two gladiators whitout motor !
Higuita!
Wait what happened to plapp
He slapped the shit out of it for Carapaz, job done!
One of your best re-caps. Maybe it was because you were so gobsmacked, maybe you're trying out a newer style. Either way. great job.
U. A .E ...💪💪💪💪
Do you have the rights for gent wevelgem again like last year?
No, they never got back to me
What is EF doing wrong with the racers they let go of and then we watch them thrash stages like this??
0:49 ... on paper
I find it quite ridiculous that Almeida didn't help his teammates. Being 3 instead of 2 chasing would've made a big difference. Instead his biggest rivals sail up the road.
It always seems that these GC guys are too good to put their own nose in the wind.
Never saw Carapaz doing much work at all - just stole the stage in the end, unless only a coverage issue, total limpet; loses some respect;
It is hard to care about a stage race without Pog or Rog....
Why? I really love races without them. When they are the race is bored
More wide open and unpredictable with them not in it.
I actually find it the opposite (with Pog anyway) as Rog is quite fallible at times.
It's actually harder to keep following a race with Pog or Rog leading early in the race...
Because it is the junior race...
