as an artist who started with doing just hip hop ambient music and electronic music has opened my mind more and now all i make is ambient and electronic music or blending the two
I love your videos. You have improved my approach to ambient music producing no end!! I still over produce and need to be confident to strip back. Still learning and improving
Love the video and tips. Im so glad I found your channel. Its just what I needed. Im a guitar player working on my ambient empire. Your videos are very informative, and I thank you for sharing em with us. Keep them coming!👌
I met Vincent Villius at Fractal Fest. Sat down with him and talked for a bit. He says there aren't enough ambient producers and was happy to hear I wanted to be one :)
Thank you for your knowledge and great attitude towards Ambient music, it's one of my fave genres to create and listen to I subscribed and bought a few albums off Bandcamp!
So glad I found your videos! I'm a keys player who started synth a few years ago as i was wanting to experiment more with ambient sounds, both live on stage and recording. Have recently purchased a DAW and have a couple of good synths and two reverb pedals (armed, but no idea what to do haha). Very excited to learn more from you
Thanks really like these shorter videos as I am beginning in sound design don’t always have time to watch all your longer videos but really appreciate the information!
@@s1gns0fl1fe yes would be great doing one of different sound design tips a series on how to ? Different modulation technics ect. Thanks that my input!
This video was awesome Chris. Just discovered your YT channel after being a fan of your work for a while (discovered you on a Hearts of Space show from a few years ago). Excited to learn from you and start releasing my own Ambient tunes.
Personally, I agree and disagree with the make your own presets tip. On one hand, making your own presets is a very valuable skill that all electronic artists should know. On the other hand, there's nothing wrong with using presets they are godsend for beginners as long as it's not holding them back and many professionals use presets to frightening effect. I'd compare them to copying something you like from another artist, such as an overall sound or chord progression, etc. It's a useful tool for professionals, but for beginners, it can often be a crutch.
11:00 Chris, so maybe this is a huge misconception… but trying to promote your music today is nearly a futile attempt… it would seem that one would gain a greater exposure to audiences being on an established label like yours… but from what I understand, not everyone can just “sign up” for record label. In other words… it looks like you may have to actually produce several albums, most of which may go unnoticed, until maybe you finally do find a receptive audience… then perhaps a well-known label might be willing to work with you. Thoughts?
Thanks for your comment. First of all, I do not think it's futile. In fact, I think it's more important than ever that you put your music out there. As I said in the video, the label is not the destination, it's nearly a point along your own individual journey. How much work you put in to promoting your own music is entirely up to you. I see artists out there all the time on social media and other platforms who are constantly promoting themselves. Yes, it's like a full time job but if you make enough noise - people will start to notice. Using Instagram and TH-cam are two great ways to build a following. The sales that flow in after that are just a natural part of your own evolution.
Playing for 30 years! I did a recent stream on my channel "Ambient Secrets" and you can watch me do my thing. I'll do more "ambient guitar" stuff in future episodes as well.
@@s1gns0fl1fe That sounds awesome. I'll check it out. Really digging your work. I was searching TH-cam to try to find out how to do ambient synth stuff for my synthwave project and your video came up. Keep up the good work.

Two free synthetic VSTs come to mind, Vital and Surge XT. For one who's just starting, these two are a fantastic start.
Great video. You gave us some really useful tips. I hope you don't mind me adding one more tip. Take meticulous and keep notes of your productions!!!

Thank you for getting me back in front of the DAW again.
Nice, thank you a lot for this video ambients on your level are my far far goal
TRUE !
U look very familiar lol even the body language. Dope video
Composing ambient music is like building your own unique instrument, which does not exist elsewhere. That’s my approach :)
this just cured my 'acquistion syndrome' - great tips
