  • As preparations continue for the eventual reopening of the iconic venue, the Lancashire Post has been looking back over the venue's illustrious - and sometimes tumultuous - past.
Local democracy reporter Paul Faulkner takes a walk through the 50 years of the hall’s history, from its opening in 1973 and its golden age, through to the difficulties that have dogged it over the past decade.
Along the way, we take a peek in the Post’s archive of pictures showing performances - and audiences - from gigs and events down the years.
See if it sparks memories of any of the shows you were at, or even if you can spot yourself in the crowds.

The three things that defeated the Guild Hall..1..losing major events like the UK Snooker...2..losing Morrisons supermarket ..foot fall dropped overnight ..and most of the shops suffered or closed 3..Losing the subway access to the Bus Station...the future seems very bleak ...but who knows maybe a saviour can yet be found....and we remain a city with no live venue..
