- My reaction to Suga Mama and how she treats Oscar in The Proud Family. This goes into a discussion of generational trauma especially when we learn about her childhood. Let's discuss. Please don't forget to comment, like and subscribe. Thank You!!!
To add on, I wanted to analyze how Suga Mama treated her dog Puff better than her own son, Oscar. In some ways, people tend to depend on their pets for the emotional support they never received 🕵🏾♂️
Kind of makes sense why Bebe and Cece mess with Puff.
Maybe they give puff the business because he give Oscar the business. At the very least maybe Puff acts like a spoiled brat to them thinking he could get away with it.
@@Reviewer2016 I thought of it as an “innocence pecking order.” Puff is a dog, so he gets away with some stuff, Bebe and cece are babies so they get away with more stuff.

I still remember when Suga Mama's sister came to visit and Oscar liked his aunt a lot more because the aunt had the audacity to be nice to Oscar. Suga Mama even had the nerve to be jealous even though she's terrible to Oscar. She insults and demeans Oscar even though she lives in OSCAR'S house.

Suga Mama's older sister not being factored into her extended backstory still bothers me. It's like she was retconned because the whole "you were treated better cause of your powers" angle doesn't mesh with having a sexist father
They could still have done that. The sexist dad would have been showering Sista with love because "she's a girl with talent and Suga isn't."
That's a good point ‼ it seems like the new writers forgot to factor in certain aspects of the older show
I know it's kinda of a reboot but Auntie Spice's inclusion in the original makes you think that the favoritism within Suga Mama's family made its way onto Suga Mama herself with how she treated Bobby and Oscar despite some contradictions. Wish that could've been brought up in Louder and Prouder but, as you said, it probably wouldn't mesh with the father plotline.

Suga Momma’s relationship with Oscar is a prime example of how most black parents may love their children but not actually liking them. I know cause my own mom behaves this way as well minus the hitting.
Which begs the question of why she adores Bobby but not Oscar….
I actually remember an episode from back in the day surrounding some of their conflict where Suga Mama outright says “I may not like you, but I’ll always love you” and it being treated like a wholesome loving moment between the two. Like it was on commercials and everything.
I recall a episode were its show that she was basically treated a similar way by her parents. So I guess its because she sees herself in Oscar and she doesn't like it.
Regardless its not uncommon for parents to treat one sibling better that the other
Thing is, I sadly don’t ever see any real SIGNS that she loves him. I kind of lost it all in an episode where everyone in the family is giving Oscar “we love you” and Sugar Mama after being forced into it says “I hope lightning don’t strike us for lying”

My favorite episodes of the proud family are the episodes that feature a character's extended family.
Especially that one episode where Trudy's family visits for the twins' christening, much to Oscar's annoyance. In turn, he invites his cousins over and irritates Trudy. This episode hints at Trudy and Oscar's possibly chaotic wedding that could be why Trudy's parents are overtly disapproving of Oscar.
I also found it entertaining when Trudy's snobby family interacts with everybody. Their wealth makes them so out of touch.
That was always one of my favorite episodes. They need to revisit that for the 3rd Season
Tough love can definitely be important for a parent to give a child but you gotta balance it out with the love and care. Her relationship with Penny is what she’s should’ve had with Oscar, and I think part of why the writers didn’t is cuz Oscar is a man. Only recently have shows been giving boys the same love and care that girls get from family instead of the whole “man up, boys can’t cry, tough love” act.
The best show I’ve seen challenge this is Gravity Falls. Stan was a total tough guy curmudgeon and he definitely had that attitude towards Dipper, but he still made sure he knew he loved him, and that he was trying his best to build Dipper up through the tough love. It didn’t have any weird animosity that so many of these types of relationships have
It messes me up how Suga Mama is so blantently abusive to Oscar and his whole family just treats it like a joke.

Sugar Mama's character to me gives off a "folks can resonate with Oscar" vibe, especially on abuse and victim of child favoritism (ex. Her treating Bobby better) that caused strained childhoods. I don't think the abuse she does to Oscar is necessarily due to her upbringing with a sexist father and tbh this new series gives off trying to make it seem that way but it comes off more disconnected from the older series. If that were true, Bobby and Oscar would both get the Oscar treatment. If wanting to make a generational parallel, I can see the possibility she picked up the favoritism quality from her dad (and it being reflected between favoritism with Bobby)cause certain things can get picked up as a result of upbringing. Even between those with strained familial relationships.
Edit: Saw bit more episode clips. She did run off on her own (initially supposed to be with one other person which O cannot spell the name cause quick skim) so from what it seems, I think it was an understandable reason. But I don't think any of the fleshed out details in Louder and Prouder can really explain her treatment between Bobby and Oscar, since that was established in the older show before this episode and happened years after the events of her leaving her former home behind.
They should hire you as a writer on The Proud Family: Louder And Prouder.

Im tired of trauma being used as an excuse for abuse, I used to love her character but as I got older I saw she’s just not a good person,she held Bobby back despite his potential as is the case with many golden children, and Oscar is another issue, Oscar was flawed but man deserved better.
It is sad thinking about that she is punishing Oscar for what his dad did.
She can’t punish the dad so she takes it out on Oscar.
I can’t imagine parents feeling like their kid looks like the person that harmed them, but at the same time, the kid can’t control that.
I respect Oscar for trying his best and cannot always blame him when he talks back at Sugar Mama. While it is comedic relief, it is amazing how much he puts up with that.
I am glad Sugar Mama does respect Trudy and the grandkids because it is one way if appreciating of what they do for her, but poor oscar sometimes.
I’m surprised that you didn’t mention the whole thing with Sista’ Spice being adored and showered with love while Suga Mama got all the rejection and constantly being put done, which is exactly what she does with her own two sons. What’s worse is that she doesn’t notice that she’s making the same mistakes as her parents did, either because she really does believe she’s showing Oscar her own expression of parental love or because she doesn’t want to subconsciously admit that she’s anything like her parents, especially her father.

It’s the same thing with Béatrice from Bojack Horseman. Her father lobotomized her mother and being sexist with her even at burn all her stuffs even her baby doll which she loved so much and since then Béatrice became horrible with Bojack without give him a affection from her and Bojack is affected at his turn being more awful then her screw up life’s others

One of the things I like the most about The Proud Family is how they subvert expectations and tropes. A lot of comedy shows rely on the mother hating the daughter in law while she dotes on her "little boy" and the DIL trying her hardest and failing to impress the MIL. Instead, The Proud Family made a staple of Suga Mama liking her daughter in law just fine, and being horrible and mean to her son instead. Kind of like how Trudy is the boss of the house, and Oscar is the doting parent, taking the kids to their appointments and fixing dinner. They're letting you know, it's a different kind of show than you might be used to.
I wish that you were working on the show. It would be a lot better. Your analysis here is quite well done and you know what fans actually want. We want fleshed out characters!

Sugar Mama used to make me so upset when I was a kid. I hated how she treated her son. Felt so wrong, I stopped watching the show as a child because of it tbh.
This video helped me see it from a different way though, something I didn't notice as a child
The cartoon fails if children don't get the right message.

I hated how she treated Oscar too. If I was him, I wouldn’t allow her to be crashing at his house….even if that was his mother. He wasn’t nice except for in rare occasions (Like when she protected him when her sister took advantage of him).
As an adult, my favorite thing is she never sugarcoats stuff. She’s honest like when she tells Penny that her friends are fake and 2-faced.
I think that is normal in black house holds. Sometimes your parents be cool, then all of a sudden they be whooping your ass as grounding for staying out late at a church youth group until 9pm. That they approved, I am not saying there is some weird mental health issues in the black community. But a lot of children who had black parents had very similar stories to me.
Once, I forgot my homework at school in the 2nd grade. My mom thought I did it on purpose and thought she would teach me a lesson by folding up this metal chair and beating me with it. Same story when I got distracted from my homework and decided to draw a mom bird feeding its babies. She beat the shit out of me within an inch of my life. Very common thing with my friends who came from black households. Not all of them, but a good majority.
Nah that was normal in YOUR household...not mine and FYI your mom abused you and it would be silly to not acknowledge how mental health isn't taken seriously in our community.

I don't remember the creators names, but I think that they aren't good at their jobs.
To be honest I thought it's because Oscar was just more proudful and was getting into alot of trouble as a kid and teen and complained alot when things don't go his way. so sugar mama was mean to try and straighten him out.

Maybe Oscar was an accident and his conception somehow brought bad luck onto Suga Mama and Percy and ruined their lives.

The high depression rates in POC communities (in this case Black communities) shows me that many of them didn’t grow up to be “just fine”. Like i would sympathize with Suga mama if she didn’t treat Oscar like absolute trash (many times unprovoked)- like why does she hate him so damn much?? 💀😭
Like Oscar is doing pretty good for himself. Lives in the suburbs, has a good wife, beautiful family. Is an entrepreneur....though not a very good one. But she prefers Oscar's brother? Who is a failed musician who leeches off of her?

My best guess? She still has issues stemming from her marriage to his and Bobby’s father (Percy). If you remember the episode of the classic (superior) series when Penny had a problem with one of her teachers giving her a bad grade? Turned out that woman (whose name I honestly forgot) had been friends with Sugar Mama in their youth and both of them wanted Percy, so they decided to flip a coin for him cos, as Sugar Mama said at the time, “Percy’s a man, he’ll take what he can get”. Sugar Mama used a weighted coin to win so she ended updating and marrying Percy.
Now outside of the _very rare_ photograph or memory we have never actually *seen* what kind of man Percy was. Hell the only time I remember Oscar mentioning him was when he was correcting Sugar Mama that she and Percy only took Bobby out to celebrate when he did good, never Oscar.
So between his attitude to women in the “how I met your grandma” episode and Oscar’s own words I think it’s safe to assume Percy was NOT a good guy. Meanwhile Oscar, while definitely an idiot is never intentionally mean (without reason). I think it’s all cos Sugar Mama sees her (presumably) deceased husband in her younger son so treats him the way she does, she can’t do anything to a dead man after-all can she? Poor Oscar 😞😞😞
Issue I had with sugar mama was entirely how she treated Oscar.
Sure he’s a failure, and he does the occasional Fred Flintstone scheme with “Barney” Felix, but one episode where everyone was giving Oscar a genuine “we love you” moment, she said “I hope lightning don’t strike us for lying…” and at that point I threw my hands up and said “this show is shit.”
ONE TIME. ALL YOU HAD TO DO WAS SAY YOU LOVED YOUR SON ONCE! and you couldn’t just leave it there.
I keep hearing people say that she “really did care for Oscar” but I never saw ANY of that.
Yeah her lack of empathy for Oscar definitely overshadowed whatever kind of love she tried to show him.
Honestly, I described it as, if Oscar were on fire, Sugar Mama would roast marshmallows on him then chastise him for them being cooked unevenly.

I think we need to have a discussion about how the physical, emotional, (and sexual but thats not relevant to proud house), abuse of men is played for laughs in our media. Oscar is a victim of abuse, plain and simple. His mother constantly beat, demeaned, degrades, and humiliated him growing up, and still does. His wife beats him, demeans him, and humiliates him, in front of his children. He is a bit of a womanizer, but honestly is a miracle he didn't turn out absolutely hating women, the same way many women hate or are afraid of men because of their own past abuses. His only other character flaw, is that he's a little over protective of his daughter, which considering how he was raised... its a wonder he didn't treat penny the way sugar mama treated him. Oscar broke the cycle of abuse, and he doesn't get enough credit for that. Its wrong that his abuse is played for laughs. I used to like sugar mama as a child because she was funny. As an adult, i see her as an abusive parent who took out her hatred of her husband on her son she's easily one of my least favorite characters. Yes, she was also abused by her father, but that doesn't justify her abuse of Oscar.
I agree. Even from a feminist angle, there’s no need to kick men down to bring women up. Abuse isn’t funny just because it’s a woman abusing a man, but unfortunately a lot of media seems to give off that idea, when I think most media would likely treat it a bit more seriously if it was a man abusing a woman.
(Obviously women have been historically, systematically oppressed much more than men as a whole, but there’s still issues on both sides and it’s really important to address double standards)

True. Oscar did deserve better because he stays positive and the way he moved on despite his trauma which made his breaking the cycle of family abuse possible is awe inspiring. I agree that haveing abuse of men portrayed as a joke is fucking sickening. Male pain is not a joke, and I say it as a feminist, and mabe even because of that. As much as I hate slutshaming, rapeing and demeaning done to women, I hate it done to men. Treat the others the way you want to be treated should be a common fucking sense.

C) the explanation for B. It is sad how much neglect happens in nursing homes. A couple people I know worked at nursing homes and saw that nurses, respiratory therapists did not take their jobs seriously and just left the patients to rot.
I only saw a fee videos that discusses elder abuse (physical and verbal) reporting or discussing the topic and do not want to treat it like the norm because it might not be, but I can see how it is something to worry about.
I can see how they did not want to put her through that. They may have tempted, but the good ones cost an arm and a leg, from what I hear.
Generational Trauma is real or some people would call it Generational Curse too. The only way to break it is for just one generation to put a stop to it as best as possible. On my dad side it was abuse, pride, and rage, but he was the one who stopped it and I’m very grateful and proud of him and even his family were glad he turned out better than them.
Her abuse torwards her son is really unpleasent to watch.😟 Like, what really gives her the right to out all the shit on Oscar? No wonder he's all disabled in mind. She raised him all the wrong way and just harmed him for wrong reasons......

Well some people think it’s the parents’ right to treat them however or it’s tough love or being strict but it’s just not the case
I think Oscar was trying hard to break the cycle. Sugar Mama was abused, she abused Oscar (though she claimed to love him, even if she didn't like him), and Oscar seems to wanna break it. There was some kinda saying where like, someone who punched you is giving a softer punch than the person who punched them, which is a softer punch of someone else, etc. Oscar may be overbearing and restrictive to Penny, but I think its also him just being the typical 'dad of a daughter' whose scared to see her grow up. He could be unfair, but he also always showed Penny how much he loved her and would verbally tell her that
Give a softer punch was originally from 'God, The Devil, and Bob' and is such an incredible lesson/perspective. That show deserved way better.

Every parent has a different type of banter with each of their kids. Some may be more strict with one, teasy with another, and even gentle with another. In the original show, i felt like suga mama and Oscar truly did love each other. But them teasing each other was how they show it. And when one wasn't teasy, the other would get concerned. The driver's license episode is a good example of that. But the new one added on to the dynamic by making it more traumatic and feel less like fun banter. It actually feels more like abuse. And it kinda ruins the relationship to me.
Proud family was def a product of its time. From its jokes and gags to how it would handle lessons. So when they try to bring it back with all the same character dynamics but add on more modern writing elements to it, it feels off. That's why this was one of those shows where, to me, the reboot does not do the original justice.
Suga Mama also showed a bit of her bad side to Penny. I still remember that comment from Suga Mama where Wizard Kelly proved that his own son didn't steal from his dad's shop and it was just Penny's siblings. Suga Mama said, "I'm seeing your daddy" to Penny. It's like Suga Mama can't help but to compare Penny to Oscar.
I don't think Suga Mama's family is the type to come and visit. They seem to be the type that would call or send letters, especially Suga Mama's dad. Just be kind of a mention like Sam's mom was in the OG ICarly.
I hope we get to see Sista Spice in Season 3 or at least a deep dive into her as a character, she seems like a foil to Suga Mama more so than her brothers were in the sequel of season 1.
I remembered an episode where Oscar reminded Suga Mama that her, Bobby, and their father went on a trip to Europe without him
Oscar and Suga Mama’s relationship reminds me of the one George Lopez had with his sitcom mother, Benny Lopez. It was revealed throughout the series that Benny was a teen mom who had to drop out of school and get a factory job in order to support her child. She was later abandoned by George’s father and had to be a single mom in her 20’s and 30’s. Her mistreatment of George was mainly due to having a rough childhood herself and the resentment of not being able to seek higher education, a career, and having a traditional family life.
Yeah buy sugar mama showed a little care for Oscar George's mom hated him like he had sister that lived down the street and she knew his father was rich and kept sending money to him but his mama took it
As a child I never put two and two together, because I grew up in a dysfunctional household. As an adult the proud family angers me 😂, why do they turn our pain into entertainment for others to watch?

Often people who make shows and jokes like these are taking their own pain and trying to make light of it for their own sake. For many, it is easier to cope with, fight, and overcome a problem when you can laugh at it. It's the same reason so many old cartoons feature suicide jokes and episodes like Tom and Jerry, Popeye, Looney Tunes, etc. Many of those episodes and jokes were made during or within living memory of The Great Depression when suicide rates were skyrocketing. While some out there try to make light of stuff like this to bring others down it is far from universal.

@@rdkirk3834 My post has nothing to do with "knowing better" but about explaining differences in how people cope in the past and present. We're on track to meet or exceed the suicide rates of the Great Depression despite a significantly higher quality of life than the people of that period so there is evidence that we are doing something horribly wrong. Those kinds of jokes also exist in more recent cartoons and shows. I brought up the old ones as examples of people very close to such tragic events making them into jokes because of their proximity to The Great Depression. Some people cope better by turning their harsh experiences into jokes and some don't. I believe that removing such a powerful tool for dealing with bad experiences across the board will do more harm than good. Assuming the worst about people who cope differently than you isn't a good thing.

When I was a kid, I thought it was just cartoon gags like any other show, but now I feel really bad for Oscar. He barely takes any of it out on Sugar Mama, and it's really mild when he does protest. Naturally he's not going to stomp on her foot and slap her in the face, but damn, what he opts for isn't even effective communicating...

My parents were spanked and hit as kids and thats what they did with me then they wonder why i was hitting other kids i dont think my parents ever hit my brother so he didn't learn to be agressive then he was the favorite. It took me a while to unlearn those habits. even when i was "fixed" the damage was done and he was still the favorite at least 4 my mom. Once i moved away with my dad 4 years then i think she realized what she done. so now im an equal to my bother. Not everybody is able to reconcile with this but to all families out there becarful how u treat your kids because u are teaching them how to act wether u realized it or not.
What “Damage” are you talking about spanking does not harm the child people actually need to look up actual abuse cases before they shoot their mouth
@@matthewbates9629 spanking/ hitting can become abuse when excessive. Just like too much medicine can make u sick, too much correction can be abuse. Plus I was the only one being punished even when the action was the same.

@@matthewbates9629there a literally multiple studies on how spanking makes children’s behaviour worse. You can discipline kids without smacking them for things that are often not something they can’t control like having an emotional outburst because they don’t know how to handle their emotions yet.

I love how you cover the topic of generational trauma. It's a tough thing to go through. I find it a bit funny in some episodes on how Suga Mama treated Oscar, but I also felt bad because it reminds me of my family and the generational trauma we've been through and some of my family members go through what Suga Mama did, minus the beatings.
I also love how Suga Mama called out Penny's friends being fake.

You bring up that sugar mama might have taken resentment for Oscar’s dad out on him, but honestly, I don’t really remember of any signs of resentment for his dad… admittedly I’m watching the original show in its entirety for the first time to give it a second chance. Honestly with Papi I felt he at least only insulted Sugar Mama, he didn’t freeload off her, he didn’t beat her up, so I kind of actually found him BETTER than HER.
Honestly, that was an assumption on my part because her resentment for Oscar made no other kind of sense 😳

One thing my OWN mother said about black families is that the boys love and respect their mothers, usually she’d say that when she felt I wasn’t respecting her as much as my cousin respected his mom growing up… but I’m watching the show in its entirety for the first time and im keeping three rating systems: one for the episode all around, one for sugar mama, and one for Dijonay. I’ll give her credit if she ever actually shows any sign of love.
@@TonyTurner by the way, are you going to do one of these for Sticky since he’s not in the reboot? I remember Sticky being the one character I liked since he was actually a good friend, and an all around cool guy with the sole issue of hiding/running from Dijonay.
If you want, id suggest comparing and contrasting how Sticky was compared to Dijonays actual boyfriend (haven’t seen the reboot so I don’t know his name- I just know she has one.)
Now as I got older, I really hate how Suga Mama would berate Oscar for the most minor of things yet let Bobby get away with anything. If we really look at it, Bobby is the true failure here. Oscar’s business may have failed but at least he tried to do something. Bobby does not even try to do anything whatsoever. I just hope that one day Suga Mama gets shit thrown back at her face.

I know sexism is wrong, and the way she was treated growing up was bad- and I realize she has her moments where she's shown to really care about Oscar and all... But man, the way he was instantly bonding with her dad more than she ever could, and instantly legitimately earned his respect over mutual interests and she got all sad- I could *only* find it in my heart to say "Good, that's what you get."
Is that fucked up? Ehh, if it is, it's the show's own fault. They're really bad at making you sympathetic towards the ones they want you to care about.

The sexism thing was handled better with Peggy Hill who DID NOT abuse her son.
I think we can sympathize with what Sugar Mama went through and how she's feeling, while also calling her out for how she treats Oscar. Both things can be true at once. Sadly it's also super realistic coming from someone who's father was horribly emotionally and sometimes physically abusive because he refused to ever deal with his own really horrible trauma.

I'd like to point out that Sugamama and her friend didn't give Percy a choice. She even said "he's a man. Hell take what he can get.". I'm not sure where anyone got the notion of him being a womanizer, but it sounded like she didn't respect him at all and he presumably left.
No offense but, if any woman displays that sort of mentality towards men, which is incredibly sexist btw, I have no sympathy for her.
And regarding the drama about her and her family, I'm sorry, but I don't buy into it. What she went through with her father doesn't justify that type of mentality. I mean, he didn't let her do bull riding (which was the way things were in the time period), but he didn't abuse her. While sugamama abused Oscar and possibly percy. 'm sorry, but blaming ones upbringing or bad experiences can only go so far.

I'm saying that, if you wanna fight sexism, reversing it in any way will only create more of it. What I described above is the natural result of this sort of representation. People operate off of a self preservation instinct. So, if they perceive something, of someone, as a potential threat or negative experience, that person or thing will be treated as such. You want trust between people if you're going to fight bigotry, and portraying abuse in any sort as a joke, and having the perpetrator face no consequences for it, only takes away that trust.
And I've had some one compare this show and its characters to Ed Edd n Eddy. The difference is simple. If a character is a jerk on Ed Edd n Eddy, they face consequences later on. The show is self aware about how mean spirited it is, so it doesn't hold back. On the Proud family, the female characters will hurt, abuse, or betray someone somewhere, but suffer little to no penalty for it. While the male characters typically get what's coming to them in one form or another. And if you're gonna ask about Papi making fun of Sugamama, he's usually around her. Idk why he is when he says he hates her, but he is.

@@jaquanscott3135 the show lacks consistency. Anything outside of the basic plot never sticks past the episode it's introduced.
If there is a season 3 I do hope there's an episode where Oscar gets to genuinely stand up to Suga Mama and just address the fact he was abused. Sure he's a wreck and kind of crazy but he's got a good heart and frankly he's a lot stronger than Suga Mama gives him credit for breaking the cycle of abuse.

I believe that Oscar looking like his Daddy really played a part in his treatment as well. It sucks as he stayed with his wife, loves his daughter and has at times helped his golden child brother out.

I always saw how Papi treated Suga Momma as karma for how she treated Oscar. Unlike Suga Momma his jokes don't seem to be as malicious in intent or tone. Also, Papi looks(and kind of acts) like the Joker as a senior citizen.
Honestly, all the girls and women on the show were either fake, mean, or abusive. Trudy included. Penny too.
And frankly, with how Sugamama treats Oscar, I think Papi is fair to make fun of her.
Like I was saying ALL Papi does is insult her in a language she can’t understand. It’s probably a novelty for him, and he doesn’t do anything worse then that to her.

One other thing I would like to add is in addition to the weight of the grief she carried from her childhood , if you look back to the episode Teacher's Pet from the og Proud Family, in the flashback, Oscar looks exactly like his father ( minus the small front tooth gap). It makes me believe that as a result, Oscar unintentionally served as a painful reminder of what she lost, and she unfairly took out her frustrations of said pain (in addition to her tough upbringing as mentioned before) on him.
P.S. I had a quick question about Percy. How did you know he was the player type? I'll admit in the flashback he does come off as a bit of a flirt with Suga Mama and her best friend, but there was never any true evidence shown of such. The only thing that was shown was the flipping of a coin to see who would have him which Suga mama won by cheating with a trick coin, and then it showed them getting married.
This show is just so messed up that has no redemption to me.
Personally, I don't like Suga Mama, because she reminds me too much of my own grandmother- showed favoritism to her other children, treats my mama like trash, etc.
Suga mama and oscars relationship is very sad and toxic. Shes one of those blk moms that shows favoritism. Shell hates oscar but will baby the hell outta bobby. Thats prolly why poppy is always insullts her cuz its her karma for how she treats her son.
I feel like if the characters actually respected Oscar, and give him encouragement, he can actually succeed, but every time he wants to try something new everybody disrespects him his wife, his kids, his best friend his mother don’t give me wrong there’s some episodes I think Oscar deserves what he gets like some episodes of the reboot, Oscar could be a little too mean spirited the original series Oscar actually try to have ambitions and people just shit on him

I always liked Suga Mama. Her character is that grandmother love with a twist of "wisdom". She treated Oscar sh*t though........which is disturbing. He always got picked on by her. Bobby is her favorite but that's messed up because of the favoritism. I hate the toxicity in the black community because not only the trauma goes along with abuse it's the generational abuse that creates more trauma. Suga Mama literally experienced abuse which she projected it towards Oscar. It's sad and it was cool the creators put her storyline with her abusive childhood. I feel Papi just was a racist throughout the entire show. He made jokes and colorist remarks about her looks. She didn't understand anything......but she studied Spanish she would've checked him period!!! Keep up the amazing work!!!

I love these videos, they’re more than just discussing how you liked the cartoon but the underlying issues with the characters. I always felt that when I would watch these shows there was always a lesson. I don’t think cartoons have that same appeal now. However, I could be wrong but it doesn’t seem that way. The crazy thing is you could always find it relatable. I could always recognize myself and characteristics of friends, associates, and family members within these cartoons. I think that the shows that actually features real ppl lost that appeal too. The storylines became so different and there wasn’t any direction or lesson. Thanks for these videos. ❤ the episode with penny and Johnny lovely was good too. I can’t believe the guy that played that part passed away.

Oscar used to have a lot better jabs with Sugar momma when compared to the old series. I wasn't sure about that "You knew I love you" remark coming up in the show.

I love your videos, thank you for covering this. SM was always a favorite but I did notice the dynamic between the brothers. Tough love is the easy way out. It goes so much deeper
From the stories I've been told my great grandparents weren't good parents and the only story I know about my great grandmother's father kinda involved a death threat so I'm guessing at least he was even worse. Seeing how my mother and uncle turned out emotionally and from what my mother told me, their parents were, while not as emotionally neglectful as their parents, not that great like from what my mother told me my grandfather didn't really pay enough attention to her I mean I'm sure he loved her he just never really talked at all though I think he was able to show that he cared later in life better as my grandfather. Now my mother was a great single parent to me and I am really greatful for all she's done for me though that doesn't mean that there weren't things she probably learned from her parents that she did unwillingly repeat even if to a lesser extent and I've noticed that some of the issues I have with her are similar to what she's told me about her relationship with my grandmother so I guess while they all try to do the best they can out of love that alone just wasn't always enough to avoid repeating what they grew up with. It's also quite obvious why neither of us ever learned how to deal with our emotions in a healthy way, all anyone in my family ever learned growing up was how to keep your head above the water and I guess you just can't teach how to get out of it if you never learned growing up or later in life. I'm just hoping that I can break with this tradition someday and maybe help them as well
When you actually sit back and look at it Oscars not the failure Bobby is. Oscar has his own house his own family with a beautiful wife and children and yeah his business isn’t the best but at least he can somewhat contribute. Bobby still mooching off his mother deep into his 40s he has nothing to his name other than a tricked out car. Oscar may look the most like his father but Bobby is the one that uses her for everything she’s got🤔

Okay i can relate to sugar momma in some cases although the way she treated her. sons Oscar and Bobby are two different things you got Oscar who get beat up every time that he see his mother. And the you got Bobby on the other hand he is freeloading off his mother No job No career and the only hobby that he has is making music and eating food. Then puff the dog he a owner's boy and always bites Oscar ear wax off every chance he gets.

Omg… the fact that suga mama treats one of her sons bad and other one really well, is what my own mom gets from her mother. My uncle who is the older child has always been the one getting my grandma’s love care and affection.
My mom is suffering from health issues right now and needs empathy. Need someone to be there for her. But her mother isn’t. She was never there. When my mom was suffering with bad stomach issues when she was young my grandma didn’t visit her in the hospital, saying to her “what can I do there huh? You got doctors there”
Meanwhile when my uncle was diagnosed with osteoporosis after a skiing accident, my grandma was being a whole entire different person helicoptering around him.
While now she’s acting like my mom is stupid for finally opening up about pain she has suffered for years. Saying things like “have the doctors said already about how much are you complaining?”, “why would you need another doctors opinion?”, “you don’t have the pain when you’re bouldering? Mhm… of course not”
It’s sad to watch. Sad to think that if I had siblings, what would have happened? Could my mom have learned from her mother not to do the same or accidentally continued the same path.

There are many ways to be a good parent, yet there are things that can be universally viewed as too much and too far. Suga mama reminds me of my own grandmother, except we didn't exactly have a good relationship, but the similarities are there; cheating husband, abusive childhood...
