    I like the peace of mind with the packages. When I'm on vacation I dont want to be counting how much has added up. Thanks for the break down, it's nice to know a few dollars either way is all it is.

    Thanks for the awesome info! I've got my first ever cruise coming up in 3 months, 14 days on princess, and this confirms it's cheaper for me to just get the classic soda and juice package. I don't drink alcohol or coffee, and having to "unplug" while away from ports will be a good thing! Plus, there's plenty of options for food without the plus or premier packages.

    Your PowerPoint presentation is very well presented. From your guidelines, I would say that with us using the Plus package would work for us as a benefit for sure. We easily drink alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks throughout the day so this would be to our benefit. I would say that we consume about $30 - 40 a day in beverages. We only need to us one wi-fi option per person and obviously have the gratuities being taken out automatically is good. I did the cost of the insurance, and it is 8% on the cruise fare item list which does include the Plus package on the charge sheet. Side note: I wish that Princes would separate the line-item cost of the cost of the cabin and any plus or premium package. Right now, they have them together. Thank you for taking the time to do this and sharing.

    Excellent!! So many people automatically jump on the alcoholic beverage portion of the package and say well I don’t drink it would never pay for me. But I don’t think they will take the time to run the numbers and see that it could! And honestly, I think even the most casual of drinkers, referring to alcohol, will have more than two per day. It’s very comfortable to have a glass or two of wine with dinner but also maybe one or two afternoon cocktails with friends! At that point the package has definitely paid for itself.

    Hi Jeff and Becky. Im so glad I stumbled onto your channel. I was getting ready to do the cost analysis for a family of 5 (2 adults + 3 teens) with 2 cabins so its a huge relief that you did all the hard work, THANK YOU! I just booked our trip for Alaska Cruise in July. This is not our first cruise but its been 5 yrs since our last (we did buy the drink pkg with RCL - but felt the pressure to drink like its College Spring Break, lol). Im glad to learn these packages have other benefits outside the drink pkg. Now that my kids are older on this cruise, Im afraid policing what sodas, specialty juices and etc they charge will be a daunting task. Your cost analysis just sold me to do the Plus. I look forward to following more tips from your channel, thanks again!

    Excellent explanation. For some reason in social media this topic of whether packages are worth it or not turn into outright shouting matches. It's silly. It's just math, and you don't need to drink yourself under the table to get to breakeven, a common misconception. This explains it well.

      I never realized that it was only a Royal Class thing! I did it for the first time in 2015 on Caribbean, and most all my cruises (or groups of B2b) at least once since! Ironically, the one place I didn't do it was on the Regal 🙃. Well Majestic, but they hadn't brought it back yet.

    There is additional potential savings if somebody orders food delivered to the cabin. A $5.00 per order charge is waved with these packages.
    I think, the company hopes people who can "spare" the extra money will get one of these packages for convenience sake. I will be traveling with other people (at my expense), so this is much less hassle. Still it is necessary to check the account daily to make sure there are no unexpected charges (I read some YT comments).

    Thank you for the break down. I am booking my first cruise soon so this is very helpful. Great tip to purchase package onboard since saying yes or no to the package is really my biggest stumbling block. Good to know that it can effect the insurance premium as well. Does an additional gratuity get added to your account for the value of the beverage package and casual dining allowance regardless of what you consume? I am headed over to the drink package video apologies if you addressed this previously.

    Nice job on the analysis! The one suggestion I would make is to comment on the fact that the Premier Package includes WiFi for 4 devices (you mention it in the beginning). For many people, this is a true benefit and even a requirement, and carries a significant upgrade cost. So, even if you don’t go as far as assigning an additional cost to include in the analysis, you should at least mention it in your summary, as an added Premier benefit to those looking to support more devices. Thanks!!

    • @ACruisingGoodTime
      @ACruisingGoodTime  ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video exactly what I was looking for - quick question wife & I have a 2 week cruise coming up in August and this new structure was news to us since the last time we cruised. That being said my wife doesn’t drink and has some food restrictions eg. Very rich deserts or high sugar drinks or food. On the other hand I enjoy a cocktail or two at the pool and have always enjoyed the speciality restaurants- can I just purchase the Plus plan for me and if so, will the restaurants still allow US to dine in them even though my wife does not have the Plus package? How do they handle that? Thanks in advance I am will be watching the rest of your videos

    • @ACruisingGoodTime
      @ACruisingGoodTime  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi and Thank you for watching. Princess requires passengers 1 & 2 to have the same package (none, Plus or Premier). So you and your wife will both have to have Plus if you have it. That said, there is some payback for non drinkers if they drink soda, water, and bottled water.
      You can dine at the casual or specialty restaurants without a package and just pay a la cart.
      Don't underestimate the exercise classes and photos (with premier) to get additional some savings there.

    WiFi on our upcoming cruise is not per day. It is 174.69 for the week. Why the strange number? who knows. But with WiFi so much more than this breakdown includes it is worth it. Hi. That is a great question about 2 beers per day. I ran it in my model using a typical beer price and on a 100 day cruise with the Plus package you exactly break even (actually you will spend an extra $23 over the total 100 days). Since I’m going on a port intensive cruise, I opted not to get Wi-Fi because I’ll have cell signal in Port. The other factor is that while in Port I’ll be eating and drinking out off the ship so well while a glass of wine and a cocktail sounds reasonable for day There may be some days where I don’t have any. So on average I don’t know if I will break even I found that the last time that I had the plus package I ordered a lot of drinks that I wouldn’t have if I were paying for them. And a lot of them I didn’t enjoy, if I was paying for them I’d probably send them back. They also tend to be a little weak so all in all this time I decided to try to forgo any package I’ll find out at the end of the cruise if I save any money.

    Hi! I booked 14 days cruise ( enchanted princess ) on November 2-16 to Aruba and Dominican for 3 people and i bought Plus Package. It says plus package for guest 1 and 2 so do I have to pay crew appreciation for guest 3 later ?

      Thank you for watching. The Enchanted is Becky's favorite ship!
      For guest 3, Princess will add $16 to $18 per day ( depending on cabin type) to your room bill for the gratuities if guest 3 doesn't have the plus package. If they do have the package then there is no additional charges for tips.
      Happy cruising!

    My problem is, while my husband would get some value by having a few glasses of wine or beer, I'd also have to pay for the package and I don't drink alcohol or take sugar. So no desserts, no sodas or fruit juices, I do miss the coffee card.... and we're elite.
    In Australia we don't pay gratuities since it's already included in the price and we don't get the insurance. We have to source that ourselves.
    The upgrades aren't worth it for us as we generally do 14, 28, 35 day cruises.
    We're doing 40 days (one 12 day and one 28 days, back to back) of international sailing next May, June, and while I felt the fares were very reasonable, calculating the daily gratuities is bringing it up to the usual fare prices we have here.
    Another factor for us is the dollar conversion rate when we are on board, everything on the international cruises will be in US dollars so we'll have to convert the cost in our heads.
    The 17 tours I've already booked practically doubled in price with conversion. Ouch! However this is a bucket list journey but I don't see the value in the plus packages for us. Based on your figures I've made the correct assumption.

    I actually just purchased the Premium Package for the wife and I this morning for our first Princess Cruise June 2024 to Alaska for 14 days. We really don't drink alcohol except for some fruity drink like a single daquiri once a year on a summer trip. We are going to use the package to try new drinks. We booked the cruise before the changes and the Premium option gets Alfredos back as it was when we booked but also includes Sushi as a Casual dining option and I can eat unlimited sushi. We wouldn't even bother with Specialty Dining or the casual restaurants if not for a package. We like the buffet and dining room food options. Not always the best but better than the fast food we regularly eat. Now we have done the math on what we need to order on average each day to make Premium a value and consider it a challenge. This is our 25th anniversary and the Premium includes a photo package not offered separately as well.

      Thanks for watching and enjoy your cruise!!

      Thank you for your comment. Please note our video is correct as per princess.com. The Royal class ships have gelato shops which serve gelato for an additional cost. The gelato shop is called “Gelateria” on the Enchanted Princess and is called “Gelato” on the Discovery, Regal, Royal, and Sky Princess ships. I love the pistachio gelato from the Enchanted Princess “Gelateria”. A scoop of gelato is not a premium dessert. Please see the below except from princess.com on September 11, 2023,
      “Gelateria - Princess Cruises
      Gelateria • Gelateria A Sweet Treat from Italy Taste the only gelato at sea certified by “Ospitalita Italian” at our shop inspired by the ones you find in Florence. (Picture hand-painted tiles and Renaissance vibes.) Our desserts are handcrafted and prepared fresh daily - is there any other way to do it? - and can be enjoyed alone or with any of our premium toppings. Additional charge applies.”

      @@ACruisingGoodTime Just off Enchanted and you could have two scoops (of any flavour) instead of a 'premium' dessert (a sugar loaded sundae isn't my idea of premium or dessert!) on a plus/premier package. It seems to be an unannounced change of policy. It makes sense as the premium desserts take considerably longer to prepare than two scoops and are theoretically much more expensive. I say 'theoretically' because they simply have 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream with a few bits of cheap confectionary thrown in for an additional $9 over the $3 charge for two scoops of your choice.

    Question, (we have the premier package) what if we don’t want to do the Prix Fixe meals and just want to order desserts or a bunch of Sushi? Are we then charged a la carte? Seems silly that I could get a 3 course meal included but if I just want the dessert I’d have to pay just for the dessert. Thanks!

    done as a true Engineer......... however....... most ships don't have Planks/Steamers, Carib does but we have been on her 3 times and it was only open once, we tried Planks and it was only fair/OK for "free"..... On a 7 day cruise how many times would one eat pizza? esp with so many other options. you can always pay a la carte $9 for pizza there, or get it by the pool?........AND you can order one pizza for 2 people, remember the "package" costs are really x2 for a couple and you have no choice......actually people on longer cruises are getting a poor value with the Plus because the casual dinning (if that's a big deal to you) is "two per CRUISE" ....... Once agn, Princess is in business to make $, if they thought everyone was going to at least break even with the packages they wouldn't offer what they do........ the packages do work if you are a drinker........we aren't...73 MP

    The packages are per day rates. How long the cruise is, should be irrelevant. Our problem is I'm not a drinker, and neither of us drink sodas or juice that much, nor can we eat anything loaded with fat and/or sugar, so no package is ever going to break even for us, maths or no maths. We are Australians and our gratuities are included in the fare price by law, so it's not included in packages we can buy. We certainly aren't going to pay $120 a day between us for crappy internet, no matter how hard Princess keeps trying to push the packages. There's always free internet somewhere in port and given our next cruise is in our home country, we can use our own data anyway.
