I am really upset because I’ve been told I do have dense breast, although I wasn’t given a number on the braid, whatever that’s called #1-4. Each year they say everything looks fine. I’ve asked about having an ultrasound & the Dr who reads my mammogram says it’s not necessary unless something is seen on the mammogram. Well, guess what, obviously if a woman has dense breast you’re not going to be able to see everything. So, like an idiot,I went home happily thinking everything was fine. So for years I haven’t had an ultrasound. I have had to insist on having one this year, but you would think a Dr. in radiology would say it’s standard protocol for me to have one. When I just called the breast center & asked about this, a lady said well you’re having a 3D mammogram so that’s enough. When I told her I’ve seen real stories on youtube where cancers ended up being found on ultrasounds but not mammograms. I was floored when she told me to not believe what I see on youtube videos. I told her these are real stories by real women this has happened to. Then of course said my insurance may not approve this. Well, too bad if they don’t. I’m sick of having insurance decide if a woman should have the medical test she needs.

In 2018, I went for my annual mammogram. I was taken into a conference room afterward & told I had very dense breast tissue which significantly increased my risk of breast cancer. Thankfully, my doctors have taken the matter very seriously & been extremely proactive about my diagnostic care. I have appointments every 6 months...alternating mammogram & contrast MRI. I've had several mammograms and scans and only today was I told that I have dense breasts. I had a lump that turned out to be a cyst and was aspirated. I was relieved until the doc told me having dense breasts makes detection of breast cancer much harder. So now I'm more worried than before I had my appointment! And my mum died of breast cancer.

  • @maryduval8566

I have known since I was 20 about dense breast tissue. I always told my Gyno I don't do self exams because if I worried about every lump I would be a basket case. It has always been an issue but since telling my mom years ago, she said its the same with her. So since getting mammograms it always comes back abnormal, not because they see anything wrong, but because they cant see below the surface. I don't worry as my gyno told me in advance I would probably get a call back, so just do what they want and it is usually ok, they just need to see what they want to see. I have no breast cancer in my family, just really dense breast. This being said I have a sonogram tomorrow for my abnormal breast tissue, wish me luck!

I am so sorry that you had to go through the agony of breast cancer, but thank goodness you're okay now. Mammograms are an absolute joke for women with dense breasts. Fortunately, many states have enacted laws which mandate that doctors must tell their patients if they have dense breasts. WHY didn't doctors willingly disclose this information before? WHY were doctors hiding this information? It's a crying shame that it takes a law to force doctors to be more honest and open with their patients. SHAME on the doctors! And SHAME on the medical profession! The medical profession is VERY corrupt.

I feel they do not care.

I have extremely dense tissue as well and the mammogram did not detect cysts but my follow up ultrasoun did. The pain that the mammogram caused me was intense and long lasting. I believe it compressed the cysts and now 6 months later I still have pain and yet they want me to do another mammogram! No way. I am going to get an ultrasound only if I can and I am looking into getting a self pay, less expensive MRI called a "Fast Breast MRI". Studies show that this specific mri caught cancer that even the ultrasounds can overlook. Sure many false positives but I don't care. I have no problem getting a biopsy to find out. Look up the fast breast mri.

This feels like my story as well. A random comment by the technician doing my mammogram that i had dense breast tissue so I she needed to do more slides to get good imaging. No follow on discussion and so at the end of the day, all this meant to me was more discomfort and a longer appointment. Over a decade later and my mammogram is determined to be abnormal which then started the ultrasound, biopsy, and bilateral mastectomy followed by immediate reconstructive surgery. Thankfully my lymph nodes were clear and I was given a clean bill of health all in 1 month. While I am so grateful for my outcome, I’m resentful that I wasn’t given more information regarding what dense breast tissue could mean for me as well as the fact that I was automatically offered ultrasound as a more effective manner of imaging.

I am going to have a 2nd diagnostic mammogram on Monday. This is a 6 month follow up since my last diagnostic mammo with ultrasound. Yes, I have dense breasts.
I also have breast cancer on both sides of my family, sadly one resulted in being diagnosed too late.
I was told " something new" had shown up in my mammogram, which was why they sent me for a diagnostic mammo with ultrasound. I was told I needed to follow up in 6 months(which is this Monday) and again 6 months from then. I asked why if something "new" has shown up, why they weren't doing a biopsy. I was told there was "nothing to biopsy".
I am confused by this answer, if something "new" had shown up on mammo, but after ultrasound, "there is nothing to biopsy", why would I have to follow up in 6 and 12 months for that breast?
When I questioned that I was told, "Well, you don't have to come, it's up to you". What the HECK does that mean?! Talk about mixed messages!

Exactly, my complaint is the same as yours with Mammography even the newer 3D. It might not detect breast cancer tumors in women especially those with dense breast tissue. Then it becomes seriously larger in size and becomes more invasive. We need consistent dependable early breast cancer detection. Also, Lobular Carcinoma can be one of the toughest ones to detect. It doesn't form a hard lump. Koning Breast CT is the most advanced scanner on the market today. There are other companies too Izotropic Corporation out of Canada that utilizes the research of Dr. John Boone UC Davis and AB CT from Germany. All three of these companies have scanners that are pain-free, without compression, and are true 360 Degree scans. My opinion is that we need these dedicated Breast CT Scanners for screening Breast Cancer right now.

I live in Washington State and this year, and maybe last year on my mammogram report letter it stated that I have dense breast tissue. I'm going to check with my insurance now about whether they cover ultrasound. I know in the past when I had requested further diagnostic testing they required that a mammogram be done first, and I said its a waste of time, but had to do it anyway. The reviewing doctor came in and said "I don't see anything abnormal on your mammogram", and I said, "I know." My experience has too often been that doctors, especially male doctors don't listen and don't "believe" or respect what I know to be my experience of the body I live in. BTW, strong history of breast cancer in my family at a relatively young age, in one case leaving my grandmother orphaned as a teenager.

I do. I also had TNBC in 2014. I had a bilateral mastectomy and my right breast I still have a mammogram ever year and my 2022 November stated very dense I just read this on “my chart”. No one called me no one has referred me for further testing. Broken system.

My mammograms have said I have dense tissue. They have never said I need more tests. Until now I go back for more tests in Jan so I hope all us good

I am SO glad that you are scheduled for more screening. Going forward, additional screening should be part of your annual routine. And remember to ask what level of density your tissue is (there are 4 levels). The higher, the more dense your tissue. I pray that your results are clear. Stay diligent, my friend.

@@rabbithillinn Thanks for letting me know about the 4 levels I would if never known that. I just email my Dr to see if they could do an ultrasound instead. This is from a Ted talk I listened to. It us the best way to see cancer. I also have a very high genetic disposition to breast cancer 97 & 98 percent. Also since I NF1 it is also a higher percentage of having cancer

I just had my mammogram and was sent the details in the mail. Luckily I have fatty tissue. My mammogram was free and done every two years since I was 40. Ultrasound & MRI are free too should I need it. Women who are in the high risk level get their mammogram done more frequently.🇦🇺

I have dense breast, so when I get a mammogram, I also get ultrasound. They found a cyst in my breast, but I’m always worried if it really is a cyst.

I just asked about this and my doctor said it will not be covered by insurance. Guess my only option is to have the 3 d mammogram. How much do typical ultrasounds cost

I found a "lump" in my left breast and they did an ultrasound because I am so young. Told me it was sense fibrous breast tissue. Idk what to do with this info? I still feel it and hasn't changed in size.

Always research these docs unfortunately are driven by insurance kickbacks and what have you I could go on just make sure you feel comfortable with your surgeon with your pathology and understand your pathology and don't ever ever not second-guess any doctor bang on that pathologist or if you have to

    • @rabbithillinn
      @rabbithillinn  ปีที่แล้ว

Please don't give up. Investigate several hospitals & other imaging places. Some may offer reduced sliding scale fees, or they may have funded program offerings. Continue your local Breast Cancer associations for guidance. Please keep trying. 💕
