Seeing this video made me cry my grandma is one of the ladies carrying the saint she passed away back in 2018 I miss her so much and just seeing her the way she was before she got sick just really touched my heart. I miss you sayah.
Thank you for your comment. I'm sorry for your loss but very pleased that you discovered this video. It was recorded with permission almost nine years ago during one of my early visits to New Mexico before moving here. Best wishes to you and your family!
Just Sad that Native people have sold out to that man religion " Christianity" .. there's more truth to our true Native ways then Christianity... hope we as Native People wake up and return to that TRUTH...!!! BLESSINGS!!! NATIVE INDEPENDENCE..!!!
What are they doing? I'm actually Tewa Hopi Paiute Navajo but was raised among the Hopi people. I'm from a village called Shungopavi in northeast Arizona. Hopi reservation. There are churches out here but we don't allow them in our Villages or our ceremonies. I'm just curious as to know what these people are doing in this video.
This is a made up dance for the Christian saints. the pueblo and other tribes would dance shared songs and dances. this is one made up and adopted to please the euro religion.
Perhaps if you were aware that very ancient traditions from three continents are collected in this festival, you would see it differently. The real disease is the obsession with purity that leads to immobility and death. Just as a man and a woman come together to have offspring, cultures also merge and create new ones. Adding new rituals is the way the old ones survive. I am Spanish and when I see this festival, I see Christian rites from the East, I see the dancers from Spain, who may be thousands of years old, and I see movements of the native people of America. Take off the blindfold and have respect for the traditions of so many different peoples that come together for this party.

How were you allowed to record?
I purchased a permit from the Pueblo. I'm not sure whether they still do that. Thanks for your interest!
It’s 40 dollars to anyone who wants to know
Looks like some catholic rituals lol
That’s because it is. The matachines dances are done to praise God and honor Him and the saints. It was preceded by a Mass by the looks of it
Interesante
