  • www.beadaholiq... - In this video, you will learn about the different types of bead and pearl reamers and how to use them. Reamers are primarily used to make the holes on your beads larger, clear bead holes of any debris, and to bevel the edge of the hole to prevent your thread from being cut by sharp edges.

    Bead reamer are used only to increase the size of the hole? What about if we want to make a new hole in a pearl? What tool is used for that?

      Yes, bead reamers are just for increasing the hole size. The create a new hole you would need a drill.

    I just bought that package of 4. I should have put my head in water cause when I tried to make a hole larger (glass bead) my bead split in half. Then just today I was playing with it and used it on a plastic bead then I stuck the reamer in another glass bead without even doing anything that bead split in half. I was so shocked cause I didn't even twist it or anything, I figured maybe the reamer was warm from using it in the acrylic bead first, boy are glass beads touchy. Was bummed cause they were beautiful large glass beads.

    Could I use a bead reamer to make a stone bead have a lot bigger of a hole. Like 1mm to 1.5 or 2mm? Or is there a better tool for that?

      It really depends on the stone. You could give it a try but you will need to be very careful. I think widening a stone hole that much will be difficult with these tools. I would reach out to someone who specializes in stone drilling for a tool recommendation, unfortunately we do not have a tool for that on our website.

    Are these readers worthwhile to make pearl holes larger to fit onto 2mm leather or would an electric reamer be more practical.

    • @beadaholique
      @beadaholique  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      We recommend an electric one if you're expanding holes more than half a millimeter. The manual reamers are great for easily widening holes in small increments.

    Would this work for superduo beads that sometimes have a blocked hole?

    What tool to use if the pearl doesn't have holes in it? ....

    • @beadaholique
      @beadaholique  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The best way to create holes is by using a bench top drill. We carry drills here: www.beadaholique.com/eurotool-compact-precision-bench-top-drill-press.html
      Thanks for watching!

    CaN you use it to the pearl without holes?

    • @beadaholique
      @beadaholique  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, if you use a reamer to create a hole that hole will be very unevenly sized. To make a completely new hole in a pearl you need a small drill, probably one specialized for jewelry.

    Can I use the reamer on metal?

    • @beadaholique
      @beadaholique  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We've used them to take burs off the edges of metal bead holes so they can work on metal, but depending on the hardness of the metal and how much work you're doing may wear the reamer out quickly. For detailed work with metal we prefer to use these diamond files, which are more durable: beadaholique.com/products/10-piece-4-inch-precision-diamond-needle-file-set

    My bead reamer is completely smooth and is barely effective to stone gem beads but it says it's for those too. Why isnt it working? It chips the bead

    • @beadaholique
      @beadaholique  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it's completely smooth it's not something we'd personally recommend for use with stone beads. For those you do want a rough textured reaming bit, and for best results one with an industrial diamond coating.
      Remember to use a bit of water on the tip, and keep in mind when you're shopping for a replacement tool that depending on how hard your gemstone beads are a hand reamer may just not be effective at widening the hole. Their best use for gemstones tends to be for smoothing the edges of holes to help prevent your threads from fraying. Here's the best manual reamer we carry: beadaholique.com/products/beadsmith-economy-diamond-tip-bead-reamer-one-handle-three-tips

      @@beadaholique i see, If I can't do the gemstone on some stones ill find a silver bead that I enlarge the hole to cover the crimp hopefully it works, and now it makes more sense why the beads broke

      @@beadaholique hello, I've got another question. I got a new bead reamer that is rough and has some shines, I think it's one of the diamond coated ones. Will it wear out if I ream metal beads holes to hide my crimp beads?

    • @beadaholique
      @beadaholique  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@shafquatara2648 If it's a well made tool a diamond-like coating then it will be very durable and you should see it last 10 to 20 times as long as other metal tools used for similar work. On some less expensive tools the diamond-like coating may peel off over time, but they will still do good work while they last.

    could I put Swarovski pearls in the water?

    • @beadaholique
      @beadaholique  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fernanda Gonzales You could put swarovski pearls in the water without the water harming them but I am not sure what the reamer would do to them. Swarovski pearls are faux pearls and you might damage them by trying to alter the hole.
