What a great driver Mansell was, certainly one of my favorites, I remember that I had his poster in my room

Should have definitely been two time f1 Champion in my opinion. If that damn tyre hadn’t had blown !

@@scoobystu78 if the Ferrari was more reliable this season in 89, I reckon he would have had this season too, in 87 he was runner up due to the way they counted races back then, in my mind if the conditions were slightly more favorable for Mansell he could have been a 4 time champ. yes I was a big fan of our Nige too.... he had 7 retirements in 89 due to a fast but unreliable Ferrari.... the man was fast and Senna respected him. Patrese, Berger, Senna and Mansell were brilliant in this era, Prost also but he was like Hamilton and complained too much for most peoples tastes back then. thank you for posting this race - I subbed.

I remember Boutsen's mirror being taken off by the debris in the first corner crash - that could've been nasty :(

the camera work sucked. They missed much of what happened. The guy says Herbert was obviously tired and the next thing you know he's competing for second. Also, they're saying good riddance to the turbos? The 1.5 liter V6 Honda turbos were the most incredible engines to ever be in an F1 car. A thousand plus horsepower 1.5-liter engine. They were brutally fast. I don't think the shifters went to the steering wheel until the last year so you basically drove the car with it's 7 speed gearbox with one hand on the wheel and the other on the shifter. It's like trying to balance a yardstick on a finger and then lifting it from around your knees to over your head. The faster you try to lift it the more you get behind the balancing

What Hunt meant by saying good riddance to the turbos, was more thinking about saying goodbye to fuel management races. Also you never knew with some passes, if the driver being passed was managing fuel or not. All that came to an end in 1989, with pure flag-to-flag racing.
