  • How does Dodge Charger become a Patrol cruiser? The public now has an exclusive all-access pass that takes them behind the scenes with the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
A new web series, Behind the Flying Wheel, takes viewers into some our most interesting operations.
The first episode features the new assembly line process through which the Patrol's distinguishable marked cruisers are constructed.

citizens don't need or require to be at a certain high speed or using phones to text people. Officers use that high speed to immediately detain (considered emergency) and make sure a speeding driver doesn't cause any injuries to other motorists. They also use computers and radios to get calls and know where the place is located and who are they dealing with. Learn before you open your stupid mouth.

I think that's the idea, you don't see them in the median. Since Ohio can't use unmarked cars by Ohio Law the silver helps. I haven't heard of a surge in OSP cars hit since they went silver...just my 2 cents worth.

@ dmoneyas24 - Yessir, I'm glad to see someone with excellent common sense in here ! Both Fords do indeed "suck" ! Stick with the Dodge Chargers ya'll ! The new Chargers are much, much more "cop friendly", a recessed, built in computer saves a ton of interior room, and they're STILL the fastest, best handling and stable patrol cars on the highway !AND just yesterday on I -74 (EB) as I entered Ohio I saw the ultimate in police vehicles that should be awarded #1 IN THE MOST HORRIBLE patrol vehicles category that really do suck, a new Chevy Suburban unit running radar/laser in the median strip...my God it's as big as a school bus and rides high above the road ! What an accident just waiting to do what giant & high riding SUV's do best, ROLLOVER ! Pursue a Mustang 5.0, a Corvette or Challenger Hellcat in that Suburban ? No way, not me, not in that boat ! Hey, I'm a retired LEO, I've driven sedans from all 3 big American manufacturers, I've got nothing against any of them, but it's a fact, over the years one company has got the idea and built the best police cars...yes that's Dodge (and Plymouth before they dropped that line). I've got plenty of true stories to back that up ! Hey OSP, the Chargers are the best, the new ones are better than any in recent years, STOP the SUV madness and stick with Dodge Chargers, you won't regret it ! I've tried them all and Dodge has produced the best. Hey, just because Dodge isn't the biggest of the "big three" doesn't mean they're the worst, because they nailed it in the past 5 or 6 years with the Chargers !Oh, a 2nd place winner? Well it's no Charger, it isn't as good as the Charger, but it's good...that being the Chevy sedan (Impala or Caprice, I'm not sure), they have some power and nice handling and look good too. But I's avoid the Fords...the Crown Vic is gone, R.I.P., they were big, hugged the road, but face it, they were pretty darn slow..."dogs" some said, and in latter years they lacked dependability...I actually had the gear shift knob come loose and separate from the steering column in one, a pin that held it on the column came loose and drop to the floor...LOL ! I swear that one is true !

Its been used by the patrol for 77 years buddy when the patrol started in 1933. Here's a little history behind it from the patrols website The Flying Wheel, which is a federally registered trademark, is one of the most distinguishable images of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The “Flying Wheel” was the idea of an engineer named Joseph Goldberg in the 1930s. Goldberg specifically designed it for the patrol. The Patrol has the logo federally trademarked so nobody else can use it without permission from them OSHP has had the trademark since it was used by the patrol in 1933. Indy 500 logo is not even close to being the same look as the OSHP logo. Anyone who claims that the OSHP copied the logo from the Indy 500 is a complete moron. Anyone who thinks it even closely resembles the Indy 500 logo is also a complete moron who should get their eyes checked because it clearly doesn't even look closely resembled to the OSHP logo.

This should NOT be done by State agencies , this should be done by the cheapest bid contractor ... temp agency.... Having state people do it means Unions / pensions..... and high taxes. In fact, privatize all Police agnecies and run them for profit and traded on the stock market. get Govt out of everything....
