As you would probably be aware, they were essentially a RS3 with two additional axles, hence RSC-3. They were mainly used on loco-hauled trains in Nth America and hence, they also did well on passenger services in NSW. The RS3 was a better pulling engine, due to the absence of the idle mid axle. Thanks for your comment
Most certainly, it is in some ways an honoury steam loco that is very underutilised. The trouble is that the folk at THNSW do not know the history of the Model-RSC3 and what a pivotal role the related RS3 played in the early stages of dieselisation, particularly in the USA. Another issue is that it is unreliable, but this does not mean it should be so. My grandfather was a leading-hand fitter in the early days at Delec and he spoke well of the 40 Class. Moreover, the Lousiville & Nashville also spoke well of their Alcos, especially the RS3s. I would such that their wows stem from the inexperience of the staff as many have rarely if even worked on Alcos. Their experience would be many on EMD and GE with some Alcos.I stand to be corrected though.
I remember working those 40 class on the north in the sixties cold and draughty not much power.
Nice pictures thanks Stephen, Are they ever going to reopen the rest of the line from Thirlmere to Mittagong.👍👍👍👍🍺
My word, Thirlmere to Colo Vale , the way it looks will be open for 2025
@@australiasindustrialage689 Not all the way to Mittagong?.
