Why would MGM release a Nelvana show or movie on DVD rather than at least Warner Bros or Sony? Warner Bros distributes their content now, but they used to release a few releases of The Magic School Bus (1994) until 2005, which is another Nelvana series.
Nelvana has licensed their titles to many American distributors over the years. Disney has Rolie Polie Olie and owns Handy Manny, Lionsgate/FHE had the Miss Spider TV show and Nelvana's Care Bears show and CG movies, Paramount had Little Bear, Ned's Newt and Donkey Kong Country, etc.
And Sony Pictures had The Berenstain Bears (2003 and 1985 cartoons), and Maggie and the Ferocious Beast until Shout Factory and PBS took over. And also The Care Bears Movie 2: A New Generation because Columbia released it outright.
Cookie Jar Entertainment (as well as DIC and Cinar) mainly licensed their shows to NCircle or Mill Creek Entertainment since they had a few problems with 20th Century Fox (which they distributed Strawberry Shortcake (2003)). But not for The Real Ghostbusters because Sony owns it mainly because they own the other movies, and MGM owns the animated series of Stargate Infinity since they produced the other series.
