    If you have to make a video on how to update your receiver then its too complicated. Car stereo manufacturers are still stuck the 1990's when it comes to the UI. It's horrible.

    I like how you picked one of the easier to decipher version numbers for this video. It's so frustrating trying to figure out what the heck the version number is or what it should be on pretty much EVERY update I've ever done (it's easily in the hundreds and it frustrates me to no end). Also, you didn't talk about the difference between the System, Application and DAB (not even shown on this radio) versions and when to update each of those. Do we always update all of them or is just the application applicable? I've been selling and updating Kenwood radios for over 25 years and I still struggle with this process. I sure wish you guys would make it way way simpler to do these updates. Can you imagine how many phones would not get updated if it was this complex and archaic????

      Thanks for the feedback, As part of the Update process the support page will display at the top 1 or 2 tabs if there is a need to update DAB as well as the Application software. Also to aid in identifying updates, you can also look at the Update instructions highlighted in Blue on the update page, they clarify what version you need vs what version you display. Since receivers are not connected to the internet currently, this is the best update process available. Thanks!

    I have a DMX47 and get the on-screen prompt asking if I want to accept the updated data from the USB. However, it does not let me choose YES. I can only select NO and have to exit the program...

      At this point we do not have a video yet for that purpose, and thanks for the feedback.

      @KenwoodUSA thank you for responding...
      Do such instructions exist at all? On paper, online etc?
      Perhaps I heard incorrectly about being able to upload photos to my receiver

    Hello! bought kenwood dmx958. it was installed today. There is a problem, the "menu" button does not work, the settings menu does not appear. My previous kenwood was dmx8019dab and there the "menu" button worked properly. Everything else works great. From time to time there is an offer to update the firmware, but I did not find the firmware for the kenwood dmx 958xr on the site. How should I do this? and will a firmware update fix this problem? I will be grateful for your help!

    How do we update the DMX1037s with the 10.1 inch screen?

    • @KenwoodUSA

      It's relatively the same process as above but you will search your receiver model number from the Kenwood support page and follow the instructions for that particular update. Thanks!

    On second thought... If it was that important for these receivers to be updated then I believe Kenwood would have made an app for Android and iPhone that would update the receiver, a Kenwood app, through Bluetooth the same way we use a music app to listen to music.
    So, I am guessing it's just not that important.

      The updates do not update in that fashion, we require manual updates via USB and file download due to file size limitations via phone app. The updates are important to maintain optimal performance and to fix bugs you may experience during operation. Thanks!

    tried to update my dmx47 and it went black and never came back.....!!! wth happened how do i fix it need some help asap. out of warrenty at the audio shop i go it installed at. the reset button wont even work now. its just a black screen. what do i do??

    • @KenwoodUSA

      Select a good quality USB 2.0 (MUST BE 2.0 version or better) and at least 16g to 32g USB Drive and download the update from scratch. ( DO NOT RE-USE A PREVIOUS DOWNLOAD ) With the receiver powered on, plug in the new USB drive and wait. This may require some trial and error.
      This issue only occurs when a low-quality or small USB Drive is used and does not have the read/write speed required to complete the update without issue.
      follow the instructions listed on the update page, and repeat the process for downloading and placing the files on the USB Drive. there is a file built into the update that will automatically start the update process on the black screen. Thanks!

      Thank you for the response I got it working with an older USB stick I had. I think the newer one wasn't 2.0 it was newer usb stick but put the downloaded files on an older one and boom finished the update 🤘

    Does it really matter. Does it drastically affect the units function if you never upgrade. Honestly I find it to complicated. If it was as easy as phone upgrades are, I would definitely do it. My excuse is, I'm over 60. I remember how awesome it was when I bought a car with a cassette player in it.😁

      YES, in most cases. Besides regular "bug fixes", the updates can improve operational and boot speed as well as add functionality.
      I own several of the Kenwood XR double-DIN head units. I recently purchased an "old" Kenwood eXcelon Reference DDX9905S that was originally released in 2018 to use for Bench Testing.
      The unit arrived and I set it up on the bench and got it connected. I powered it up and noticed that it took longer to boot up than the same unit I have installed in one of my car audio systems.
      In addition, while going through the setup menu, I noticed that some of the setup screens were missing important features and functions compared to my other unit...in particular some of the "Network Mode" crossover, level, and T/A settings.
      When I checked the Firmware and Software on this unit, it had a very early version that I didn't even know existed...I actually think it was pre-production firmware, LOL.
      I proceeded to update the unit to the latest firmware and software, and it became a lot faster to boot up and faster operation overall with less lag, and all of the "missing" screens and features compared to my car's same head unit were now present.
      Just one example: This unit was originally marketed and sold as having WIRED Android Auto.
      But with the latest update on the Kenwood, my Android smartphone and tablet can now connect WIRELESSLY to the Android Auto in this particular head unit!
      And if you are used to updating any type of CPU-based device or computer/PC/Mac hardware, the process is EXTREMELY simple and straightforward...not complicated at all!

      @bbfoto7248 I've got a ddx4019bt. Am thinking of doing a total upgrade from excelon headunits, amps, speakers and subwoofers. So, learning to do this upgrade thing would be beneficial. I'll go see if there's any upgrades for my unit. Once I get a USB. Thanks for the heads up.

    Not real helpful when you consider the only way to open the .bin file is to download a third party app. Any that I have found does not open this type file without a subscription.
    You also compared updating your receiver to updating your phone. To update my phone, I turn it off and back on. Update done !!!

    • @KenwoodUSA
      @KenwoodUSA  19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You are not supposed to open any of the files inside the download folder. The .bin bin files are inside the Zipped folder, you simply unzip the files and transfer them to the receiver update USB then the receiver opens the .bin files during the update. We mention the cell phone updates as they are directly related to changes that may cause receivers to require an update to maintain compatibility with the updated cell phone. Thanks!
