The Guitaristas TH-cam channel is fully independent of sponsorship, and supported/gifted products... it's all the thrills without the shills! 🎸But this content costs real time and a lot of money to make so my own way of raising a few extra $$ to fund the channel is via the subscription TV Channel at: theguitaristas.tv and I am very grateful to my growing army of loyal supporters there who help fund this content, make it possible, and keep it real. Such a great presenter and everything is filmed beautifully , my favourite guitar channel on TH-cam by far 👍👍👍
😊🙏
I'm never in a hurry when I watch one of your videos. it's the slow pace without any accelerated speech with pauses cut out and such that I like about them 🙂
We're polar opposites. It's the slow pace that I dislike intensely. I do, however, appreciate the thoroughness of the reviews. Time stamps are frequently employed.
I like the candid nature of the show. It feels very authentic and easy to watch. Completely agree
Three key components to making a success of a TH-cam guitar channel. Being able to present, play and produce the video. You do all three Col and willing this channel on to get the numbers it and you deserve mate. Please keep the content coming
😊🙏
In the end, it's not the tools, but how you use them!!! Just brilliant!!
If you don't have good tools for the job,you will struggle more than you need to..as a professional in two different occupations in the past,it's well known, your only as good as your tools
@@Jeremya74 Fine tools can help, but it is the skill and talent of the person using them that truly make the difference. In our case, it is definitely the player, not the guitar, that makes the difference.
Love having more content about super budget guitars from a channel I trust to treat them fairly
With Gibson, Epiphone and Fender prices rocketing up at a ridiculous rate, thank God for the cheaper well built guitar...They’re single handedly saving the guitar market. My grandkids could all save a buy something like this whilst the above brands are well out of their reach....thanks Colin for presenting guitars from both end of the price scale...The best independent reviewer on TH-cam right now 😊
Great to have back Colin! Fridays haven’t been the same! 👍🏻🎸🎸🎸
18:51 To be honest, if I had listened to this without any info, I would say it sounds pretty nice. For me this shows that most of the tone is just amp, pedals and eq. It's incredible that you can get a decent guitar for 89 bucks now
Any guitarists worth there salt knows it's WAY better to get a great amp than to get great guitar..most great sound comes from great amp
"Cheap as Chips" I love it ! That guitar is a bargain for beginners and seasoned players to mug around with, and not worry about messing it up.
Knurled Nobbs - what a bluesman he was
😆👍
'Knurled Nobs' would also make a wonderful name for an all girl rock band!
Lol
@arnebroxleirnes418 oh my...you naughty boy 😮
He used to play with Stikky Frets
Just got paid today and I still have a pocket full of change! Sounds great! Hard to beat for that price! Cheers!!!
I really look forward to your show. Good fun!
Welcome back geezer!
Very interesting to see you almost having to hold your nose when the video started, and I'm sure that you were struggling to not call it Coyote Ugly. After a quick clean up and into the playing and you seemed much happier.
Careful... after a positive review like this, the makers may just re-release the guitar under a new name, call the colour Old Copper and bump the price to £139.
Thanks and have a good weekend, Colin.
For 89 dollars it's great. Cheaper Guitars have come a long way in a short time. That could be a great player or a great mod platform. Great video and great playing this week. Cheers
You really seemed to enjoy playing that cheap little Fazley guitar today Colin. I have the Fazley coyote plus model with a string through ash body so it has some weight to it. Also comes with roasted maple neck and fretboard Wilkinson bridge and i believe there Wilkinson pickups although not branded as such a Graph tech tusq nut. So pretty good specs for the £153.00 i paid for it two year's ago. Currently there available on the Bax site for £114.00 so something of a bargain i think. Personally i like the hand stained finish mine is in green. I think it gives it a rustic hand made feel. Telecasters were originally designed to be simple basic affordable workhorse guitars by Mr Leo Fender all those year's ago. Loved the video as usual always enjoy them.
Green would be very Francis Rossi and Status Quo!
Just don’t drill a hole in it like he did! Lol
That was some of your best playing yet Col ! Love it
😊🙏 cheers mate!
not bad for $89 or pounds.... my Les Paul II from Epiphone was $50 used, and I love it. If I didn't already have a Squire Affinity Tele, I would consider it. I'm really quite surprised. Cheers Col! Have a great weekend!!!
Cheers mate and you!
Your restrained, clear playing is very effective in displaying the sounds of a guitar, as I said before 🙂
A great beginner guitar and a platform for people to develop their setup skills.
Not bad for a lousy $100.. another great film. Can't wait to see what's next !! Cheer's
Nice playing today, you could hear you were getting into it 👍🏽
Goes to show that a good player can make even an inexpensive guitar sound pretty great!
Thanks mate that's appreciated 😊🙏
So ceramic pickups are not to be sniffed at. It sounded good. As someone who has just spent 260 quid on a Harley Benton, and still had to level some frets, file the sharp fret ends, clean and polish the frets, set intonation, (at least the nut was ok) to end up with what could now be called a good, playable and enjoyable copy, the idea of an even cheaper guitar that only needs as much work anyway is appealing. Yes, an American Fender Tele is more desirable, but as someone who finds even £100 difficult to save, it is off the wish list. These reviews of the budget manufacturers by yourself has proved that even Guitar players with high standards can -with a bit of work, make a starter Guitar worth owning, and if like me you end up walking alone through a city late at night, after a jam in a jazz bar, back to the bus stop, you really don’t want to be carrying a Fender custom shop.
Ceramic pickups have their place in music like any other pickup. Some find them too harsh and maybe a bit brittle, but dial the tone down and they can absolutely sing.
I took alnicos out of my Ltd and shoved 17/18k ceramic humbuckers in their place and they’re insane
Nicely done...as usual. Thanks!
You are great at what you do sir! Another awesome film!
Thanks for the show, great as always, see you next week, same bat channel same bat time ✌️
Good review Colin, if you're a beginner what's not to like for £80....Thanks you're still the best on TH-cam ! Excellent !
You certainly made it sound amazing.
Cheers John! 😊🙏
I got a Fazley V around a year ago, for around 200 quit. It was decent (frets needet polishing, ends were great) and gave me all the V coolness drip I wanted. Changes the typical stuff (PUs for Epi Alnico Classics with gold covers, a pair used for 50 bucks), nut and tuners and treated the fretboard to several coats of a very dark wood oil. Now it has the full "black beauty" vibe and is just a very decent V to rock out when I feel the need to have the extra showboat-y-ness of rocking out a V.
Less than 90 quid. Brilliant.
You always make everything you play sound good well playing.
I mean it sounds fantastic though.! This is just silly for that amount of money! Amazing. Great stuff. Serious good tone Colin. Really great stuff. Fantastic production as well. Sounds like I'm sitting in your room. 🍻
Cheers mate that’s appreciated! 😁👍
I purchased a fazley Tele style about 4 years ago & out the box it played great & at £57 the only thing that bugged me was the tuners but hey it still gives me great pleasure every time I pick it up & it does get more of my time than most of the others I own, great value compared to what you used to get back in day😂👍🤘🎸
I thought it sounded fab. Great playing too Col. So much choice now for affordable T shoes that don't suck😊, Liam.
Man you were rocking this week - I would have been over the moon getting that as my first guitar.
I don't suppose that it's any secret that many affordable guitars today are far and away better instruments than their counterparts from back in the day. This one would have cost me about $14 back when I started playing, and I guarantee that thing would have been a pressed wood nightmare better suited to be an oar or doorstop. Now, as Colin demonstrates, it's a perfectly serviceable beginner instrument or something to just screw around with up in the music room. Ain't we lucky?
Terrific budget guitar, sounds and looks great, new guitar players are lucky today !! 👍🎸🎸😄
Look I have way better guitars but I still want this... Guitars like this make me question why I actually own more expensive kit :D I don't need better guitars.. I need to be a better player :D
Don’t we all!😂
Nice video again Colin.
The tele is such a great design it lends itself to cheap creation it doesn’t mean the guitar is bad.
To people who don’t already know spend a bit of money on a good amp and any of these tele’s Colin has been reviewing will sound just fine.
Colin’s rig isn’t cheap but there are great alternative amps with pre sets already built in.
No need to drop a grand on a guitar when you can pick up a whole rig for £300 or less.
My squier strat had ceramic pick ups they were fine for 20 years I’ve changed them in the last few years for some 50’s wound but not because I needed to I just wanted them.
I had a go at playing Just Got Paid before I watched the video! Unfortunately I don't get paid until next week...
My version is more like nearly got paid! 😆
Maybe your secretly a Tele man? Nice outro. Cheers!!
Hi Colin. Great review as usual! I was buying old Epiphone specials for between £50 and £100 so that I could learn how to strip them down, rebuild and modify them. I jut bout a Farley for £70 and it’s going to be my first tele experiment! Not sure what I’m going to do yet but I do plan to drill for a string thru, probably new tuners and possibly pickups. Can’t wait to get started
Great playing rockin just got paid i love it. Great episode .
I don't care what that telecaster costs. It sounds great.👍👍👍👍
Thanks Colin!
89 pounds...all-in...there is nothing to complain about at that price. I'd buy one, dress the frets/neck, you can even paint it the way you like with a finish like that. Slave labor? How the heck do they do it at that price? Fun guitar to pick up and have some fun with, even gig and smash it ala Townsend at the end and not give a darn. When I started playing in 1962 89 bucks got you a slab of wood and a hammer and strings and a few nails to hold it all together. Really surprised at the unplugged performance as well. Cheers Colin!😊
Ello Gunah! Been a minute no? Brother my shyte health is undermining my great health, and I may not have the energy to comment as much as I used to but I am always watching and learning brother!!!
I do appreciate your effort to increase my guitar knowledge bank, so thankee bro!!!
"Cheap as chips" ahhh, almost brought a tear to me glass eye bro! My dear departed Mom was a Bingley Yorkshire goil and she used to say that on occasion. So you brought some fond memories bro!!
Another one was reserved for those times she took me grocery shopping with her and I always harassed her to buy a bag of spinach! I did NOT like the stuff, but my favourite cartoon tough guy Popeye loved it and it made him mighty!!
So, by the time grocery shopping rolled around I would have long forgotten that I hated it and wanted more!! Of course that was just one of many other delicious (or not) items I wanted her to toss in the cart, back around 1966 someone had an awesome idea which was to combine peanut butter and jam in the same jar and called it "Bama Swirl" or "Goober" and what kid in half their right mind could see that and not immediately throw themselves on the grocery store floor kicking, screaming and ;lashing out "I want that"!!!?
OK, I gotta come clean bro, yes, I did ask for the PB&J swirl but had I EVER thrown myself on the floor and carried on like that my Mom had zero problem ripping my knickerbockers down exposing my bare bum to the poor patrons and smacking my ass!! LOL!
Thankfully I had an older brother and I observed him in action which gave me a great before and after, or cause and effect!! I knew where Mom's boundaries were watching my brother get her hand imprint tattooed on his ass plenny of times!!
Anyway, one of her numerous English sayings at the grocery store was "It's cheaper to keep you a week than a fortnight"
I let that one go for quite a while but curiosity got the best of me one day and I asked her what that meant.
She told me a "fortnight" was two weeks and so what she was saying was "It's cheaper to keep you a week than two weeks" ahhh ya! Even as a punk 4 year old in 1966 I knew that made exactly NO sense!
That's exactly what I told her, "that doesn't make sense" she sort of shrugged and agreed and never used the term again! LOL!
Anyway there you go getting me yammering on endlessly and incoherently again, knowing I'm prone to droning on when I'm on goofballs...aka pain meds! ")
Colin bro, wouldn't it make a solid video drilling holes for a string through body on that axe?
Pretty easy and straight forward!! I'd like to see that!!
Thanks for the running axeucation bro!
Jack ~'()'~
Good to hear from you brother! 😎👍
@@theguitaristas Bro the old ball n chain bought me a brand new lawnmower, a heavy duty 4 cycle brush cutter/weed whacker and chainsaw for my birthday!
So, "Happy Birthday...get to work"!
I know she'll love the new king sized pillow top mattress I bought her for her birthday which is 7 days after mine...Happy Birthday hag...now get to work!!
Nuk Nuk Neyah!!!
Jack ~'()'~
Nice Jam Colin… can’t argue with “it’s alright innit”.
I say there, Colin. I like that guitar. I think it sounds great for $$$$. Thx again for another great review. Cheers
The Mojo was flowing nicely through your magic fingers
Thanks for amazing reviews. Please can we have a review of SX Vtg guitars?
That sounds great Colin, looks good too. A few tweaks and it'd be a very giggable guitar even as a back up or slide machine.
I like the look of the hand stained finish on this guitar.
My day is made!! A new Guitaristas video!! 😁🤘I love your videos mate. Hope all is well!
Cheers mate good thanks!
Hi Collin , met you in London a few weeks ago.outside ⭐ 💵 Hope you are well. I Was back there again last week at Wembley. I had a fender squire top 🎩 loader tele . It had a great 😃 resonance, maybe that's why Jimmy Page played one. Some of the best. Sounding 🎸 guitars in my collection cost less than 90 Quid even with upgraded pickups. After all they are just 2 or 3 bits of 🪵 stuck together
With a few bits of metal and magnets attached. They shouldn't cost the 🌎 earth. It's just Rock and Roll at the end of the day. A lot of bands used to 🗑️ trash them for their Crescendo. Best regards. 😊 John
Hey John, yes mate I remember meeting you in Oxford St... thanks for saying hello 😁👍 Cheers!
sounds great, looks good, like the grain colour on the neck , as you say spend an hour polish frets and smooth the ends treat the fretboard its a keeper
Nice to hear from you mate.Ít's been a little while .Ŧhis isn't the best looking Ŧele {Í think enough time has passed to call em that ] but in your hands it sound fookin great! A bit like the ̛jet jt 300 being a top loader at first you think negative but as all my other Ŧs are string thru it might make a nice change tbh Í'm very impressed .especially for the money and you really do it justice too Í have to say.11/10
Jam'in the Coyote... watch out Roadrunner!
Excellent licks Colin. You've given us a great look and listen to this affordable tele type guitar.
Cheers Sensei!☕🥃🍁 Is it gauche of me to enjoy this video for the second time (including the TV Channel) with a shot of whisky and maple syrup, or Winter coffee here in late Spring? Naw, it warms up my pipes. 😁
Sounds like your getting ready for the weekend in style Pinkie! 😁👍
Colin, you could put 10s on a 2x4 board and make it sound great. I think this guitar would be fun to mod. Splittable humbucker in the neck, some decent tuners. Ashtray bridge. Knobs and switch would get by for awhile. It really does sound good. Your RAT needs more fuzz. Those t-styles rock through a tc-electronics Honey Pot. Looking forward to next week. Glad to see you back.
Very underrated channel
Nice review as always. For the price (GBP89 = USD115) it's not bad. The bones of it (the body, neck, and basic build) seem sound. Give it some TLC for the frets, and board, and you'll have a decent guitar. Pickups and tuners are always something you would upgrade in the affordable guitar range. There are even top-load vintage-style bridges you could upgrade to.
Yep that my friend is why I and many others love your channel mate! Great honest review, loads of detail, stacks of guitar dude talk, and love for the instrument, and of course playing. This was a great vid Colin, £89! I got clobbered almost the same amount by Bath Nazi council ULEZ charges!! Your playing on this vid was inspirational mate, loved it thank you.
Cheers Steve that's appreciated! 😊🙏
I have watched all the t-style reviews you have done and can't wait for the comparison. It seems like all of them would make great modding platforms. Hard to go wrong with a guitar for under $200 or the couple under $100. If the neck is good and the body solid, everything else can be changed out if needed. I always wonder how an updated low priced guitar with say $300 in parts and a little work would compare to a far more expensive instrument. It would be a great comparison. Your playing was spot on in the video. Sounded really nice.
Great guitar for the money , looks cool too❤
The swiss army knife of guitars ! Teles are fabulous, it just goes to show what a great creation Leo made ! Can not be bettered in my opinion. I own 4 Fenders and 2 Antiquitys and a Vintage modified Squier from 17 years ago, my main players are the Antiquity"s ! What makes this Fazley interesting is the 14 inch radius board good for stubby fingers Colin !😉
Three of these affordable T style guitars that you've reviewed have caught my eye. The Eastcoast which is string through with 3 saddles and 12" radius fretboard, as is the Antiquity but with 6 daddles, and this Fazley. I'd prefer the Antiquity but with a 9.5" radius! Guess aI still need to shop around. Thanks Colin.
Sounds great for 90 quid ❤well done
Nice first guitar. Good gift guitar for a potential player.
It looks nice, is my first impression, I like the colour.
I like the bare wood handstained finish very much.
Can’t go wrong with Tele. Had a cheap HB I loved. A low end Fender arrived with lower action played better, but I didn’t bond with it as well as the cheapy. So, I bought a CS 52. Now I have the ultimate Tele. Never thought about buying another since even when buying seven SGs. Okay, maybe I want a rosewood board and thinner neck. Damn you!
I wish this level of inexpensive guitars were around when I was learning. Shocking!
Great guitar for the money and by the way my wife loves your playing. Cheers Colin.
Cheers Robert! 😁🙏
I dug the noodling lead deal you were playing there. Sounds great, I really like the tone.
You know, I may just have to pick one up for myselfish!
Jack ~'()'~
oh @#$% off, that sounds gorgeous.. going to have to reassess my bias against bar pickups 😮
Hi Colin, great video as usual. Just wondering if you'd consider doing one on the Harley Benton dc-600. It's an SG style, 3 pickup, is £160 and I know that people seem to be pretty curious about it, including myself. Cheers.
Not looking for much and it still does the job............
Hey hey Col. I must say, not bad at all. If it was £189 instead of £89 (whatever that is in dollars) I'd expect a few of the finish details to be better, such as the fret ends. But it sounds surprisingly good. Pickups actually have some range, and balls too. Pots are pretty good. A couple hours to detail this and set it up properly and I could work with it, seriously. Great place for a beginner to start out and learn these things without much penalty. Cheers all from Dallas, where it was 100°F today.
While not sounding bad, I find the bridge pickup lacking in treble/bite, for a Telecaster. Which is why I would get a Telecaster-model in the first place. It's one of the guitars that I don't have,. because I never felt the need for one (while they do have a very good sound). If ever I'll get one it will be a Fender one for that reason. Just for the fun of having a real Fender Telecaster, not because I really need it.
Nothing wrong with that. Thanks for the video.
Aloha Colin! For 89 pounds I guess you can't beat it
Sounds pretty good on my phone.
Colin! Someone may have got a bit too excited when making it. Nudge, nudge, wink, wink!😂😅😊Say no more.
It wasn't me when unboxing it honest... 🤣👍
Thanks for the review Colin,I wonder is the fretboard gunk, some of the dye that's being used to darken fretboard woods, some of the cheaper ones out there are nearly red in colour,ok guitar for the price tho
Without any pre-judging based on the fact that this guitar is a super cheapo, your playing sounded quite good… almost as if the guitar inspired you a little bit. And I’ll be damned if the guitar didn’t sound pretty dang good. I guess it all comes down to what a person REALLY wants to get out of their guitar. At the very least, this guitar would be great for keeping next to the couch or out in the garage for some noodling around. Good video!
The just got paid jam gave me some really Peter Green Les Paul tones. Insane considering it's an 89 quid Tele copy. I might try and recreate some of these tones myself, of course it's the way you play em too our Col 👍
I have not watched the video yet, but they generally make some great looking guitars (this one aside). Particularly compared to Harley Benton whose guitars are always painted in very conservative colours.
I always get the kettle ready for these
Years from now imagine one of these selling at auction for ungodly money because it's the guitar that (insert new famous player name here) they played their first hit song on. Cheers!
Better than a guitar at that price has any right to be for sure. Its a bit nuts how 'affordable' guitars can hold up so well BUT its a GOOD thing. Of course more budget gets you more everything but that playing sounded like you were really enjoying yourself so spending big dollars isn't always a necessity -and for new players- for that money its pretty hard to go wrong whether they get hooked or give up.
It sounds very balanced to me. I can close my eyes and not know what kind of guitar you're playing. Of course, we know it's more the player than it is the guitar. Well played, as always..
I need to build a partscaster one of these days. I have a couple of Fender bridges, both types. I prefer the ashtray bridge, too. All I need now is a body, a neck and some tuners. I have a couple of pickups, a couple of guards. The minor bits can be bought off Amazon.
Not likely to come in under £89 though.
Outro is very reggae-ish. More of that!
Cheers!
Good Friday afternoon, great musical performance of a cheap Telecaster. My personal opinion is that for about the price of 3 cheap guitar effects, you can't ask for more. It's good that there are such cheap guitar manufacturers. They give young people a low-cost entry into the guitar world. I like this approach and what I would give for it at a young age. Unfortunately, everything was a little different for us. Nice guitar, solid sound, acceptable workmanship (the modifications are nothing tragic, basically it's almost the same for all cheaper brands, and not only them) and of course the price. It seems to me, according to the reviews on YT, that this brand is becoming very popular. Thank you for the nice video and I wish you a nice weekend. Pavel CZ.👍👍👍
Cheers Pavel, have a great weekend! 😁👍
Fazley Maverick Plus HH (offset) is fantastic. Roast maple neck,Tusq nut, and ash body. 140 pounds. Wonderful guitars.
Nothing wrong with that Gat, would be a good guitar for anyone IMO.
89 quid shipped for a guitar that works straight out of the box and sounds like that is certainly worth it. It sounds great! I think you've found the perfect rig that makes any guitar shine, and that rig is a '65 Princeton Reverb, a Soul Food pedal, and a Rat pedal. IMO, what you've proven with the dozens of reviews is that a guitarist should spend the $$ on a rig that produces great sound, plug whatever you like into it, and you're all set.
anytime someone says Fazley or Fesley I can't not think of fez hats lol like fez lay on table and there's a little red hat there
lol there's a red hat over yonder, babyyyy
happy saturday everyone
What a fantastic video have a wonderful weekend Colin also I am a Muslim to be honest ❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊😊
Not bad at all. I wish I had all these great cheap guitar options when I was younger.
I love cheap, buildable guitars! If the bones are good enough, everything else is fixable! Paint, electronics, hardware, tuners, fret job! That's the fun of cheap guitars! Thanks 🤘
Like Trigger’s broom you can change the neck the body the pickups the electronics the tuners and you have a great guitar😂
@eoinjennings519 Ability to knowledge different strokes for different folks! 🤘😆
I bought a Columbus Strat Copy for £75 in 1975. £89 40plus years later for something playable is I think remarkable really.
