Oh,i remember in an interview that there was the idea of having the first cave randomly flooded but it was scraped due to being glitchy,but looks like it's still in the game in a very weird way
Yes! I remember Andy Hull talking about that in the interview, he said "It's in the code, there like, y'know code bits and fragments of the flooded mines" it was scrapped because of time constraints mainly cause- yes it was indeed buggy and they needed to fine-tune the technical aspects.

I have no idea! I suspect the warp is still possible, but probably there would be checks in place to prevent obscure level numbers on the leaderboard. I'm just guessing though!
apparently other levels you can warp to are all the same. overflowing causes a crash, this happens if you use a HH you get from a character coffin instead of a normal shop HH.
This was all discovered and the set up worked out by other people, I take absolutely no credit! I first heard about it in the Spelunky speedrunning community discord.

in-game leaderboard displays it as 1-1

It's a necessary part of performing the glitch. Don't ask me why, some much cleverer people than me worked it out!

hmm seems to me that the reason you died 15 times was solely attributed to hired hands, try not using them next time maybe...
