Its important to note that Disney got the Reedy Creek Development District not directly for their theme park. Walt Disney World (park) is shoved in the farthest corner as it was simply a condition to get funding for the entire property (banks, investors, etc). The original goal for Disney, was EPCOT, or as it was known, the Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow. So yes, while it might seem like a bit odd for a theme park to have supreme municipal power, that was what it was for: a city. Look up the "1966 Disney EPCOT film" for more, its a pretty fascinating look into what was quite literally Walt's last dream.

Yep, through lobbying to their Representative, Sonny Bono of all people, who wrote and helped pass the Copyright Term Extension Act (nicknamed the "Mickey Mouse Act.")
Funnily enough, it's come back to bite them just a little. Pay attention to pop culture and it's clear that Disney wants the rights to The Wizard of Oz movie so damn bad (making "Oz the Great and Powerful," incorporating the Land of Oz into the "Once Upon a Time" universe,) but that ruling keeps the rights safely in the hands of Warner Bros.

Yet other results of Disney’s corporate cronyism and monopoly power have remained hidden - until now.
      Crooked Kickbacks
Perhaps one of the most egregious revelations from the audit was the unethical flow of perks and benefits from Disney to RCID employees. Disney effectively bought the loyalty of the district.
According to the report, here’s how it worked: Disney would provide flashy perks to Reedy Creek employees, many of which weren’t available to the general public. These benefits included up to 40 percent off Disney cruises and merchandise, other discounts on resort rooms and services, and millions of dollars worth of Disney park annual passes for not only employees but also their friends and family - plus free, single-use, transferable tickets over the holidays. District employees even received some privileges reserved for Disney workers, known as “cast members,” such as gifts and invites to closed-door parties. Of course, none of these kickbacks were included in workers’ taxable income.

Ironically, what Florida's doing is more like a knockoff of what the Chinese government does. The Chinese government can actually produce the results it promised, most of the time.

I always wonder is there any legal action for a business when a government is openly trying to punish someone with malice by passing laws. It has been openly stated that this isn't for the betterment of the community but as revenge.

I actually find that interesting that Disney linked that to the British Royal Family because I remember watching a British documentary about castles and the host was Dan Jones, I believe, and one of the episodes was at Warwick Castle. Well at Warwick during the Civil War between the Royalists and the Parliamentarians several prisoners were held there and some of them managed to carve their names into the stones of their cells and one of these names was Disney. I think the guide even said the family was local to the area at that time. Anyway I found that quite cool.
