This is a PERFECT law for Malicious Compliance.
Take the most "Karen" parent and send them daily notifications of changes in behavior: child asked to change seat, child drank milk, child stepped out at un unusual time to go to the bathroom, child has a new friend, child asked to join a glee club, drama club, science club, child asked a disturbing question in class, etc.
Comply the hell out of that law.

Democrats in national office had as their primary platform political revenge for the election of Donald Trump. The day he was elected many prominent democrats swore to impeach him, and even made one ludicrously weak attempt at it.

The only way you would have a worse chance of beating mickey mouse is going into a war against the actual character: the character can create a sword from his own heart that shoots magic (which if death battle is to be believed is superior to yoda’s lightsaber and the forc) the mouse also has army allies from every kingdom of every country (including the oceans), the rebel alliance, the imperials and the avengers. Ron desantes couldn’t beat that army, cathulu couldn’t beat that army.
The Government punishing a private entity over their public opinions doesn't seem to be something that is or should be allowed in a Democracy.
If it is illegal, DeSantis publicly shouting out his exact motives for each action will make Disney's case as easy as possible for them.

Disney is now suing Ron in Federal court for using his office powers for political retribution against Disney.
Since Ron and his associates helpfully made it very clear why they were taking action against Disney.
Loving it.
Evidently Disney has a very strong case, as multiple past state and federal attorney generals have said.
It's not a difficult case when the evidence is posted by the defendant on Twitter voluntarily for months.

Man Ron DeSantis is talented. He's probably the only person that could get someone to cheer for Disney in a legal battle.

Yeah. I detest Disney (mostly for their copyright shenanigans*) but DeSantis somehow managed to get me to support them. The way Disney controlled the district stank to high heaven, but supporting LGBTQ+ was not one of the problems.

Trust me when i say Disney has prepared for this moment for decades, not just during the months after DeSantis signed the bill. They have had generations of legal experts consistently refining just the right charter waiting for the day when a governor like DeSantis would try to pull the trick of getting rid of their special district. There is no way any legal source DeSantis can muster is going to find a loophole in this agreement.
They can't even bother to read the publicly posted notices from the board they intend to take over; somehow I doubt their legal analysis will be any more competent.

@@donovanmedieval 26% of all box office dollars in 2022 were for Disney owned movies. Including 4 of the top 8 highest grossing movies of that year. So…they’re doing pretty good getting butts in seats.

What I see as a last line of defense for Disney is that their execs close the doors of Disney World, lay off nearly half a million employees (I would really hate it for them because it isn't their fault - it sucks being a pawn), and take a Disney cruise to Anaheim laughing all the way as DeSantis watches his tax revenues go south, unemployment spikes, and his approval rating goes to hell because he had the stupidity to chase one of Florida's biggest employers out of the state.
Maybe he should just let free people be free.

While DeSantass brings in expensive (on the state taxpayers' dime, of course), conservative law firm, D.C., "hired guns" to try to wipe the mouse droppings off of his face.
This whole situation has me howling in laughter. For decades, conservative interests have been trying to deregulate corps at every possible turn, giving them as much power as humanly possible in the current political climate.
Now that the corps are doing a thing they don't like, they think they can just... arrest control back. As if nothing happened. As if all that power they avidly provided were an illusion we all cooked up in our heads.
They created this monster. It's poetic.

There are different types of conservatives. Ron obviously isn't an establishment conservative, he seems like a heavily (for today's times) culturally conservative
It is so sad to see people calling educating children about sexuality "sexualizing children" and "grooming children". Especially knowing that teaching children how things work and what is appropriate and is not, actually helps them speak up and prevent prolonged sexual abuse.
It is precisely this "anti-grooming" ideology that is making grooming easier.
And of course teaching about LGBTQIA+ issues actively prevents future misery for some children while having little or no negative impact on the other children (research even suggests that a more LGBTQIA+ accepting society would benefit everyone)

Yes! So much grooming is successful because children are not informed (at an appropriate level for their age). This law wants to treat children as property instead of people.
It's only because they build up these crazy strawmen and say that sexual education are drag shows or teachers "transing" kids or whatever. The only way they win these discussions is by outright lying and pretending things that don't happen are real.

Back in the 1970s SCOTUS decided attempts to limit campaign funding by corporations a violation and De Santis is championing another attempt to restrict their freedom of expression
Their strategy right now is primarily to let other people fire lawsuits. Their reaction to the attempt to flat out dissolve Reedy Creek was "so, since there is no plan to pay for the debt we're gonna ignore this," which put the ball firmly in DeSantis court. They appear have decided the recipie for victory is to let DeSantis keep talking
Its important to note that Disney got the Reedy Creek Development District not directly for their theme park. Walt Disney World (park) is shoved in the farthest corner as it was simply a condition to get funding for the entire property (banks, investors, etc). The original goal for Disney, was EPCOT, or as it was known, the Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow. So yes, while it might seem like a bit odd for a theme park to have supreme municipal power, that was what it was for: a city. Look up the "1966 Disney EPCOT film" for more, its a pretty fascinating look into what was quite literally Walt's last dream.
Which is why there are 2 cities within RCID: Bay Lake and Lake Buena Vista. Bay Lake has most of the parks and LBV has the hotels, restaurants, Downton Disney, etc.

What’s really funny is that Disney did this in an open meeting where public notice was given of the meeting.

It's kind of impressive how staggeringly incompetent they can be at times. It'd be like if during the siege of Constantinople when the Ottomans found an opened gate, instead of walking through it they bricked it up and went "Ha! Now they're trapped!"

The odd thing here is that rhetorical trick had nothing to do with legislation. "Rules" in that phrase isn't referencing "laws". Instead, it's a bizarre appeal to authority to sidestep the need to defend her flawed logic. She lays out a bit of argumentation resting upon flawed assumptions and narrowed views (akin to false dichotomies or not considering all possibilities) and then suggests Democrats are trapped by this logic... The "rules" she refers to is logic itself.
Thinking about it would require them to care. They don't. They know they can spew whatever bs they want and voters will keep reelecting them.

This swiftly falls apart when you start subbing in things and cases that they ostensibly both support, the salient ones applying as "If you're against gun control legislation, then you support children being shot dead in classrooms", which, I assume, is a much more serious issue.
She cannot possibly hold the views she has presented sincerely. It has to be a cynical virtue signal, because the alternative is that someone is sucking up a salary at the taxpayers' expense while being less qualified than a university undergraduate.

Also in a lot of these states it's legal to marry a child as long as you have their parents permission. Republics support this.
You also have Republicans arguing that allowing a child to be trans or to attend a Drag Queen Story Hour is sexualizing the child, but marrying 12 year olds to 30-50 year old men is perfectly fine.
I find it hilarious, that DeSantis and his pals knew Disney was going to try something, knew how Florida's laws worked and completely failed to look for publicly posted notices about said meeting
My personally preferred version is that there is somebody somewhere in the lower echelons of government who is tasked with checking out for such stuff and did see the notice - and decided not to bring it to superiors' attention. Heroes are everywhere.
Dipsantis is full of his self that he never even considered that maybe "You don't f with the Mouse™©®" is a well known phrase for a reason.
Your problem is assuming that they knew how their own state's laws worked

wanted to be the ruler of his own planned community, to be named EPCOT. Not the EPCOT we have today, but an actual community that would have had residents. It was supposed to be a community that would be well ahead of the rest of the world technologically, and Disney himself planned to micromanage it. It was a pipe dream, but Disney was fiercely proud of it and believed it could be his legacy.

@@almostfm Yes. But the premise by OP was how to make a trip to Disney Land tax deductible. While doing it too take footage is legitimate, if you add on activities on top of that to take advantage of the trip then you're onto more shaky grounds.
I am 100% here for Disney making DeSantis' life difficult. I cannot stand the man, so this brings me great joy. There's so much Disney needs to roast over a fire for, but thumb's up on this.

Disney no longer has control over the district, the RCID has been replaced with the CFTOD, their royal clause was struck down in July and was only a delay tactic, Disney withdrew all but one of their federal cases which will most likely be dismissed post audit of the RCID, thus leading to only state cases which legal experts have claimed they will lose as the audit is now evidence, oh and Disney has to pay all the backed taxes. So ya, Ron won.

I've said it before, I'll say it again - Disney has the money to just "get rid of" Ron and cover it up if they really wanted to.
I wouldn't be so confident about that. The investigation of the death of a state governor would be carried out very thouroughly, Disney would need every person involved to keep quiet about their involvement (if the person who actually did it is caught, they may be given an offer involving betraying whoever hired them), and if they screw up opsec, quantum computers may end up retroactively revealing their communications on that matter.
They have the money to maybe get away with it. I don't think they can do so with anything resembling certainty.

Depends. Some states make it unconstitutional to pass laws targeted at a specific individual (which might arguably include corporations) but I'm not sure if FL is one of those.

I actually find that interesting that Disney linked that to the British Royal Family because I remember watching a British documentary about castles and the host was Dan Jones, I believe, and one of the episodes was at Warwick Castle. Well at Warwick during the Civil War between the Royalists and the Parliamentarians several prisoners were held there and some of them managed to carve their names into the stones of their cells and one of these names was Disney. I think the guide even said the family was local to the area at that time. Anyway I found that quite cool.
