I’m in southern California, luckily about 20 miles from the closest fire but I know several people who’ve lost their homes and our air quality has been so bad. However we are safe and so I’m incredibly grateful, just trying to see now what we can do to help our neighbors. Thank you for this lovely video for a little escape!❤
So happy to see you visited Cokenzie house. You made our day mentioning our names in the beginning of your video! Cokenzie is so cozy and made us feel at home. We stayed at Cokenzie House back in 2018 in a cottage on the right side of the home. We loved staying there so much, being able to walk in the garden area anytime we wanted. The people were so friendly and welcoming. The ladies that ran one of the little shops inside Cokenzie house also ran the little Airbnb at the time. John Muir way is a nice area to walk around and see some neat things. We were there in April time frame and the weather really nice for us during that time. I think that Spring would be a nice time to go back stay a bit longer if you can. Glad that you were able to get into the cafe and warm up. It is a cute little cafe. The history of Cokenizie house is something worth checking out if you have not done that already. You’re right, overall there isn’t much to do there per say but there are some neat things to see that is historical. A few things we came across by accident, just exploring what we could find. One area there is an old salt mine. They have some of the machinery still there. So neat to see that and how the family lived during that time.
Thanks so much for prompting me to revisit, Stacie 🥰 despite the cold, I really enjoyed myself! And thanks for the tips for my next visit, will definitely look up the history of Cockenzie House.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful little outing with us (and braving the icy weather)! Whenever I see someone in public speaking into their device, I assume they're on facetime - I don't think you need to be embarrassed 😅 I hope you and your family have a wonderful and healthy new year!
Hi Shawna! Lovely vlog as always! I recently visited Stow, thanks to your vlog a few months back haha. I loved it! There still was snow and it was very vibey so thank you! Ps: I also think of Snow On the beach anytime there's frost on the beach haha
That’s made me so happy!!! I’m thrilled you liked it as I was a little worried there wouldn’t be enough for people to do and they might be disappointed but I thoroughly enjoyed my visit and want to revisit soon! It would be amazing to see it in the snow ⛄️
A lovely place indeed. My oldest brother used to live in Seton Mill which is about a mile or so walk up the road from Port Seton. Also nearby is Seton Castle (now a posh hotel by the looks of it) and Seton Collegiate Church which belongs to Historic Scotland. A little further away is the site (and associated monuments) of the Battle of Prestonpans where Johnny Cope was routed by the Jacobite army. Plenty of history in that area!
We discovered Cockenzie last year and have been back a couple of times. That cafe has a roof terrace which is beautiful in the sun, and a log burner which you'd have been grateful for! We love to get out and explore the rook pools. However, we missed the charity shop so will check that out. The locals are so friendly and say hello on the way past. So lovely to get out of town to somewhere peaceful.
You are brave venturing out on such a cold day. When we lived in Trinity we always headed off to East Lothian for days out stopping off sometimes in Cockenzie, was always pleasant.
Happy New Year from Germany and thank you so much for the lovely videos from Scotland. It's like a little holiday to watch them.....and would you be so kind to check, if the lovely tearooms or restaurants you visit have anything glutenfree. We'd like to visit some of your recommended places next time xx😊
Thank you so much for your lovely comment! I will absolutely try to check which cafes are GF friendly (a few of my friends are gluten intolerant so I often try to make a note for them too). I actually visited a really good cafe recently which was GF friendly called Honeycomb Tearoom (near Haymarket station in Edinburgh) 🩷
Thank you Shawna for exploring while freezing :( bless the sun for shining! Walked up Arthur's Seat when visiting in 2001... beautiful :) Enjoying your walkabouts!
Thanks so much for watching, Bonnie! At least it was an incredibly beautiful day, made the cold worth it 😂 I’m so glad you got the opportunity to walk up Arthur’s Seat, such amazing views!
HNY….Another lovey Video Shawna…we were in Edinburgh for the Xmas markets…couple of lovely cafes for you to try Cowan & Sons in Stockbridge and Undercroft cafe George St. look forward to the next video
Thanks for the video. The boating pond you feature in your vlog is very popular with free swimmers and the Royal British Legion beside it featured in the film The Railwayman. Harry Styles video for his song Adore you is also shot at Cockenzie. For those who like walking a walk from Cockenzie House up the Sandy Walk to Seton Castle along the coast to Gosford House in Longniddry is really nice.
Thanks so much for the info! I think when my mum and I visited, there were a couple swimmers which was very impressive as it was a fairly cold day too. And that is an AMAZING fun fact! I had to rewatch the music video to see if I could recognise Cockenzie and I think I spotted it!
Oh that’s interesting!! I wonder when Cafe Filly took over 🤔 I’m sad to have missed out on the amazing bread! It wasn’t Falko was it? I know there’s a German bakery by that name in Haddington, maybe they moved there?
Wishing you & your family happy wishes this coming Chinese New Year Praying for all the lives also at Gaza, Lebanon and other more afflicted areas around the world not widely reported by the mainstream media as well 🙏🙏
I find it interesting that you get embarrassed seen filming, every day i pass tourists etc filming / vlogging and dont give them a second thought. Have a great week , hopefully it will be less chilly.
Haha I’m definitely more comfortable if I’m actually a tourist (like if I was filming in London etc) but I just feel like a big dafty doing it in public in Scotland 😂
@@ShawnaExplores Get yourself one of those touristy tartan hats ,they wont suspect you are a fake tourist and you can film away to your hearts content , sorted.

It’s been incredibly sad to watch clips online of the devastation but I’m really glad you and your family are safe 🩷
Great to see you shining a light on areas like this. It's where my Dad lives and where my mum grew up.
What a lovely area to grow up in! Thanks for watching 😊

A thin line between being brave and a bit daft I think 😂 it was very beautiful though! Ps Trinity is such a lovely neighbourhood to live in!

Last time I went to that cafe it was a German restaurant and sold the most yummy bread....I forget what it was called
Oh that’s interesting!! I wonder when Cafe Filly took over 🤔 I’m sad to have missed out on the amazing bread! It wasn’t Falko was it? I know there’s a German bakery by that name in Haddington, maybe they moved there?
