@colethecornstar a word of advice from a contractor. With the scope of work you’re doing you might want to do a safe room next to the movie theater. Steel door or a safe door and instead of wood framing, pour concrete with the door anchored in. You’re out in the country but a room for family to hide in and/or have your guns, documents, family heirlooms etc. might as well while you’re down there.
Seek the help of a sound engineer, in a sound room you want no walls parallel to each other, so yes the rough stone wall is good and will make a great feature. If you do have parallel walls, things like stretched canvas wall hangings, paintings, printed canvas can deaden a room but make them big, floor to ceiling and as wide as is high. Go to a movie theater and have a look at the engineering of the rooms.
With respect to all those people who are asking Cole to be quieter, find the volume button and turn it down. I love his enthusiasm that makes him who he is and has been since he started this channel which I and most others enjoy about it. Cole you keep doing you every day of your entire life. Don't hear anyone complaing about D.C. being loud do ya?❤❤❤
Agree!!! This is a part of Coles video style, the guy has grown his channel to 620,000 in just a few years I say don't fix what isn't broken. This is HIS style that he has used for years and it WORKS. I use earbuds exclusively not once have I ever needed to adjust the volume for his videos coming from another video I might have been watching. I really hope that Cole does not try to change his style for the vocal minority, and remembers that his videos are getting 200,000-500,000 views...a hundred people telling him to "stop Shouting" are NOT by any stretch of the imagination the majority but rather the very vocal tiny minority. And for those who say turning down the volume doesn't work because then when someone else speaks they have to turn it up again, well 99% of the speaking in Coles videos...is him.
Dirt perfect just had that issue a couple months ago.had to dig up a bunch of drain tile all the way back to the dry well, where Aaron found a well rotted possum. Peee yeeww!
I don't know if you are 100% complete back filling the tile to the creek... but this would be a perfect time to move your tank farther from your house. And on top of that... copper isn't great to be directly buried in the dirt. I would run a 2" pvc chase down a ways with the tile and run a new copper gas line.
Thanks for not yelling all the time, you have a good mic that picks up sound very well. Great progress, and as usual, you don't know what a job is until you get into it!!!!
seriously...of all the TH-cams i watch this channel has THE BEST AND LOUDEST audio. i always have to turn the volume down. i get that they are frequently trying to talk over the loud machines and work, both on an off the camera, but sometimes the yelling is a bit much. i want to reach through the screen and say "it's ok cole, you can use your indoor voice now". hahaha
@@sherilynl4038 I have watched every one of Cole's videos from his very first video, not once did I ever think he was loud of "yelling". Are you 5:35 going to put some sort of grill on the end of this drainage pipe to keep the little critters from going into it and living there, plugging the pipe with nests, etc.? What about flood waters rising and flooding into your basement area?
Both are going to happen. You cannot gravity drain a foundation... it really is best to pump the water out , up to grade, then to the creek or tile.. sounds stupid, but prevents both occurences.
@cathiwim the same thing as if you had a gravity drain, only you have a way to mitigate the damage.....and no rodents, snakes, or other under slab residents
@ColeTheCornstar You could build a frame/wall for your exposed wall and make a big tempered glass wall and add lighting to it.. would keep it cleaner and safer for the kids. And an awesome feature to look at your families history.
That would look great... But it would be absolutely terrible for the theater's acoustics. Maybe just a small window or two into the wall, instead of the whole wall.

This is one of the things about ur channel that made u unique and kept my attention to become a subscriber. Love it! Love that u do thorough research and how honest u are you
Cole, before backfilling I'd make sure and grade check every 10 feet or so the entire length of the trench and verify its all downhill to the creek. Also, I'd highly suggest a few lines of perferated tile under the basement floor (theatre area) and connect to the tile in the trench. Also a must is a backflow preventer at the creek end of your tile and a critter guard. Other than those items, carry on.
As long as the beginning of the drainage tile is higher than the rest of the tile, the water will flow, even if there are spots that are a little higher or lower than the 1% grade.
Roman is a beast. The wall is amazing, I vote for leaving the wall so everyone in the future will see how your home was built originally. And the improvements you have made sense. Looks like more perforated pipe is going to be in your near future.
Very good! May I suggest a precast end for your tile with wings and that you shutter the back wall, insert a rebar sheet, and concrete. You can then put a stud wall. You will need acoustic panels in the room. Slabs of rippled foam covered in fabric. We recently had an acoustic engineer in at the public hall where I work to do this and now the sound is great! Regards, Stephen.
Be careful with your computer sitting on top of the microwave, there's a pretty good size magnet in the microwave. Another great video. You've been blessed with great friends.
Cole, I’d form and add 4 inches of concrete and some rebar to the rough side of your foundation walls where they will be “exposed” to the construction of the movie theater. That rubble will deteriorate over time as it oxidizes rather than being buried as it was before. Keep going!
personally as a Mom, I would NOT want that really rough wall exposed in a room where the littles are definitely going to be spending lots of time. Just an accident waiting to happen, even though Roman was able to get some of the sharper edges broken off, just one big push between two rough-housing brother and someone is going to the hospital. if it were me, this would be absolutely covered up.
Roman is so talented that when he said he was going to play sculptor jackhammering the wall, I half expected to see a miniature Mount Rushmore when he was finished! Seriously, is there anything that guy can't do?!
I dug ditches years on end...thats easy digging , frozen wet clay with straw stomped into it will take the test of you...broke several mattoxs and wore out a few shovels. My favorite shovels were steel handle , light , fast, and tough. Nothing like throwing a spud bar into the ground as hard as you can and watch it just shiver.
I been watching your videos since you start removing all the junk (metal , steel and old equipment). I really enjoy the process and know the restoration is very tasking to get it done. Also thanks to Roman and Ron doing a great job. Where is Justin?
I know a passive system of drains is simple and least expensive, but for the amount of water you are seeing I think a proactive approach is needed. 2 or 3 sump pumps would not come amiss. And they could drain into your leech field that you already have in place.
you will need perc test for leach field plus probably digging all around the house - adding sand and gravel would be a help - leave everything exposed so you can do an allround inspection and get alt opinions besides just you and ronco, think about finishing all plumbing too then you can move on and pour, you want it perfect; the rest of the job will be comparatively easier. you should shoot grades and then shoot again - double check your work. Roman definitely reached another level of excellence with the work done on the stones. It was absolutely perfect!! You are lucky to have him on your team.
I love the work here! Given the length of run on your drain, I would consider using an 8” or 10” PVC culvert bs the 4” line. I have replaced several 4” lines that frost has broken up or collapsed. You will also greatly reduce the likelihood of frozen lines in the spring.

I'm envisioning a red carpet grand opening of the Cornstar Underground Theater. All the family members of every contributing building individual attending in star-studded apparel/fashion. Then all the "builders" poised for a picture that's framed like a movie poster at the entrance...for prosperity 🎉🎉🎉
Hi Cole, be sure to put wire screening around the discharge opening that will be in the stream / creek. many years ago we had a similar scenario and a ground hog came in our basement!! I rat can get in a 1" hole and a mouse can get in a 1/2" hole!!!
Oh Cole, you wonderful sweet young man. It was so easy to listen to you today! I was not about to complain on here because I love what you are doing so much, but you dialed it down a notch today, and that made listening so enjoyable. But I know it's exciting when you get the water running or some other problem solved, so sometimes it is going to come through in your voice. Again, thank you. You came across beautifully today.
Wowzer!! Head spinning!! Way over my head all your explaining. But it doesn’t matter. You know what is going on and are on top of it. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏. Go team crazy contractors!!
Love the idea of keeping the rocks at the back of the theatre. But the theatre must function so if they have to be covered to prevent sound issues then so be it.
@Cole The Cornstar If you decide to keep the foundation wall showing you should coat it with a clear epoxy resin. Acoustic impact will be minimal because it will be the only surface in the room like that. (no other thing to echo off of)
What gets me here is that instead of digging this enormous trench in the ground and dealing with all these issues, all that time and effort could have been spent putting real quality soundproofing in the attic space to make an amazing theater in much less time. Added bonus, your family could be moved out of your parent's house and in their own home before the year end. This project is just taking up time and resources.
Yep, looks like an underground natural spring to me. Good luck and I would ask an expert as to how to relocate the water. Maybe where it is coming out "down stream" dig yourself a deeper, bigger hole to make a pond for fishing and/or swimming. When it happens to overflow just put a pipe from the pond to the stream, thus keeping the stream going.
Hey Cole. If you are going to keep the stone wall for decor it may pay to put a clear coating over it to seal it up and keep the moisture out of the underground movie theatre 🎥
I had this idea since you guys revealed the wall and the idea of a movie theatre. Leave the rock and give it a border with wood and then put LED lights behind the wood to light up the rock face. For ambient lighting. Hope you read this cole!!!!!!
That sounds like a great idea to leave the rock exposed on the backside of the underground movie theater. After it's all cleaned out maybe you could spray it with something that will waterproof it and make it look a little shiny like polished rocks. It would make a great conversation piece and show how they originally built it.
If i might make a suggestion, If you keep the rock wall in the background of the room put a plaque on there with everyone's names on it who had a hand in building the place and the date. Might make a nice show piece for the room, just a suggestion. always good in 30 years to reflect back on and for your kids to remind them.
I think the exposed wall would be awesome for the Underground Movie Theatre. And, while I'm not an expert, the rock may be just fine in relation to acoustics. A quick Google search told me a lot of stone has sound absorption (vs reflection) properties. Could actually wind up being the BEST solution possible.
Hey Cole, Does That Shovel Use Diesel, Or Gas??? Roman, Brother What A "GREAT" Jack-Of-All-Trades, Dude You Know Everything About Everything Construction Site Work!! Both You GUY'S "ROCK"!!! Keep Up The Good Work! Later!
Hey Cole, I might have an idea for you. So at the stage where the dirt pile was in the start of the last video, I would have put Top Soil on it and made a vegtable garden, I think that could be a nice landscape feature. But the pile got really big now and I dont know how much you and your family are into gardening vegtables.
Hope not to invasive a question, but does your revenue from TH-cam cover the cost of remodeling this $7,000 mansion? I have no idea why I look forward to each video, but it’s totally captivating! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Cole you need to put in multiple drain fields under the movie theatre area something along the lines of a French drain and connect them all to your main drain field line.
Can I suggest that you consider using an epoxy coating to highlight the wall because it is so beautiful and it will add to the acoustic properties of the theatre especially because you are stepping down. Use some acrylic panels to enclose the foundation rocks and then add led lighting then fill the space inside the acrylic form work and that would be amazing you ehould talk to total boat about the concept and see if you can get them to sponsor the priject. I would be happy to talk to them on your behalf. Looking forward to the next installment of the $7000 house. Stay safe J.
For echo control in underground theater you can add sound proofing on other surfaces and keep the aesthetics of the rock wall. Also pressure washing that wall would likely remove 95+% of the dirt if not all you care to remove
Reminds me of the verse of the song of being in the Army: "You'll never get rich while digging a ditch! " Cole + Roman + + Ron +Juston = Cole's army (Cedric behind the scenes.)
Diffusion is exactly what you want on the back wall. The rock may or may not be all that effective but it looks cool. If you put up a wall, you're going to want to build or buy some sort of diffusion panels for that wall. Personally, I love the look of Skyline style diffusers and you can make them with just a saw, some glue, and time. They're super heavy though, which is something to take into account in the decision stage.

Another awesome update!
I had this idea since you guys revealed the wall and the idea of a movie theatre. Leave the rock and give it a border with wood and then put LED lights behind the wood to light up the rock face. For ambient lighting. Hope you read this cole!!!!!!
Hard to believe I've been watching you nearly 5 years.
That sounds like a great idea to leave the rock exposed on the backside of the underground movie theater.
After it's all cleaned out maybe you could spray it with something that will waterproof it and make it look a little shiny like polished rocks. It would make a great conversation piece and show how they originally built it.
Great work Ron Cole and Roman Coming along Nicely
When I started watching this channel 6 years ago I never thought we’d get to the day where you would sell me life insurance.
Cole Hot sauce????
Roman is one in a million! I hope he is being paid well!
Hurah for Ron, job well done quickly, ps Roman is a Super keeper!
Loved the old intro.
Hello from Siesta Key Florida
Don’t forget to put a storm water check valve on the drain pipe, too prevent water too run back under your house when there’s a flood in your creek.
Later!
for the sound problem look into sound dampening foam so that you can dampen any echos
Thank you for less yelling, much better.
Hope not to invasive a question, but does your revenue from TH-cam cover the cost of remodeling this $7,000 mansion?
I have no idea why I look forward to each video, but it’s totally captivating! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Looking great cole
Awesome video and once you find out out how to fix that water flow, your basement is gonna be coming together quickly…..I imagine.
I can not believe this much work is being put into a home movie theater. 🙃 Fun to watch but geez !!
Will be a nice movie theatre for your family
Awesome video guys. Thank you very much. Roman is the MAN
I have to say that I'm impressed with the structural integrity of that 100 year old foundation.
4:39 wo wo wo Cole. TMI that’s what mirrors are for
😂
Love your project and your personalities. As a housekeeper I would advise you to cover that rock. It's a nightmare to keep clean.
Thanks. Fun watching and also glad I’m not in the ditch.
Ur channel never disappoints, good job!
