Watching interviews from a few years ago you can see how much she's come out of her shell. She was much quieter and reserved in interviews before.

I hate when people talk about their content like they're embarrassed about it. Seeing Rebecca get so hyped about her awesome creations is so fun and refreshing.
Pardon my tardiness, but why? That's actually a very bad sign. Turns out Steven Universe is a show about fandom culture made for fandom culture. Seriously, she confirmed that in a reddit AMA.
4 years ago I had just found the show and absolutely loved it.
The show has now concluded and it went downhill fast towards the end.
I completely forgot about ever making this comment or watching this interview lol
Rebecca Sugar's character development is one of the best I've seen!
Spoiler alert: it was all a lie. She's still the same edo-pay she was years ago.
When she talks about how she felt ashamed being a girl watching Boy TV shows, that hit hard with me because when i was growing up I was in an all female household because my father was divorced from my mother. So growing with with all women most of my life allot of my notions on gender standards were different at times. I wanted to play with Polly Pocket Playsets, or Barbie Dolls. I rarely had a boy's toy until my father took us to the toy store when we visited him ad offered to get us each a toy. My sister caitlin went to the sports section and chose a basketball, my sister jesi chose a coloring book and I wanted a barbie. Before then I had never seen my father so upset with me. He told me I had to go to the boy section and if i didn't pick out a boy's toy I would be grounded. But i wanted the barbie, so dad told me i was grounded and I cried as we left the store not knowing why I was being punished for wanting to play with a toy i liked growing up with. That was my first time being shamed for not adhering to the stereotypes of my gender at the time. And it changed me because i didn't want to be punished again so whenever i was around my father I had to act like a typical boy, that was the first time i ever had to hide who i truly was and i was only 6 or 7 years old then.

I feel like parents want to project how they want their kids to be and in the end it stifles how the child FEELS . Punishing (anyone not only a kid) for wanting to express themselves is just ignorant . I feel for you and I wish you the best.

GiddyGabbyZak She's so passionate about EVERYTHING now. Her art, her status as a woman, her status as a bi woman. Rebecca Sugar, for my money, is a revolutionary...and I thought this the other day. Her most subversive act with SU is not that she's representing all these different lifestyles and giving credence, and life, and legitimacy to them (as if they weren't already legitimate in the first place) even though her work on this show will go A LOOOOOONG way towards that fight, but it's how optimistic, and joyful the show is about the human condition. And how everything can be solved by love and understanding. In a world where Batman and Superman have been turned into murderers, we need something in the canon of pop culture that tells us, almost screams to us that nobody is a lost cause. Nobody is irredeemable. Because human beings aren't that simple, and neither are her characters. Tell me, guys and gals, is there a character on the show you just outright hate? I mean, I can't find one, personally. Of course I like some more than others, but I love them all, because they're all 3 dimensional, with their own loves and fears and lives and emotions. Steven Universe, in my humble opinion, is the greatest cartoon of the last 20 years. Simply because it's a great cartoon, yet so much more....
c dean I love it for that as well :). I love how real and fleshed out the characters feel. I love the positive messages the show portrays. I also love that violence isn't the go to for solving problems even though fighting and conflict is prevalent. There isn't a lot of shows that say to use words instead of fists, I never seen a show where gender isn't inherently important and this is one of the first that challenges you to look at yourself and admit to yourself who you really are.

agh rebecca sugar is just gifted. creating a show like steven universe has taught me many things emotionally and pretty sure did to a lot of other people as well. "love like you" is such an amazing track, the lyrics are so sweet and it sometimes makes me want to cry out of gratefulness because of the people i've been with in my life. i think steven universe is a perfect show for people who are insecure and are doubting many things, it teaches you to be brave and confident. much love. xo

It happens. The press table is very stressful and you have to really be pushy to get a question when you're sharing with 6-7 people and you're given 15 minutes. Sometimes people mess up!
Plus the episode Mr.Greg got nominated and let's hope it wins fingers crossed, and we are up against real competition
