    I recall riding east from Cleveland on the NYC in the dead of biter winter and lying in bed in my sleeper and watching the trains on the NKP (N&W) and being glad to be warm and comfortable, we have lost so much. Thanks for uploading this

    Thank you for sharing…the video part of your Uncle Kenny is my favorite. I visit Webster Junction frequently and your Uncles video really helps to show what it use to be like there…the B&A branch off to Webster is awesome to see back then too. Would love to see more of Webster Jct if you have any.

    I'm glad you were able to save these old films and transfer them to video. I lived near the NKP ROW in Lakewood during the 50's. My brother and I were able to see all the great NKP steam sill in full flower, including the Berkshires pounding the fast freight down the double track through Lakewood. We used to go to Wings Hobby Shop every Saturday after our paper route, get a nickel Coke and a nickel bag of chips, check for the latest magazines and catalogs, then go down to the tracks to watch trains. Now, it's a single track with very few trains a day, the Nickel Plate is gone, Wings is gone, nickel Cokes and chips are gone, and the steam engines are gone. I've lived this long to watch everything I knew vanish.

      These are RS32's. NYC did not own any RS27's.

    Glad you enjoyed the films. This pretty much represents the best stuff but there are more 8mm films I have yet to transfer to video but much of the railroad stuff is tourist lines. I will sure look for more Cleveland area films. I hope to get more posted soon! Thanks for commenting...

    Great footage. At 07:35, C-Liner + Erie-Built = rarity squared!

    I remember Willoughby (east of Collinwood yards) being a great spot where the NYC and NKP ran parallel all the way to Buffalo.

    WoW!!! used to cut school to watch the trains by Eddy Rd. around the 60's great shot of the memorial shoreway, and what looks like the EB ramp to Eddy,looks like the engines are heading west towards downtown

      @gmpullman  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Carl Covington I lived on Eddy Rd. until about 1963. It was a favorite spot of mine, too. Along with the stairway off the E. 152nd. St. bridge that led to Collinwood Yards.

    I believe the days of the railroad owned and operated wreckers ended long ago. They now call outside contractors to do the job.

    • @northeasternrailfanningpro5854
      @northeasternrailfanningpro5854 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cats01 why is that now ??

    • @cats0182
      @cats0182 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably because it's cheaper to do it that way. No equipment to maintain for limited use. No continuing labor costs.

      And the heavy liability and high injury rate are someone else’s problem.

    Anyone know what mile those signals were at in Mentor at 4:40?

    • @gmpullman
      @gmpullman  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      My recollection is that it is MP. 158 about 1/2 mile west of the Reynolds Road crossing. The underpass (SR 306) had not yet opened. There is still a signal at this location.

    • @boomer8806
      @boomer8806 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I thought it was about where 306 is, which is 162 now, but the actual location is where I wanted to verify. Thanks!
