First Annual WOLF HUNT

- Roman joined for our first annual wolf hunt. We were learning on the fly and clearly still have a lot to learn. We cut tracks, heard wolves howling, but couldn’t get eyes on where they actually were.
In my opinion, predator management is something that every hunter needs to be a part of. A lot of people will voice their frustrations about elk and deer numbers not being what they used to, yet they aren’t putting work in to manage predators. For us to be true stewards of wildlife and effective conservationists, we need to do our part with predators.
As always, I love to learn and would encourage any tips and tactics to be shared below. 👇
DO NOT GIVE UP ,,, YOUR CLOSE ,,,CLOSER THAN A LOT OF PEOPLE…
I know a lot of people are going to hate this but dog barking will always bring them running,,, they just hate dogs and can’t resist them
I have heard that too! I know houndsmen up here that have lost hounds from wolves and won’t run their dogs if they come across wolf tracks.
@@oehleroutdoors if you can big dog bark then not so loud little dog return bark for 3 minutes,,,bark bark bark then go silent n glass for at least 30 minutes… if you think your on them or that they are close try to get high on a 3 way canyon meet ,,, where 3 canyons come together…Most of all trust in yourself,,, how you feel about even little things ,,, trust your instincts…. Remember that it’s hunting ,,, not shooting …. It will happen for you ,,, just don’t give up … the longer it takes ,,, if your honesty putting in the work …when it dose happen,,,it will be one for the books ,,, possibly hit wolf gold n can more than one… good luck bro
@@billysarabia5055I appreciate that! Thank you for the tips and I’ll definitely keep after it!
Also if you get one or two ,,,I’d really like to know about it,,,also that first howl was fricking great….
I’ll be sure to share it if I get one down! Thanks again 👊
Good stuff have fun thanks for sharing
Thank you! 🙌
Why not a calf moose call? I've seen it before and worked very well.
That’s great to know! We do have some moose in the area, but definitely not as common as deer or elk. I’ve learned to try to resemble prey in the area which is why I defaulted to a fawn distress, but I’ve also had a pack respond to calf calls. Definitely hoping to find what works!
You tried. Beats the heck out of sitting on the couch.
Absolutely! I’m always thankful for time spent outdoors and for another chance to learn. 🙌
🎺🔊😅
😂😂 absolutely! I’m pretty sure I got worse at “howling” as the trip went on. Definitely more practice needed in that regard!
