      +Casey Weaver Maybe you have no idea how hard it is to consistently produce videos like this. I have experience with it, and unless you have a very large budget, and unlimited time, it's much MUCH harder than simply sticking a go pro in the cabin. Wouldn't you agree, TheSmokingTire?

    • @ftffighter
      @ftffighter 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +KingPNW True, TheSmokingTire said in a comment on another newer one take that it costed way too much money to do a high quality shoot like this and was losing way too much money in each video. We should cherish these! I don't think they are going to do it again at least for a little while unless they decide to do some kind of special.

      @BrawndoQC 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      KingPNW Was weird at first, but I love it. You lose a bit of "finesse" and you gotta be careful cause they are tail happy cars compared to a quattro that you can literally slam the gas under rain doing a u-turn, a big no-no with the pony cars. But I do not regret my move at all. And I was happy as well to lose the "smug" feel of Audi. I've received more compliments on the Mustang in a few months than my S/RS5 in 4 years of ownership. The new Camaro is great, love the active exhaust.

      @curethesmiths 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +KingPNW I did the same. I went from a 2014 RS5 to a 2105 GT Manual. The RS5 is fine but my wife was able to drive it at any speed and it was a bit boring. The mustang I get more thumbs up everywhere, it feels more raw, and I love being in control of the car (even if it feels like I'm out of control). Also my wife is afraid of it. haha I drove the Camaro SS and wow! It doesn't look at good as the mustang IMO and the mustang interior is better but driving/performance wise the Camaro kills it.

      I had an E92 M3 as my daily. Found it a bit numb to drive, just a bit too clinical, so tried the RS5 immediately after driving mine 80 miles.
      The difference was night and day. Where the BMW felt lively and nimble despite its weight, the RS5 felt slow and heavy in comparison, the suspension was way too hard in dynamic and in comfort it literally bounced down the road (optional 20" rotar alloys).
      It's a gorgeous looking car for sure, and it has the better interior and a huge boot, but it's just not worth the money - the M3 is the far superior car in terms of handling and all round performance.
      C63? Well....I'm off to look at one soon :)

      Giles Hinton I drove a friends e92 and I loved it, that being said I know nothing about how the rs5 drives. Correct me if I’m wrong but I think the audi is AWD compared to the RWD of the bmw which kinda explains the “fun” factor people always talk about. In terms of performance, personally I think statements are highly subjective because I see no real difference

    The M3 and RS5 have more of an "advanced" feel to them. Dual clutch transmissions, adjustable everything, lots of leather and carbon, etc. The Boss is raw. It's like a refined, modern NASCAR. It sounds like the end of the world, and it's fast because you make it fast, not because the electronics are smart enough to keep you from crashing. If I had to own one, I'd have the RS5. If I had one day left to live, I'd spend it in the Boss.

  • @FK-wp3ig
    @FK-wp3ig 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    In my opinion the RS5 is better than the M3 because nobody lives on a race track. I have never heard an M3 sound as good as an RS5 and the RS5 is not as common as an M3 or C63. A car like this will make you stand out from the crowd and everytime you upshift or downshift the sound it makes, makes everything worth while.

      BoredLikeHelI don't use modification for an excuse... it the same basic bones. If a 300 C won then that's a sad indictment against the competition. The FACT is this car beat out competition 2 years in a row that included many M3's and C63's while there were only 3 RS5's

      Amidat Yeah but look at how much money Audi throws into motorsports in order to be able to push their cars to the market. It is obvious, that if a company doesn't just want to take part and be seen, but actually needs to win and has the finance, they can make such a one-off car, that will beat anything. (see ClassB history).

    • @Amidat
      @Amidat 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      waclosh so explain to me which car company who races doesn't spend huge money???? That's what racing is about. That said - most racing teams are private. Only the big series like Le Mans and F1 are truly factory teams.

    By actually driven the RS5 last summer, I can assure you that it is not fake and sounds even more glorious live in car. The video might sound a tad more growling than the tone actually is but it gives you goose bumps nonetheless! At least I was quite surprised with the level of sound Audi allowed the car to leave from the factory.

    We've asked many times if people would prefer us to video every car we get, even if the video won't be as good, or if they would rather us make much fewer films and every film would be awesome. Overwhelmingly people said they wanted more films, even if that meant sometimes the quality isn't going to be as good. We do everything we can with the resources we have.

    that's a very good observation, and for the way most people would drive it, they would be better off with the new 4.0L TT V8. However, the "RS" models are all supposed to be track-bred, so I'm not surprised they went for the instant response of the N/A motor.

    I love mine- I was able to get one earlier this year with less than 22K miles it is pristine and all around it is a great car. I live up in Santa Cruz mountains so every day I drive a better road than that road which does look nice. It really is a good car even in the summer with the fog the road is super wet in the AM but I always feel confident. I leave for work around 430 5 am to get to the city and there is never any traffic so I can do a bit of hauling ass and it never lets me down. Super comfortable- It isn't as fast as others in its class but I think that is only when really hoofing it so as that it fairly rare I am fine with the speeds and comfort. The other thing is I am 6-4 and I have tons of room and it is very comfortable. If you are thinking of picking one up for for it they are great cars and rare enough to be different once in almost a year I had another RS5 next to me.

    The 2009 S5 I owned was 3700 lbs. For a $57,000 "sports coupe," 350 HP (especially when it only made 325 lb/ft of torque way up at 3500 RPM) is slightly underpowered. It's enough to have fun with but certainly doesn't feel "fast"

  • @TheSmokingTire
    @TheSmokingTire  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    There is a difference between saying one car is "dynamically better" than another car and saying it's "faster" than another car. The RS5 may be faster around a track, but a Toyota Camry V6 is faster around a track than a Miata. Doesn't mean you'd rather spend a day lapping the Camry.

    Well, living in california, I'd probably buy the C63. It makes the most torque, so it feels faster than the M3 or the RS5 down low, which is where I do most of my driving. I'm not really an M3 guy, though the car itself is excellent, I just don't see myself owning one. And because I rarely drive in bad weather, I don't need the RS5's AWD system. They are all excellent cars, but the C63 makes me smile the most. If I lived in the northeast again, I'd go RS5 all day.

I've never had the opportunity to drive one but the combination of the rarity of RS4s where I live (mine's 1 in 300 in the USA) and the brilliance of the car itself, I don't think I could ever let it go because anything else probably wouldn't live up to the experience.

    It's not misleading the viewers. We don't alter the audio at all. We put a microphone near the exhaust and that's what it sounds like. He said the S5 was a bit underpowered.
    That just boggles my mind. Putting your foot down or doing a 0-60 run in an S5 (V8) is pure savagery. It is impossible not to mutter "God almighty" or "holy f**k" after you lift off the throttle. The acceleration is brutality incarnate. In the bends, you'll chicken out before the car loses its grip.

    If you only have money (cost , insurance, maintenance, repairs) and space for one car and where you live has winter, AWD is necessary.
    This one or the S5 are pretty awesome. The new Merc C400 has such a nicer interior though. It's tough to choose the Audi interior over that one.
    I went with performance first ('13 COBB tuned stage 2 WRX STI) with some daily driver compromises. In the next couple of years I'll be ready to step up to performance and luxury.
    The STI is so much fun and so crazy and aggressive but not luxurious and super loud cruising on the highway. I wish I could keep it because it feels so mechanical and "manly", if that makes sense.

Unfortunately you have to sell your soul to own a car like this in one of the richest countries in the world. The goverment of Norway don't want you to own a proper car. I envy you americans.

    What Audi does is, make an "A" class of everything for luxury, then make an "S" class for those that want some sportiness with that luxury, and then give it to Porsche which helps make the "RS" class for pure adrenaline.

    Pretty fair assessment for an Audi. Living in Seattle, you do see a ton of Audi and other AWD/4WD cars for the same reason you mention a few times, crappy weather. After driving FWD for years, I learned the ways of Quattro, then had an FZJ80, now a 3.6 4Motion. Haldex is a different feel from my old Quattro for sure, would love to see a review of you comparing the new TT (Haldex) to the other Audi Quattro's not using Haldex.

    Hey Matt, great review. Thorough as usual. I agree with you that the car feels nose heavy under braking. The way I found to enjoy this car is to brake a little earlier and get on the power a little earlier, compared to what you would do in a rear wheel drive car. This keeps the car always on power in the bends and the TVD can give you the full advantage. Added bonus, out of bends, your exit speed is going to be higher than rear wheel drive car. Try it this way and let me know if you enjoy it.

      your full of shit I have an s5 with a chip exhaust and a few other things and its not even close to the rs5 i just bought, the only way your s5 will be remotely close is with a supercharger which is stupidly expensive and then you lose the reliability I suggest you do some research you gain minimal hp from an ecm tune so little its really not worth the cost
