Loans you take out are YOUR responsibility. Unless you take a loan out together. Then you're both responsible for it.

Agreed, what she was trying to do was wrong and she was rightfully punished for it. Did she honestly think her Parents were on her side?

I don’t know what is more messed up about the ex wife; her way of thinking of how loans work, or her taking more loans under someone else’s name?

Its not anyone's responsibility whether or not they help pay off your loans; it's a gesture of kindness if they even BOTHERED to take on your debt. Also, its illegal to take out loans without permission of the guarantor

my husband’s ex-wife had a 130,000$ debt she had before the marriage but married for only 6 months he wasn’t liable but she made a big funk in the court.
That was almost twelve years ago me and my husband have been married for ten years and it’s a wonderful life together with our children

We have a lot of idiots in current year and IRL, they DO get someone else to pay for their loans and finally, get divorce just because so, good luck I guess.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that taking out loans in someone else's name without their knowledge or permission is illegal and I'm shocked that she didn't go to jail for it. But I'm glad that the parents payed him back.

Oh, believe me, I’m no lawyer, but if her ex did charge her with financial fraud, she would’ve been in more serious trouble.
I’m assuming the only reason he didn’t is because she can’t pay off the settlement fee behind bars. And she hates working, so it’s a more suitable punishment.

Ladies and gentlemen this is why it's so INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT that you know ALLLLLLLLL of the details of your soon to be's financial situation BEFORE you get married. As well agree what your lives will look like together as far as work, family, etc. This coming from a mom of three now young adults, who told them the same thing. Also in some cases Prenups are a good idea, especially when it comes to who will pay off any existing debt incurred before marriage. My middle one is getting married next weekend, and you bet they fine combed EVERYTHING before deciding to get married, even though they have been together almost seven years already.

    *OF ALL THE NERVE!!*
I’ve never been more outraged by a person’s irresponsible sense of logic and inane stupidity!!
The student loans were made out by the wife prior to the time of her marriage therefore it’s her responsibility to pay the expenses!!
It’s one thing if she had managed to pay part of it and the husband voluntarily offered to pay the difference, but trying to make him pay for all of it while taking out additional loans under his name!!
She should consider herself lucky he didn’t take her to court on the grounds of fraud, extortion and identity theft

Funfact - The only one responsible for your debt is yourself.
Getting Married while having debt does NOT mean the responsibility of paying it back is instantly given to your partner. This lass REALLY had a bunch of screws loose.

I have a feeling her colleague was working to pay off the loan, but it was getting her nowhere, so her husband decided to help. She probably misunderstood the situation.

borrowing a loan yourself is the sole responsible to pay back, never ever pass your problems to someone else, even if i marry a wife i still got a house loan to settle not my wife but if my wife wants to help pay the loan faster, respect and appreciate her for her help by the way, im not married yet lol

"Your debts" Now she's trying psychological manipulation on him, trying to claim that it' he's debt. A student loan is on the person for good unless he told them that he was going to pay on behalf of her, but trying throw your debt onto someone with no proof that they will pay it not going to work.

Oy…I have under $6000 left in my own student loans, and I’ll pay it off myself in 18 months. I’m paying more than *three times* the minimum amount each month, I *never* paused during the pandemic, and my interest now is just under $7.00.

Loans are made to be paid by the person that took them. If someone else wants to pay for them, it’s a gift. NOT an obligation or responsibility for them.
