That sound on the guitar you're talking about is called a volume swell. And it's where you use your pinky finger to crank your volume knob all the way down or most of the way down, and then you strike the string and Achieve whatever harmonic or notes that you want to achieve, and then you bring up the volume with your pinky finger in a very Dynamic way to where you are envelope shaping it, it's like you are able to talk that way. He uses it open up the first of the two iconic solos from this song, although again, I really wish you would listen to the studio version of it to hear it, it's way more clear.
Great reaction as usual. I love the studio version to this song, but there are parts of that live version off Exit Stage Left that are just otherworldly. Lifeson was a beast!

I only subscribed to your Channel about 3 minutes ago after your reaction to Elvis If I Can Dream popped up in my feed and I watched it. I briefly looked for Elvis in playlist and didn't see any so I know there are probably more and I was too lazy to search but I will at some point. But anyway this is my second reaction to your reaction, laugh, and I love this song so much. I got turned on to these guys in junior high and I was reasonably decent musician by then. But I mostly wanted to say that I think it's great that you navigated your way towards the original studio cut because that is what they meant by it and that's what we heard on the radio and that's what we listen to on the record albums once we bought them and brought them home. And I was lucky enough to see them live a few times in their Heyday and it's just Indescribable how good they are. But I'm a firm believer in listening to the audio cut first for some of these mind-blowing bands.

Greatest band of all time lyrically and musically!!! Try driven, mission, marathon, big money, lock and key, turn the page, Animate, cut to the chase, half the world, Xanadu luve 81 ,working them angels, clock work angels, anthem, far cry, working man live in Cleveland, 2112,whole first side A Farwell to kings, hemispheres whole first side, i could go on and on and on left so many out ANY RUSH IS GOOD RUSH LOL!!! SEEN THEM 39 TIMES all 3 are virtuosos on their instruments!!!!!! Geddy sing plays bass foit pedals crazy!! Neil the greatest drummer of all time in my opinion alex masterfully plays the guitar so so so underrated!!
When that album came out, we almost didn't know what to make of that song. It wasn't anything we expected. It was rock and jazz and other things all mixed together in their first instrumental, and we never heard anything like it before. It was so great being a fan back then because it was all new and exciting and so very very different.
I saw Rush live in early 1980. La Villa Strangiato was their encore song, (Set List FM remembered this.) just as it was on the Exit Stage Left performance. Lovely to see someone enjoying it so thoroughly.

Always thrilled to see someone listen to the Exit Stage Left version. The climax of Alex’s solo on this version has a level of intensity and technical perfection I never saw or heard duplicated over many shows in person or from sound board recordings in tape trader circles. Pure perfection!

Three Masters of composition, and just sheer playing ability. I've been a fan since 1974. (Yeah, I'm old.) Alex gets overlooked someitmes when you have Geddy and Neal in the mix, but he is arguably one of the best guitarists out there. Once you go down the Rush rabbit hole, you're trapped forever. And that's a good thing.

The guitar solo in Exit Stage Left is the best that I have heard from Alex he smoked it plus they picked the tempo up in that version it is in sane how they stay in sync they are all one unit the best version they have . Rock on and peace and love to Getty and Alex from Ohio.
