This was after above knee amputation, 70 surgeries, 23 broken bones, over 1400 plus days as inpatient. 2 catastrophic accidents. The pain is so severe. Called phantom pain. I also can't be in the sun. I would give my other leg to go back and not have the pain and limitations. Long story. We are all bruised. Grass is not always greener on the other side. I hope this is a beginning of a beautiful journey 🌺 I don't normally leave comments but I felt compelled to look. I wish I could go back. This all began when I was an awesome athlete age 13 July 7 I went over my friends house to swim. She and I were headed to my home when her mom asked us if we would please return an item she had borrowed from the lady that lived in between the three houses while we really didn't know her daughter it's time well we were asked if we wanted to go help sell ice cream and one of those musical ice cream trucks it had the word jumbo on the outside it had a sliding door like a with steps like a bus but the door was like a UPS truck in the tires were or down to nothing and I heard there was a lot of play in the steering wheel and she got on i-75 car is doing 70 miles an hour and she lost control my girlfriend and I was screaming for our mom's while I was being tossed around like a pebble in a big ten and my pelvis was broken six places completely separated my right femur was busted right out through where it look like somebody took a machete right up from the center of my leg near my private area all the way down to the center of my foot with one layer hanging to the right and the other layer hang to the left eye was bleeding out in the medical corpsman stopped immediately and somehow finagled his way in anti to tourniquet well once emergency responded I kept screaming am I going to die in my going to lose my leg over and over they had tears in their eyes they didn't even know what to do oh my gosh they should have taken my legs at night but they didn't it's a long long story I was always such a fighter I still am I made the women's United States national sled hockey team paralympian team four women and also I played on a local men's hockey team I trained so hard it changed my life I had touched so many lives spending all those days in the hospital but I was so judged and I'm not playing sled hockey right now and I'm devastated I am one of the sweetest people that you can meet and what they did to me was horrible I was considered to be in the top three female athletes of sled hockey in the world up against girls that have been playing 20 years and now I'm much older than what you think you can make the day I mean the year I was married out of the year you're getting married you'll be getting married in 2019. I was married in 1991. Sled Hockey gave me my life back and it took it away. I will play again. I have regrets. It only takes one to turn your life into a mess. It's unfathomable. Truly unfathomable. I can't stand to go on Facebook with over 600 friends. Majority sled hockey players from National Teams around the world and local Teams in 🇺🇸 USA,🇨🇦 Canada. I can't bare to go on Instagram or Twitter because they are both linked to sled hockey and chronic pain. I'd give my other leg just to be back in time. I guess like The movie The Butterfly Effect🌺🦄🐥🦋 there are so many people and I don't like to make judgement but like 600 lbs and up or serial killer. Why couldn't it be them. I know that's wrong but nobody not even my parents get it. Sled hockey led to a divorce but u would need to know detail. I'm dealing with anger, regret, PTSD. There are people that make judgement when they are so far from the reality of the situation. I apologise. 40 plus my medications tried sometimes going 6 wks without any sleep. Torture, suffering. I am walking down the aisle to the love of my life in 19days to this song. It fits so perfectly. Our love story was 27 years in the making. Allow me to share “Our Love Story “
Let’s set the scene. Picture this, it’s 1991 in a small town of Collinsville Virginia. Becky has a beauty salon on Daniels Creek road where Dennis frequented for haircuts. She also is a member of Vision Assembly of God where Sharon was as well. Becky asked the young people if they would like to meet and both agreed. I will give you the shortened version.
Dennis was waiting at the salon when I arrived. There was something different from the moment our eyes met. We talked, laughed, and shared only a brief week before he was to go to basic training for the Army, but it was the best week of my life. We wrote letters back and forth for a while, each with more excitement than the one before. Then came that horrible day when I was told Dennis had been killed in a practice drill. I was devastated. Life happened and eventually we both wed others as he thought I was no longer interested, and I thought he had passed. I never felt as I had with him and couldn’t explain it.
Now is when the story gets good… On October 21,2018 at a little after 10:15pm I had fallen to my knees, broken, praying as I never had before. I literally ached inside telling God if it were his will, I would be alone but if not, only he could show me that person. This prayer was heart wrenching and felt from my soul. I heard the ping from my messenger but did not look as I was exhausted and thought it to be a forward, etc. from friends. I didn’t check my phone until I got to work the next morning and dropped my phone as if I had seen a ghost in seeing his name on my screen. (He sent the message at 10:26pm the night before, right after I had prayed.) He was surprised to discover what I was told. We talked for a little while and then met in person. I vividly remember the moment I laid eyes on him again. I was taken back to the way I felt at 18 and my heart open once again. We reconnected and although we went through trials that would have ripped most apart, we both knew this was real and all we could ever ask for and so much more.
Now we are to be wed and become one as we were meant to be. Our lives may have taken other paths, but they led us right back to one another. Thank you for sharing this moment in time with us. Never lose faith, God works in his time, not ours.
