Absolutely awesome video. You have just as much excitement for the project now as you did all those months ago. It is that excitement that fueled my fire to make it happen after the first deal got squashed. It just needed to happen. So glad you have everything you need and looking forward to seeing it all come together.

Very nice Glenn. Don't worry, I like to sit back, relax, and listen to you chat with us. Looking forward to this project. I have an OG TRF201, it was actually hard to find, didn't even get it off the bay. I asked around on Tamiyaclub (I think?) and someone there sent me to a link to one for sale in France of all places. Paid a bit much at that time, but looking at prices now (when you find them) not bad at all.
I also have an XR 201 with the XM conversion on it. It is currently in pieces spread about a bit cause I, and this is going to sound weird, have the gearbox and rear section attached to a Hornet chassis. It was a personal project of mine. Using CAD programs and a 3D printer.
Anyhoo, like you said, if you're going to race it, the 12mm conversion is a must as it opens up a world of wheels&tires for you to use. Bring on the vids :).

Also note that the XM only allows for ball diff use... The XMW has a different gear box that allows for either the ball or gear diff.

Hope you do run this car I am keen to see what it handles like is it going to be bum heavy because of all the aluminium at the back it will definitely be more planted better traction but will fly through the air better than than the stock one. A lot of breaking and throttle inputs to keep it under control in the air. Lol who cares it looks bloody nice aye 👍👍

This will be one heck of a car when you've finished with it Glenn! I totally understand the falling down the rabbit hole situations. I fell down one aged about 8 and I'm still going!! 😂 Back to being serious, I can't wait to see the finished car mate, it will be awesome! Thanks as always for all the great vids Glenn!🔥👌👍

Glenn your passion and excitement always shines and its so cool to see and what a fantastic mystery Tour you went on with this friend!
It always amazes me I think most of us tamiya old school guys including me really think we know just about most things about tamiya but we really don't lol.
I must say I don't really deal in marketplace its to messy and you have just back that up for me! what a dipstick that guy was just no need for it as common decency cost absolutely nothing!
Anyway let's keep it positive and
Glenn I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with this project it's going to be a good one!
    Cheers James.

Really?! People actually get mad because Keith wants to be a good friend?! What kind of world do we live in that being a friend is considered “taboo”…?
Keith is an awesome friend and just an absolute legend within the community. I wish more people were like him because we WANT more people to be in RC, not reject them because we want to keep the hobby to ourselves!
Anyway, I figured I’d give my two cents.
Also, shame on that guy who flaked. I’ve had a few dead end offers on Marketplace before. Lots of time wasters and just people who suck the life out of you.

Thanks for another great video Glenn. I would love to do an XM but probably looking at £2500+ for nib and that's a bit too much for me to justify on 1 buggy. Don't think the Mrs would accept me spending that sort of money on 1 rc car 😂

Looks like a great project, I can't wait to see how it comes out. I'd love to know the details for the associated hubs. I did find a few threads online but all the parts they mentioned were out of stock everywhere. I wonder if they're old bits you can't get anymore.

The "stupid reason" Tamiya used a pin rear and front imperial bearings for the wheels is because that was the industry standard at the time of the TRF201s release. 10 years ago releasing a 2wd buggy with hex drives wasn't a clever idea as any racers old wheels wouldn't fit your buggy, so copying the market dominant B4 wheel fitting gave you an advantage in attracting over B4 drivers compared to the Schumacher Cougar with a 12mm hex and Losi with 10mm hex wheels. If you've got boxes full of race wheels and tyres for your B4 it's easier to move to the Tamiya, and when you need more wheels you have plenty of third party options made for the B4 to choose from.
12mm hexes only became an industry standard for race buggies when Associated introduced the B4.2 in 2013. Losi even held out until 2017 before changing to 12m hex fronts.

Yeah I don’t touch facebook marketplace in fact I don’t have anything to do with Facebook but I keep getting friends contacting me showing me generic pictures of rc’s at dirt cheap prices that they are looking to buy I keep on saying to them “just be careful” but it falls on deaf ears😕
