I agree with you about corporate greed. That's why I've had to live without running water for 2years in a 55+ park. Corporate park owners took it upon themselves to change our original prospectus agreements so they could save money on supplying 7000 gallons of water with our monthly lot rent. They never made up the extra cost difference for mobile home owners either. Can't find a law firm to want to take on Sun Commuinities on a contingency basis.
Nobody wants contingency- there has to be a damage suit that promises big reparations. They only take easy money, no court, and quick settlement. Get a fund started and hire a shark. Otherwise you can’t win.
The opportunity we have to design affordable-to-build houses.... It's still there. We need dwellings we can have equity in. It doesn't have to be fancy if it's stable (mortgage).
so here is how that is fixed....everyone says things in china are cheap...that is because what china produces china consumes. china has very few imports. when you import everything then the cost goes way up to build. stop importing everything and go back to making things in our own country. at first it will be more expensive again, but in the long run it will become cheaper. politicians and businesses make a ton of money from investing in import companies. go look at portfolios of politicians and also blackrock and vanguard. they make billions from import deals. we once made everything we needed to build here in the states. all the manufacturing was moved overseas so now we have to pay higher prices for everything even our food. most of our food comes from out of country too. it has become ridiculous. so instead of importing everything maybe, just maybe, if we make it here like we once did, it will become affordable again. i work in the building trades.
@@dane5678 I totally get the frustration with how much we rely on imports-it’s something a lot of people are talking about. There’s definitely a strong case for bringing more manufacturing back to the U.S., especially for things we use every day. But it’s not as simple as just flipping a switch. A lot of companies moved production overseas because it was cheaper, and transitioning back would take time, investment, and a major shift in how businesses operate. You’re right that at first, it would be more expensive, and it’s hard to get companies to take that short-term hit. Plus, some industries rely on global supply chains to function, like tech and agriculture. That being said, I do think there’s a balance to be found-we don’t need to import everything. Hopefully, we’ll see more policies that support rebuilding American manufacturing while keeping costs manageable. Since you work in the building trades, I’d love to hear your thoughts-have you seen any changes in material sourcing lately, or do you think it’s getting worse?
We were planning on doing lots of home repairs this year. These tariffs are going to increase the costs of all materials. We'll have to scale back our plans.
25% tariff to Almost all materials to build a house. Most of wood comes from Canada. Example : $500,000 house X 25% + another 5% =650,000.00 Tired of Winning with Thump... hahaha, So much for the art of the Deal.....
I remember the sheetrock from China that was making people sick. Years ago when America didn't depend on foreign products so heavily, the economy was far better. I am not impressed with the quality of homes built in my neighborhood going way back before Trump was president.
@@cmackscott761 the Chinese drywall disaster was because the people who make drywall ran out and substituted it without letting builders know. We went through that in Louisiana. It was a real mess. That being said I want you to go through you home right now and see how many things are from China. You’d be shocked.
A big reason why Trump put tariffs on Canada and Mexico was more about China. China was sending their goods through Mexico and Canada to funnel through the US to avoid the 10% tariff. That’s why Trump put a 25% tariff on Canada and Mexico to deter China from doing this anymore. These tariffs are more about the long game and changing our economy to produce more goods here. I am in the printing business and we have lost business to countries like China, Malaysia, etc, because they can do it for cheap labor. We simply can’t compete with that and that is why Trump is slapping these tariffs to even things out.
Many new big homes built. But that doesn't mean they are selling. They are missing the point. We need new housing technology and innovation. Smaller cheaper higher volume homes.
Businesses and builders that can't change with the times may go out of business. So be it. Other new technology homes builders will emerge for the better

If you don't like taxes, then you shouldn't like tariffs. Tariff = tax.

Often half the cost of a house is labor. Materials are 10-20% of the cost of a new house.

Well said! If you only play the short game you lose in the long run.
Tariffs are not the way to do that, "even things out."
That’s not what Trump said recently though. He tweeted it was because of drugs and illegal immigration.
