Low key this series is pretty good outside of Ash’s writing and Iris being annoying and racist-Paul. Great pacing, great side-characters, two great TR arcs, good character developments, good animation, it’s solid for what it is
The only thing I don’t like about BW is they made Ash’s Pikachu an incredibly butt of a joke and a punching bags. Even the rest of the Ash’s Unova Pokemon too.

I think the biggest defender I would argue for this series is that.. isn't Ash like based on the creator himself in real life? So I imagine the black & white series to be like when satoshi was in America. And the cultural differences can be pretty troublesome.
I find it funny that people said that Ash's unova team suck due to his pokemon not being fully evolved or other trainers being more pragmatic have strong looking pokemon. But like.. that's a Japanese thing with these quote on quote the boonies preferring small and cute things while the ones that are big and strong or cool & edgy don't really get that much attention outside of the realistic purposes and battles, as apposed to how it works in America.
And Trip is basically American Paul.
I think the real problem with the show was that it tried to do this theme of the different satisfaction between westerners getting more wealth to be happy vs easterners needing.. something to be happy. (I've seen a video about this, but I forgot.)
I don't see Iris and Cilen as Misty and Brock clones. More like swaps of the two. Iris has Misty's role in the series, but she's native looking like Brock. And Cilen has Brock's, but has this very civilized quality that Misty would easily get along with.
Btw, that nimbasa city gym episode. Bad! But not because of the battle. But because of what caused Ash to go bad. And it's due to him planning out a strategy like his preparing for an exam on school. This isn't the Ash ketchum way, you know.
That's nice. About BW series was like Ash in America, it can be the same for other regions since the previous regions (OS,AG and DP) was like different as it's Japan since Ash was native here, like XY was like Ash in France, SM was like Ash in America and JN was Ash like England and traveller of other countries.

I don't like cilan all that much. He for the longest time to me just Brock knock off.
Unfortunately that’s because Brock was a companion for 4 journeys.
I didn't like the Gen 5 anime and I didn't even see the Gen 4 anime when I saw this. Ash becoming such an idiot which was a big issue for me. Him forgetting types in that Elesa battle was very bad too. The worst part of his downgrade for me was when Ash used his Pokedex on a Koffing which was really bad as that was James's main Pokemon in Gen 1 a Pokemon he saw in almost every episode

My opinion for the reason Ash struggled in Unova is as follows:
1. Pikachu never lost from Snivy, he was just down for a minute while Ash decided to quit the match since he was worried about Pikachu's electric moves.
2. Because of Team Rocket's less appearance, Ash couldn't battle at all because in other series Ash battles most of the time with them and that's how his Pokemons are trained.
3. Without Brock's help, Ash couldn't get support and motivation.
4. Unova League was started too early that's why Ash never got a chance to train his Pokemon.
5. Because of not most Team Rocket appearances and Pokemon Contest, episodes couldn't focus on them I mean, in other series, because of Team Rocket and Pokemon Contest, episodes were based on them and that's why it gave time Ash to get prepared for Pokemon League while in Unova, it didn't happen.
6. Ash spent most of his time in friendship and pretended to be like it's Pokemon journey that Ash would roam around anywhere like, he only came to explore places :troll:
7. The creators were worried about the Unova series reputation being at a down level so they just ran out of ideas that's why they brought Charizard back which is good but, the tension couldn't let them focus on making good content otherwise, they could've made Team Plasma story even better.
8. Everytime, Ash figures out about a new Pokemon region he plans and then goes but, in Pokemon Black And White, Ash had gone Unova without any plans that's why he struggled at the start
That does make sense...team rocket did help ash train before🎉

Honestly, I don’t think this is the worst. That dishonor goes to Journeys. At least BW, despite how it reset Ash’s Pikachu and intelligence, tried to do stuff with Unova. Journeys, while it was supposed to be a worldwide series, was mostly focused on Kanto, leaving other regions in the dust. Which sucked especially for Galar since it was the Gen 8 region and Journeys was the Gen 8 anime. The Galar Starters didn’t even appear in base form together outside of a “The World of Pokémon Segment”. And don’t get me started on the Journeys filler. TDLR, Journeys sucks, BW is better.

I actually really love this series. The only problem is how much of an unlikeable brat Ash is.
Sorry to tell you this whether you agree or not but to me Pokemon Black and White is the first worst that I ever watched, because at first I was fine with first season when Ash manage to catch more Pokemon in the Unova region than any region that he visited on his journey. However so far in the seasons he manage to get a few of his pokemon to evolve fully like Unfezant, Leavanny and Krookodile, but the others haven't had a chance to evolve way up to their fully evolved form especially Ash's Unova starter pokemon.
Although Ash's pignite did evolve once but the other two haven't in fact in the third and final Pokemon Black and White series none of Ash's Unova Pokrmon (Pignite, Snivy, Oshawott, Scraggy, Boldore and Palitoad) didn't get this chance to evolve which one of the biggest disappoint of any Pokemon anime season history.
The Unova League Vertress Conference quarter finals is a complete joke as Ash battle that amateur Cameron who is always forgetful, late and gets information wrong like the time when he though he had to earn 7 badges and used five Pokemon in a full battle in the league.
Seriously I still can't believe Ash would used Oshawott in the first match against Cameron's super powerful Hydreigon and then it was defeated easily. Which is why Ash have lost in the quarter finals because of his stupidy and bad choice of the Pokemon that he is using. I mean he could have used his old Pokemon from Professor Oak's Lab instead of using the Pokemon that he caught in the Unova Region.
It's a shame that Ash and Virgil never gotten this chance to battle each other in the Unova League because it would be very interesting if Ash has a six full battle with the Eevee evolution like Virgil's Flareon, Jolteon, Vaporeon, Umbreon, Leafeon and Sylveon (if Virgil's Eevee suddenly evolved during the battle).
What else doesn't make any sense in the first series of Pokemon Black and White is all mess up because originally Team Rocket Jessia and James were in Black uniform and even though their personalites have change from comedy trio to professional agents. But now they've gone back to to White uniform half way as well as their comedy personalitis throught the episodes that doesn't make sense at all. The same goes for the two parts episodes postones of Team Rocket VS Team Plasma that never aired since then or explain what has happen to the ancient rock they Team Rocket stole. So yeah this whole first series of Pokemon Black and White has gone down the drain.
There's also issued that's never been resolved before Pokemon Black and White Series has come to the end like:
1. We never learn why Cilan was afraid of Purrlion in the first place, despite the fact that he final explain to Ash and Iris, but the background noise and screen where cut short so we never knew since then which is a disappointed.
2. Wish to get to see Ash battle Trip in the quarter final instead will full six battle so I could the rest of Trip's team from the previous episodes.
3. I would like to see Ash's Snivy's backstory more of why she left her previous trainer in the first place or even better battle her previous trainer and evolved into Servine just Ash's Pignite then later evolved into Serperior because it's my favourite final evolved Unova Starter Pokemon.
4.I don't like "Team Rocket's Shocking Recruit" because I would liked to Ash's Snivy and Iris's Emolga finally settling their difference and end their rivalry before they departed just like Clemont's Chespin and Serena's Pancham.
5. I still wished Ash's Oshawott evolved into Dewott and then to Samurott before Pokemon Black and White Series has end just like Ash's Greninja from Pokemon XY Series. Or evolved into Dewott in Pokemon BW Rival Destinies Season Finale because from what I remembered Oshawott had a huge crush on Meloetta. And if I was the writer for this Series I could make Ash's Oshawott have evolved into Dewott happened at last as it battle against Giovanni and his minions in order to save Meloetta👍.
Zekrom took all of ash’s experience from sinnoh as well. I’ve been watching the Pokemon anime for 24 years now since I was 3 in 2000. I’m now 27 years old. I think the b/w anime is decent at least that’s what I would consider it anyway. I like some of the gym battles for ash in the b/w anime. Like clay gym battle and the ice gym battle for instance.
I’m still trying to forget a fool called Cameron in the b/w. But there are times where people remind me of him. This man thought the unovan league was in johto at least I think he said that. It’s been years since I saw the b/w anime. I still don’t like the Elesa gym battle with ash. He also forgot his snivy was a female as well in that gym battle. I still hate that gym battle years later.
Also in the anime, there are technically no levels in the anime. I still think journeys isn’t as good as the rest of the anime. But I do like his journeys team. Plus there is no counter shield in the b/w anime. I prefer ash’s sinnoh, kalos, and a little bit hoenn if you get rid of torkoal that is since your not missing much, oh and before anyone says that torkoal almost defeated reisteel, don’t you think I know that. That’s probably his only good battle.
I can’t stand ash’s torkoal in the anime. I shake my head every time that damn torkoal is on screen. Don’t even get me started on torkoal in sinnoh. I have no idea why ash would even bother with torkoal in the league against darkrai. I also like ash’s journeys team. There is a lot of moments and gym battles that I like in the anime since I’ve been watching since 2000. I know pretty much almost everything since the first episode of the anime in 2000 to now.
There’s very few episodes and seasons I’ve missed. As seasons go, I’ve only missed alola and journeys. I’ve watched Kanto, orange island, johto, hoenn, sinnoh, unova, and kalos all the way through. I know something’s of alola and journeys but I at least know ash’s teams in alola and journeys. I just have to watch those seasons all the way through. To say the Pokemon anime raised me and is my childhood is an understatement. Just like watching anime since 2000 and knowing Pokemon in 2000 as well. Ash’s b/w team is probably one of his weakest team. I am very an expect of the Pokemon anime.
They are a lot of people saying the black and white amine is better than the game or the the game is better than the amine but the manga of black and white is better than the amine am just saying because like the manga of black and white do good story like don’t have no hate for the black and white amine but yeah am just saying

I can’t believe Ash never got to battle Virgil in the Unova League at all. If he didn’t lose to Cameron, I’m sure it would’ve happened. He seemed like a really strong trainer too even though he had all Eevee Pokémon. Virgil did beat Cameron in the next find however so it’s better than nothing.
If I could've decided, I'd have Ash beat Cameron but lose to Virgil by having Virgil's Eevee evolve into Sylveon mid-battle. Would have been a great way to foreshadow X and Y.

As someone who grew up watching the latter half of the Gen 4 anime and all of the Gen 5 anime, I will always have a soft spot for BW. Yeah, I enjoyed Sinnoh way more, but Unova had its own charm to it.
I really like your points! Best Wishes is honestly not that bad, it isn’t comparable with XY DP or SM but it’s still a good series imo. It was honestly my childhood and yet my most memorable series I’ve watched and lot of episodes were honestly entertaining.
I do agree there flaws like Ash’s reset or the Elesa battle and Unova League. But I still believe Best Wishes had their moments. I really enjoyed the Club tournament arcs! It gave lot of interactions with other characters we know! It feels more entertaining to watch especially the battles. I also liked the Meloetta arc which is sorta like an Ash vs Giovanni we get to see
Iris and Cilan were not bad companions, but I think they were likeable and interesting characters for me personally.
Anyways Best Wishes is my least favourite still, But I still enjoy it and give it a chance. I personally love all Pokémon series even with their flaws
The earthquake that cancelled the planned Team Rocket vs Team Plasma story was a huge blow to this series. It clearly forced a major rewrite of the series, and seeing the script for the banned episodes makes this even clearer.
The way how you said that Zekrom is the in-universe counterpart(s) of the Pokemon Writers makes so much sense to the point that the more you think about it, it's not even funny.

One day I’ll revisit the Hoenn series. Its my least fav mostly cause its the one I watched the least
In April of this year, I decided I would finally watch the Pokémon anime from the very first episode all the way up until the most recent episodes of today but with the main goal being to watch the Black and White series due to it being the first pkmn games I played and my favorite region. Today, I finally reached Unova after watching every episode of Kanto, Johnto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh. As of now, I'm only on Episode 4 of Unova and I'm gonna watch the whole series and then come back to this video, which I've liked to save for later, and watch it so I can do so without spoilers.
I will provide an update to this comment when I'm done watching Unova.

I liked Black and White too, and the league.
Even though Ash had an advantage, he still ended up destroying him up until Cameron got plot armor and his Riolu evolved.
Pikachu had fought like 2 pokemon before Lucario, so it was really tired.
Those 3 Quick Attacks Pikachu landed were not very effective on the Steel-type Lucario.
I think they handled that final league battle really well, in my opinion.
I do wish Pikachu didn't lose to the Snivy in the beginning. But that made the Unova League exhibition match more satisfying because Pikachu got its revenge.
But yeah... to enjoy the Black and White anime as an old-school fan, you need to suspect your beliefs and turn of your brain. Reset your expectations like how Ash got reset. As long as you do that, you'll be fine :/
12:40 iirc the team rocket vs team plasma arc had to be cancelled because of the 2011 earthquake/tsunami that happened in japan. honestly considering that happened and probably had to change things very quickly BW is still a solid series and the team rocket/team plasma arcs they came up with instead are decent imo

I mean, Ash didn't really need to be bad in Black and White to be good in XY. He was already progressing as a capable trainer in Diamond and Pearl, learning from his companions as well. Didn't the counter shield he did in Sinnoh come from watching Dawn in contests after all? His cocky and bad phase happened way back in the original series; it didn't need to happen again. Not bashing Black and White, just saying the reasoning you gave doesn't make all that much sense to me. I mean the Black and White anime is why Krookodile is one of my favorite Pokémon of all time, so you know I'm not a hater.

Let's be honest that earthquake from 2011 destroyed this Pokemon Gen 5 anime series. Still the writers were still starborn with nerfing, and keeping Ash in anime by letting him lose the regional pokemon championship tournaments. Fortunately the backlash from Pokemon Gen 6 anime change things forever, and now we have much better Pokemon Horizons anime.

I always thought if Ash was Sinnoh Ash, he would get along with Trip. Trip as partner would be cool, a trashtalking and proud male partner instead of Brock 3.0 but alas Ash caught brainrot from Zekrom so yeah Trip isn't gonna take him seriously lol actually relatable
BW was my first series that got me there. I don't understand why it was hated until I return I found out it was hated. So I rewatch what made it being hated. There are flaws that is valid and also the reason why it got a bad rep. Despite that, I enjoyed it.

The Pokemon Black and White anime was pretty Mid also let this be known that Ash's Unova team is by far the most garbage team he has ever owned in the series
they try to restart a character that has years and multiple journeys to learn of the thing that a so-called restart Ash try to learn in a rush. if they said that it was an alter universe Ah that just stared out then that would being better. they not only made Ash drummer and somehow Neff Pikachu in a terrible way. Pikachu had more than electric-type moves and should been able to win. if you think this was a way for ash learn how to plan for future battles he already learned that. then they made it worst by bringing Charizard back to keep all the old fans. meanwhile, we got a trainer who just gotten started and to full of himself who even got put in his place. my problem with Irish is she is a charter with next to no exception going around thinking she more then akid herself if they made her a gym leader trainee and learn how to be a dragon master, it would have been better. clian is his own character so he is not that bad. also the ash in the past would had use his old pokemon like he did in sinnoh. The so-called restart made things worse. he should skip unova it would made things so much easier
The team rocket vs team plasma arc was canceled because one of the episodes was about team rocket making earthquake at a time when there was a huge earthquake in Japan. In the middle of the season they had to completely change the story and create new episode for that story that's where black and white went wrong
It’s an ok series but I think they could have improved this season even better but I like how this season team rocket became a big threat this time so that’s a plus

Is it just me or does no one ever mention the Ash vs. Roxie battle? Her team of 3 wasn't that impressive and Ash having to use all 6 of his Pokemon felt like deleting every progress he gained from the prior battles. On top of that being his final gym battle, Ash felt really weak barely clutching that victory.

Honestly, Ash's personality during Sinnoh Battle Frontier arc transitioning to Kalos season 1 is very natural even without Unova series. What made Unova the worst among the series is Ash just doing the gym challenges because he needs to rather than enjoying the thrill of the challenge. Ash's enthusiasm and battle IQ in Sinnoh's and Kalos' are consistently increasing despite the increase in difficulty, this is what Unova Ash lacks. The best part of Unova series is that one arc with Meloetta and one movie with Victini. Other than that, everything in Unova feels like an unnecessary filler arc.
I love the victini movie, that was prob my favorite pokemon movie honestly
I have mixed feelings about Black and White. I like the episodes that every episode has some form of plot progression and that we do get a lot of interesting Pokemon. But I just wish that the league battle that Ash lost would have been to a better rival than Cameron, or at the very least a full battle against Trip.
