  • While semantics and social mores have shifted, Dr. Harley’s ideas remain timeless. His focus on providing extraordinary care and meeting a spouse’s emotional needs resonate just as much today as they did decades ago when he wrote his international bestseller, His Needs, Her Needs.
“I’m in favor of caring for other people and being responsible for the needs of others. I’m opposed to people hurting each other,” he said. “Everything I represent is accepted by current culture.”

Marriage is a relationship of extraordinary care... we are our beloved's agent for happiness, we must avoid hurting them, and we must make joint decisions for mutual care. (WWJD). We do not have a *right* to be loved by the one we love. Rather, we cultivate the love for us that we want by treating our beloved with extraordinary care.
It's so true, that this EXTRA care is so inevitably romantic. How to make a great thing last.

It sounds like “hate” is more realistically resentment.
Also, as hard as we may all try-no one can make ANYONE LOVE ANYONE. Behaviors can’t do that.
This truly is a transactional type of relationship and if I give to my spouse XYZ, I can now expect XYZ because it’s pre-paid for. Thats scary and unsafe for many families-especially women.
