Bacchetta is partnering with CarbonTrikes of Sweden on this design. it is based on CarbonTrikes line of race trike recumbents. I've owned a CarbonTrikes for 4 years. It is a fantastic ride: stable at speed and in the turns, light and fast. The Bacchetta price reflects the cost of manufacturing a carbon frame, which reduces the weight by 2-4 pounds over other lightweight race trikes (and as much as 10 - 15 pounds over traditional recumbent trikes). All of the race trikes provide good aero (not "arrow") positioning. I think the differential drag losses between these machines would be minimal and unimportant except in a race. Still, the aerodynamic seating on a recumbent race trike reduces drag losses significantly when compared to an upright bike (ride an upright bike in a tuck position for your entire ride to experience something close to the drag energy savings that you get from riding a race recumbent trike).
The big CarbonTrikes advantage to me was in getting a trike that weighed less than 26 pounds (the Bacchetta version is a bit heavier than the Swedish Carbontrikes version I bought, but it is close, and still lighter than the competition). I wanted something that I could get up the hills at nearly the same speed as the upright bikes, and then blow them away on the flats. They have to be riding in a peloton or deeply tucked into an aero position to experience the drag savings I get on the CarbonTrikes. If you want a recumbent just to go 10-12 mph around the neighborhood for short distances, any 40 pound spam can will do, but if you like to run much faster and/or farther, a lightweight carbon racing trike is now much more widely available without having to import from Sweden.

Like the trike, hate the price.

Saving a few pounds on the weight of the trike wouldn't help that much if the rider is 50 pounds or more overweight.

A bike that weighs a few pounds less for over $7K?
Just keep good eating habits, drop a few pounds and save yourself $5K...

Probably the fastest trike available is the Greenspeed Aero. Lays waaaay back. I found a vid of one travelling downhill at some 78 KMH (about 48.5 mph) I’ve gone nearly that fast on my ICE Sprint X but i gear out long before that speed and just hold steady. It is quite stable but you don’t want to make sudden moves. I would never give up the comfort of the mesh saddle or rear suspension. I also much prefer indirect steering vs the Catrike’s direct. Greenspeed looks something like joy sticks. Probably very sporty handling.

Looks super cool for sure. I’m happy to see a main stream bent bike manufacturer enter the trike world. $7K is substantially higher than offerings from ICE Vortex or Catrike 700. My ride is the ICE Sprint X with rear suspension. Comfort is a higher priority at 66 than speed or weight. And so nice to fold for transport in my car.

I want the Arrow by green speed. more arrow than any trike out there and of course faster. second choice is the ICE

BTRflorida May i ask you a question about trikes? I’m new to this and am really considering getting one. But needed some advice

Jadi Tention I’m happy to answer questions if you still need help. I was smooshed by a truck a month ago. Waiting for a new ICE from the U.K. healing okay.

the thing is with a trike there are no rule books to tear up....so why just build a carbon replacement for metal tubes? why wasn't it a carbon aero trike? This isn't hardly any lighter than a vtx. With upright road bikes losing kilo after kilo the last few years and getting aero details refined despite competitive rules, trikes are lagging far behind with new progressive thinking. It looks a nice trike but could of been so much more. $7k isnt a bad price, you could spend way more than that on a carbon upright.

It appears they manufacture a carbon trike but there is NO bike shop in Ma that sells or allows a test ride. It's all about the weight when climbing hills.
