Here in Belgium we make the best fries and we take them very seriously. They are thinly sliced ('julienne'), baked golden brown, crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. The best potatoes for making fries are called 'Bintje'. They are only grown in Belgium and Holland and especially for making fries. Besides that, the secret is that we bake our fries twice and not in one go like in the UK. First we cook them in oil at 120 °C until the center is soft and then we fry them at 180 °C until golden brown and crisp on the outside. Traditionally this can be sunflower oil or even ox fat or horse fat (I kid you not!) or a mix of both. The animal fat gives them their nice taste, the vegetable oil their lovely crispiness. But usually we stick to vegetable oil only (which is a shame in my honest opinion). Our favorite sauce to go with our fries is mayonnaise (Yep! And you should try it too!). Lived 15 years in the Netherlands and this is not really Dutch, but just a burger bar. No traditional Dutch snacks, and the Dutch fries are Belgium fries, because Belgium fries are thicker like you have. The frietsaus (mayonnaise) served on the fries is standard, but slightly different from the general salad mayonnaise you get here. With Dutch fries you get three optional toppings, they are mayo, tomatosause, and chopped onions, anything outside of that is witchcraft. :-)
as a dutch person I can say that there is NOTHING dutch about this. I was expecting a tray of fries with all kinds of sauces. Maybe a frikandel or kroket for some meat but this..... nah NOTHING to do with dutch fries.
@Daan Made in Holland easy, tiger. in england there's loads of "curry shops", mostly in ethnic middens and they are all "regionally flavoured". obv, depending on where they come from. ( called the same, but differing in taste.)
Nah nah nah, I was born in the Netherlands and there are many sauce options. Maybe you spent your 15 years in some purist area, but we definitely eat peanutsauce and currysauce on our chips and snacks, even in purist snackbars. Also, lets not forget that kapsalon is a Dutch thing, which is basicly "loaded fries" in a whole meal version. The sauces on that are generally garlic sauce and sambal (chili paste)
@@blackbob3358 Its called curry sauce but its not the indian kind, more the german curry wurst kind. Its more a sweet kind of sauce. This place would be the same as if I openend a english fish and chips shop and only sold you fish burgers with some fries.

Love this channel..! Better than man v food... top quality bloke doing proper reviews.. I’ve been watching for 2 hours now. The chicken one and the grub in the pizza box with the dogs and steak chips looks banging.
I expected fries with things like satay sauce on there. The only time you see cheese anywhere near Dutch fries is when it's a Kapsalon (fries with kebab, cheese, and veggies).
In all fairness a lot of Dutch just have their chips with just a dollop of mayo, the satéh sauce and curry are really novelties as in have not really been a thing for more than 30 years.
@@Lillith. I'm not disagreeing with you my comment was more ment like an add on. I have seen the birth of patatje oorlog, patatje sateh , patatje speciaal with the replacement of the tomato ketchup for curry and of coarse the kapsalon. I've also seen their rise in popularity. And I am Dutch so i really don't care what anyone has on their fries. But if you look around you in the streets a lot of people will still simply go for the dollop of mayo :)
Being an American+Dutch citizen married with a Dutchie and living in Holland...here are my thoughts. Dutch fries are the best I've ever had. My favorite is "patat oorlog" ("fries at war") which is fresh hot fries served with equal amounts peanut sauce and mayonnaise, sprinkled with finely diced fresh onion. This is food HEAVEN. Dutch burgers? Not so much. Here and there you can find a genuine American-style burger but most of them taste a bit like curry, and have a different texture, possibly being a mix of beef and pork. After visiting Germany and enjoying a frikadel sandwich, I think I understand where the typical Dutch burger gets its flavors from. I've learned to enjoy the Dutch burger for what it is, though. In this video, I was impressed with the very American-style burger and though those fry toppings look delish, I haven't seen them in Holland. But altogether it looked like a greasy delicious pile of food, and I'd punish my body happily in order to try it!
As an American.. That is the only way a fry should be. Can't stand most fast food fries here now days that are either soft inside and out or crunchy on the outside and hollow inside.
@@SilvaDreams As an Englishman one of my dreams is to go to New York City, a place I have always wanted to see! And while I’m there buy a hotdog from one of the street venders, hopefully one day! 😂
As a Dutchie I am curious about this place now, we do add toppings to fries very rarely, but it happens. We do eat our chips with mayo, still wondering what you think of the Dutch mayo. Oh, and I get that it's confusing, but it's actually the Netherlands, (North and South) Holland is just a part of the country, just like the Midlands (East and West) ;)
All my life I assumed Holland was merely an exonym for the Netherlands. But a little critical thinking should show that that's obviously not the case as Netherlands is the English form of the name anyway! So thanks for clearing that up mate, I wonder why we call it Holland like we do??
@@charlieross4674 before it was united as "The Netherlands" it used to be a county, and as it was surrounded by a lot of sea, thus a lot of overseas trading happened in Holland. Thus I guess the name "Holland" kinda stuck in the heads of the British merchants and was passed on as the name of this nation over future generations. Now Holland is divided into two provinces, North and South, of which North Holland is mostly known for the cities Amsterdam, Haarlem, Zaandam and Alkmaar, while South Holland is known for Rotterdam, The Hague, Delft and Leiden. And no problem :) it's not just British people calling it Holland, the majority here calls it Holland somehow... (whilst we should know better)
@@charlieross4674 Its a bit late but: The old English cousin of "Dutch" meant nation or people, so they would call us low-dutch (Netherlands "low lands") and high-dutch (mountains in Germany "Deutschland") so we would be all called the pretty much... After some seaman from the "low-dutch" that lived in Holland became populair so did the term Holland. It also explains why we are called Dutch while living in The Netherlands, we are the nation a.k.a. "dutch" of the low lands. Somewhat interesting tho is how people from Germany are called German, even when they are in the same position as us.. At least in our own language we call them Duitsers coming from Duitsland which is coming from Deutschland.

@@Woekkie every time I have chips it's with satay sauce. Granted, that isn't it often but still.
@@Woekkie Sorry but I am as Dutch as can be and I ate Fries with Sateh sauce already 45 years ago...

No way..thats when they make u say what they want and do what they want.

That looks like a damn good burger. Might have to drive to Leeds now!
Waiting for my dinner as I watch this. Salivating.
Well getting me in the mood for my takeaway tonight! 😂
Dutch fries are the best. Crunchy on the outside, creamy on the inside, good potato taste! Btw I'm from Nederland!! Lekkerste patat!

Danny, you absolute legend. Keep doing your thing!

The location of these takeaway shops crack me up. It’s on the corner of the street in a residential area. Go Britain!
You don’t get them in any other country
Steady with the lettuce,,
Yeah in the middle of nowhere would be much better buissness idea than an area with lots of people....u dodo
The residential district it is situated in is called "Headingly" this is one of the main housing areas for students who attend either the Polytechnic or University of Leeds. Location is perfect for the business customer base.
@@kmmining1359 yeah i dont know the city and knew thatd be the case lol takeaways near residential areas a bad idea??? Ok bud
