    This is so adorable!!!! I love interactive cards that don't need a bunch of specialty dies. Would it be easier to cut the groove by offsetting the plates so that the top one only goes as far you want it to cut? That way, you could run it all the way through the machine and wouldn't have to worry about if you're cranking it too far.

    Your ideas are interesting but I find that the 2 penguins are too frustrating. I like the first card with one penguin moving. Also, an expensive cutting machine isn't necessary. Just cut a template curve to one's liking, lightly trace it on the card and cut it out with an Xacto knife.

    I think you are having trouble with your penguins spinning because you said you are using velvet paper. It is probably preventing movement. I use card stock paper and those things really spin fast. Also, with card stock paper, you don't need to put any double stick tape on the back of the front card. You just need the two pennies and that holds it up.
