Very well explained. Now days these kind of wonderful contents help PGs a lot. Out of my experience I would like to add in x ray Mastoid if side is not mentioned the easiest way is the side which is closer to the plate/ cassette comes on x ray film.
If skull is facing to your left it’s the right side mastoid and vice versa
