For those wondering, the version they are playing is the vanilla build. Since this recording, turning the negative announcing off was added, the "Microsoft Sam" voice was updated, replaying the video clip multiple times before adding your answers was added.
Sadly for the developers, most people aren't going to read this comment and people are already taking this video as a game they should avoid.
When was this game released? It seems to me they just took the dubbing game from Use Your Words and made it worse. Even if it was corrected later on, I still think that Use Your Words is better, since it has multiple game modes, and this is just the dubbing part.

Dan is a wonderful human being, this game is just rude
this game simulates what it's like when someone you don't know tries to be "playfully" rude to you in your twitter replies
then again, when i looked up the company it definitely showed what they saw as "good humor".
Their only other game is "freedom finger" which has a lot of uuuuh nationalist and political jokes to say the least.
I’m not a game developer, but I feel like it would have gone over MUCH better if they 1) didn’t bully last place and 2) used films with languages the audience didn’t understand. If they don’t want to use non-English languages, maybe try voicing over in a dead language like ancient greek or latin? Or use something like simlish? The Microsoft Sam voice, combined with the way the film just stops playing to wait for the reading to finish, makes the game feel unpolished.
That exists, the game is called Use Your Words
You can turn off the bully option. But the worse thing is. You can ONLY have up to 6 people in the audience.
So basically someone looked at the footage rounds of Use Your Words and decided to make that its own game, huh. I feel like it works better there, though. Because all the footage is from subtitled foreign films, you don't have the lameness of the microsoft sam voice and can actually imagine that they are indeed saying the things you have typed. Also, the clip shown doesn't have to just stop if what you typed is too long.

I love how supportive and loving everyone is to Dan. The game is interesting but the unnecessary meanness really puts a sour taste in my mouth.
This is a good premise for a game, but the biggest issues are
1) Unnecessary meanness to the last place. George Carlin said it best, punching down in comedy just comes off as cruel, and this seems just too much into “hahaha let’s laugh at the person who isn’t as good”, which just makes that person feel like crap.
2) Microsoft Sam for everything. Would love to have it maybe have different voices for different things, or maybe a select option for voices where you select a preview of the voice, then see the clip, and then write it out.
3) Replaying the clips would be nice for when you’re talking over it.
4) Constraining text length to make sure it makes sense with the clip length without having it suddenly freeze.
Probably 1-2 less rounds as well. I feel like the ideal length for this game should be closer to 8-10 minutes per game.
I think Use Your Words does all that. The only difference is that Use Your Words only does it for Round 1 with the other 2 rounds being other game types
Apparently the first 3 where already fixed awhile back. This video was unfortunately made before the devs could fix the criticism.
This game could be amazing, they just need to have more voice options or let the players dub their own scenes
And get rid of shaming the losers
Loser shaming is an option, not sure if it was added after this was recorded though.
This game reminds me of Use Your Words. Also I do hate how the game gives you crap for losing.
they really have to lose the crappy attitude, it really puts people off playing. and Dan is funny, the game is jealous.
There is a setting to disable them, not sure when it was added though.
@@E3kHatena Hmm, looking at a few other comments it seems the feature may have already been there. Problem is that it's a setting at all. I can't think of a situation where I'd want to sit down with people and be beaten down by the game I'm playing, just because I wasn't AS funny.
This also means "always-check-the-settings" Stephen didn't notice it, which while normal, isn't a great sign for the game. If it has to be an option, it could really do with being a much clearer option. IMO, anyway
@@LalalaKirby - Yeah, this game is really quick and dirty for what it is. I feel like Use Your Words does a way better job at this kind of gameplay, and Fibbage does a better job at putting down answers with zero votes without getting irritating over it. I do hope the devs continue to polish the game as I have extended family that love it, but it just feels like an inferior product compared to its competitors, whereas Use Your Words at least has the polish to go toe-to-toe with Jackbox, even if it’s not as feature-rich.
@@LalalaKirby The option was added in an update after the game released. If Stephen & Friends has as big of a backlog as Stephen says there is, there's a good chance the option didn't exist when they recorded this. Especially since Stephen in this video says he checked the settings to see if there was an option for more than 6 players.
I thought you were going to record voices rather than just having the obnoxious robot. That would have improved this a ton and also yeah, it's a bit mean for a comedy game.
I suggest playing "Use Your Words" instead. Though sadly the subbing part is only 1 round of the game, but it's still good. Not jackbox level though.
You know a game is good when the biggest takeaway is how much we appreciate OTHER games
Yeah I agree that this game has a lot of potential but needs some tweaks. The meanness is just kind of rude and unnecessary and also having the option to dub over the scenes yourself would be really great. Also making sure the selection of clips are good and have a lot of potential funny scenarios, in general I think the second round had a lot better ones than the first.

That’s a 2 way street. When creators are jerks, no matter how big or small, people won’t want to support that. Not much more I can say that other comments haven’t said already. Use Your Words just did it better by using foreign films, it feels like an unpolished game, and unnecessarily rude.
I think they just mean in general "don't be a jerk". If an indie creator is a jerk, there's no reason to support them y'know. ALTHOUGH, as Thomas mentioned, highly ironic they tell you not to be a jerk when...they're literally doing it themselves.
The language is definitely unnecessary though, it's like they wanted to make a Jackbox game but just HAD to add some snark, so they make fun of the player in last place. 🤷♂️
@@KrispyKrabby apparently it was a setting in the options whether or not the game insults last place.
Seems like a case of thin skin. A creator being a jerk to me in any context means they were awful to their staff or the product was misleading. I don't give a crap if the game uses put-downs. What impressionable Second Grader is going to have any understanding of the fossil films of this game? Clearly not the intended audience.
The “I can’t make it Captain!” Would have been the perfect place to add a fart noise
Yeah, this seems like a cool game, but yes i agree, the rudeness is really off putting.

Remind me: have y'all played Use Your Words before? It has a variety of games in a short span, one of which is a Foreign Film Sub version of this. No condescension to those performing not as well, either.
If this game turned you off (and it looks like it might've), try Use Your Words sometime instead.

Y’all might really like Use Your Words! It has a similar film dubbing round and two additional rounds with stock photos and Quiplash-style fill in the blanks, and on the whole feels more polished and complete. It was made by Brentalfloss and a few folks from Screenwave Media, too, and has a stream-friendly mode for longer timers and non-infringing music and clips.

Fun Fact: Vader never says "Luke, I am your father" in Star Wars. He actually says "No, I am your father".
They need a splash screen to get people ready for clips and allow for laughs/discussion to be over. Has potential, needs more testing.
This must be old (or at least 2 months old), early May they added more options for TTS and up to 12 players (in the audience, sadly) at once if you guys are interested in playing this again
(1.2 already added an option to remove negative quips a while back)

I feel like the biggest issue with this game, is that it tries to mimic jackbox's sense of humor, but misses the mark. Jackbox often teases and pokes and prods but it never really insult someone. It'll make fun of you a bit with things that are lies or jokes like " remind me not to make you mad" or " oh is that what you're into?"
But this game outright insults the person not really teasing it's very much a way to not want people to play it if they didn't do well. Especially since it makes everyone that didn't vote for the losing person feel bad for not voting for them and makes the winner feel guilty.
There’s a similar game called Use Your Words that not only has other modes, but doesn’t jab at players.
The clips at around 9:00 and at around 17:00 are both from the original Night of the Living Dead (1968). A true classic.

You can turn it off in the options already. This video was just recorded before the first update of the game where the devs took feedback.

This game feels completely like Use Your Words but that game had more variety. I definitely recommend checking out Use Your Words with the group cause that would be a blast! Hopefully this game takes some extra notes from Use Your Words!

At least it sounds like Negative Announcer Quips can be turned off now but feels like a misstep that they were compulsory in the game in the first place - user testing should have revealed they weren't a good choice.
Yes, No. They most likely had their friends test it and some people are perfectly fine with degrading humor. Just like how some people love really dark humor while others find it super disturbing and a mood killer.
If you guys liked this, I’d suggest use your words, it’s basically this but more fill-in-the-blank.
Hmm... The making fun of the loser thing is definitely a case of, if done properly, could work. But unfortunately, the ways for a game TO do that might not exactly be to a point where machines can really tell yet.

I was very excited for this game but the whole "ha ha you suck" scoring kinda ruined it for me. I saw in another comment that they added the option to turn off the mean stuff but still. It was really sweet everyone supporting each other tho!

Aww I feel bad that you guys didn't like this game that much. I don't know it it was because I couldn't really hear them crapping on the loser, or if it's just my style of humor, but I actually don't mind the idea of giving the loser crap for losing. I do agree that I hope whoever makes this keeps working on it and maybe makes a party game compilation like Jackbox, because I think it could be really good. Either way I at least enjoyed this video a lot! (Also all the love to Dan. He's great.)

I do wish the players got to speak into the microphone for their answers in a game like this.
Even before I clicked on this, I was expecting this to be something like another game I had in mind, AND IT IS WHICH IS GREAT. I figured this would be similar to the Kinect game Yoostar 2 which I remember watching on PewDiePie's channel years ago, and yeah.
One thing I gotta give to Yoostar though, you only had a limited time to say your line and you were able to use your own voice, which I think adds a lot to it, so it's a shame that's not a thing here.
Edit...again: Eh, cool concept, but as already mentioned by others, Use Your Words just did it better and personally I think Yoostar 2 did too so...uh yeah.

I don't like to be negative, but this game just seems like an inferior version of Use Your Words. Unless it's some sort of coincidence these games work so strikingly similar, it's very obvious this game was pretty much copied off it. If the devs are reading this, I highly, _highly_ recommend doing something that differentiates this game from Use Your Words, because as it is now, with all due respect most definitely, it just seems like a low quality knock-off of Use Your Words. The ridiculing of people in last place, although not inherently always a bad idea in my opinion, adds absolutely nothing to the experience and just comes off as uncomfortably forced to me, and I could imagine players feeling uncomfortable because of it. I truly want this game to be good, but it's very unpolished and feels fake.
They already updated the game a while ago to make the Last Place comments optional.

If you're talking about 19:12 ish in the video, I'm pretty sure they're supposed to be robots. The lighting just doesn't sell it, really (you know, unless you know what movie that clip is from and can confirm otherwise). But yea even without that, this game is pretty bad.

@@MaxTheSwagMasterC unfortunately, there is a lot of cinematic (and theatrical) history of getting away with things like blackface and yellowface under the guise of the characters being non-human beings like robots and aliens. they are still portrayed and embodied by real humans and, as a result, still have deeply harmful sociocultural repercussions for already-marginalized folks of color.
@@motherfaerie Yea this seems like something they would do back then. However, the fact that the paint is extremely reflective kind of takes me away from that. Again, I would probably have to see the context and definitely how this character looks in other scenes of this movie (not that I would ever want to look any movie up from this game, since they were picked because not only were they public domain, but for probably being bad movies in general). The fact that this movie is most likely bad can probably lean into either this being blackface or this being an absolutely terrible shot. I guess it's really up to perspective. It's also interesting that this movie is in color, though, since it means it's probably one of the newest movies that lie on public domain, since it takes forever for any media to become public domain.

We love you, Dan! This game is really bad and, unlike Dan, not funny. It feels like a half-attempt at capitalising on Jackbox's success without putting in the effort like those games do.
Crazy
People have been mentioning Use Your World, and while I admit that I am also not a big fan of it due to how slow its pacing is, their Movies round is definitely superior to this. And also while there is none of the rude host, I think it goes too far the other direction too -- like Use Your Word's host barely has ANY character. That's one thing I always commend Jackbox for being able to write their hosts to be in the right area, where they can be condescending to you, but you can never get upset at them.
I hate this games solely because it keeps shitting on Dan

You know, I hope that everybody knows that many of the problems here have been solved.
To people complaining about the films not being in different languages, the Microsoft Sam voice, and the clips not replaying, do note that these things were probably intentional so that Jackbox wouldn't have a problem with the people that made this game.
Use Your Words does all these things though =b and that wasn't made by Jackbox

There's a difference between, not liking a game and expressing that and a game being unnecessarily cruel to it's players for losing.

How long ago was this recorded? They've updated this a lot since this version and fixed most of the problems from it, which makes this kind of an unfortunate way to show it off. I think the version's that out now is better than 99% of the Jackbox games - at least it doesn't have the annoying trying-to-be-funny-but-never-landing announcer.
