I deposited with National Film Archives of India for preservation. This clipping I had given to Doradharsan to telecast on the accation of birth centenary of Sri Chambai Vaidyanatha Bagavatar. This was telecaster by Doradharsan in late nineties.

I had seen Chembai when I was a boy of 8 or 10 years. Around mid 1960's. He came to our local Devi temple at Shertallay. It was one day of the festival for nightlong concert. At around 10 or 11pm the kacheri started. He was sitting like this. No shirt. No hair on the head. I was sitting with our village women who took me. Though I didn't know who was Chembai or what he did, and I had no idea what is Karnatic music, I thought he was a great man and was stubborn to see him. We sat about 20 ft from the stage. The Kacheri started. I heard for may be 10 min. I slipped into sleep. I woke up in the early morning when it ended and the women took me back home.
Nice to see a recording of the great Chembia from before 1952. He lost his voice in 52 while in Guruvayur and took Ayurvedic treatment to restore his voice. Many say that his voice sounded even better after he came back!

The Alaap of chembai and chowdish were par excellant. Mani iyers mridangam actually sang. But you missed bringing out it is a Kannada film. It is kannada culture that is evergreen sakalakala protsahi. The Rhythm of maniniyer and moursing in tani was like dance finale tillana. Give such clips of greats more and more from all art forms of bharat
They say time only preserves the best of history. The film is long gone, but the one scene that's totally worth the weight in gold somehow survived for us.
