    That's LInkin Park
They played heavy songs, not so heavy songs, with guitars, electronic beats, a lot of drums, less drums, with or without rap.
You can find A lot of styles in just one band
    7 studio albuns
ALL diferent, that's Why I loved and I still love this band,
They have a song for every mood of my day.
for me this is the best song of them.

It sounds like you’re basing expectations on their first two albums from twenty odd years ago. If that’s all you know about Linkin Park, you’ve missed out.

Truth. Not much of a departure as you go further into their discography. Cant blame David tho, hopefully he’ll be able to check out more of this side of LP.

I hated this song when I was younger. Its such a grower, now one of my all time faves. Its simple in a good way. Very emotionally resonant.

The whole band actually sang on this song as well as several other songs on this album A Thousand Suns. When they performed this song live everyone but Rob sang on stage even though he sang the song on the album. This is one of their songs that I listen to more often.
Mike and Chester both wrote this song. Chester actually wrote the lyrics he sang and then showed them to Mike when Mike was trying to write this song. Joe Hahn directed this music video.

This is from their 4th album a thousand suns which was definitely a concept album. This was one of the singles which is why it sounds quite commercial. I do love the vocals from Chester and the fact Mike gets a lot of time to shine too. Not their strongest song but a good song nonetheless. Leaning into their hip hop/pop feel. Translates into the next album after this Living things too

It's got awesome melodies and a brilliantly written structure. Quality of music isn't necessarily about complexity/how technical it is. Some of the best music is simple. Also doesn't mean those pieces were easy to write, genius in simplicity

I think the score sounds fine based on your opinions as I understand them, and I think you explain your reasoning in a fair and clear way; although I would personally rate it higher. It's actually one of my favourite songs from them.
I like how they kept certain instruments (or their digital counterparts) simple and more subdued, while allowing the vocals to shine. I think they managed to create a very pleasant sounding song that, at least to me, still didn't feel boring due to a combination of vocals and build through the song. It wasn't an instant favourite song, just as the album A Thousand Suns wasn't an instant favourite album, but they both grew on me. I don't have your knowledge of music to articulate why it grew on me, but it just did.
As for the process of making this song, given what I've seen from the many videos the band shared of that process, I think it's likely that their drummer worked on the drums, even if the end product might be digital. They are very perfectionistic, and would definitely be the kind of people to "waste time" having their drummer Rob work on the drum part, just to make it digital because they thought it sounded better that way. I know that in the past, there were songs where Rob worked his ass off to perfect playing drum part they were experimenting with, just for the band to decide together that earlier simpler parts fit the song better. That's just how they work, they try things out, and there is no hard feelings about "wasted work", because it's just part of their process getting to what they want to achieve. The whole band has to decide together what they are happy with, and I'm sure every member has had their time "wasted", or had work they were proud of not make it.
I think it's part of what makes the band so appealing to me. I'm heard plenty of songs with, say, a really "impressive" guitar solo, objectively ridiculously skilled work, probably mind-blowing to anyone who plays that instrument; and I've been bored to tears waiting for the song itself to progress (no hate on anyone who loves that!). I don't get that with Linkin Park, it always feels like the song as a whole comes first before any particular parts, and I think that's at least in part due to their very democratic sort of approach.
As to whether this "sounds like Linkin Park", I actually think it does. But I think it does so mostly if you've heard their entire catalogue. Because after Meteora, they kept experimenting A LOT with their sound, always seeming to want to try something new and exciting to them. I hear some common elements from across all their "eras", but it still stands out as "different" at the same time. Maybe that's also part of why I personally like it, the combination of fresh yet familiar.
I'm super glad you shared your honest thoughts about it, and as always, you took the time to articulate why in a way that was interesting, so thank you ❤

It’s interesting, as I think you and I share a lot of opinions but this goes to show how a difference in taste widely effects a songs impact.
For me personally this is an absolutely all time classic Linkin Park song, one of my favourites and I consider it a must listen. The drums and the cymbals are made on a drum machine and it speaks to my hip-hop sensibilities. Hypnotic rhythms and enchanting vocal lines. The build up of layering vocals at the end is pure eargasm.
It’s very smart and outside the box to have those kinds of vocal harmonies pitted with Rapping. A very slick move from Mike to make the track very unique. This is definitely a track where the voices were meant to drive the song, while the music served as more of a bedding to embellish and cradle those voices neatly.
The album that this song is from was very much Linkin Parks “let’s throw everything at the wall and see what sticks” phase as nothing on this record sounds like anything from the band prior, and it’s some of my favourite material from LP as a *HIP-HOP HEAD*. As a metal head I’m not sure if you’d get much from the record in general but the songs are all interesting at the very least.
    Great video as always.

My favorite LP song. There's something about parts of it that feel like a late-stage Beatles song in an odd way.

I already suspected that you were gonna take issue with the heavy use of digital instrumentation. I love this song and the vocals are definitely the highlight for me as well.

This is their best song in my opinion! From their best album as well. A Thousand Suns was a concept album and they went heavy on the electronic sounds, the album sounds both hopeful and depressing at points which is why I love it. Every album was a bit different than the the previous as they didn't want to be boxed into a single genre/sound.

Fuck he had a great voice. RIP Chester.
Aye - not what you would expect. And I hadn't heard this before (but I really haven't fully explored LP) - Castle of Glass and Shadow of the Day stand out to me as their ballads. And I know that a few fans were disappointed in this departure from their heavier style. Did I like Waiting for the End - yes because of Chester's vocals. Would I buy it - probably not. Would I be disappointed if it turned up on and album - no.
Much the same as the Jay Z/LP collaboration album - not a fan of Jay Z but Numb/Encore is incredible (and I brought the Collision Course for that one track). I like what I like.
Interesting score DH - opinions vary on taste. Probably the biggest thing is 'shock' from what you expected, what you know. Its a complete inversion to what you know. As for the music - this is the problem with studio vs live (is the live track different - more real? Do they have a live track ). Add to that LP does switch through genres (I hate Rap but Rock/Rap like LP tracks is no problem)
I agree with everything you say, though Chester's vocals would shine through and give the artist away on a pure blind listen.
    Cheers from Oz

I remember buying Hybrid Theory from Target for like $6.99, it was an early promo price as they were not big yet, One Step Closer had just come out, been a fan of them since then, but not really into this one. It's not horrible, but not part of any of my playlists either. You may like Chester's other band Dead By Sunrise David.

Not their best but it's his favourite song he composed. Hes a hiphop guy his root is always hiphop. And for a hiphop category this beat is a top notch beat compared to today's shitty beat.
