gave us easy , comfort flowing !
Jane Parker Smith passed away in 2020 Some may not know as well as been a concert organist she drove fast cars was named in london in 2014 as one of a number of 1,000 most influential londoners. RIP to a beautiful soul !
Wow, awesome clip to see. She really could play, too bad I never had the chance to see her live
Discovered this absolute gem by accident. Totally marvellous. I cried through out . Was lucky to hear her live in Manchester and Leeds. Was set up to hear her play at Selby when covid struck......................... then she was gone................
Incredible playing by the most glamorous organist these British Isles has ever produced. Fiesty and firey - at first, the Final of Vierne 1 seems a bit too fast, but the electric energy of Jane's playing is such that it just carries you along in a tumult of organ sound. Quite spikey, that 1979 Kleuker organ (95-stops). Many thanks for posting this valuable reminder of JP-S's many gifts.
The greatest organist this country has ever known Rest in Peace
Exciting! One of the first organ LP that I bought as a teenager was one by Miss Parker-Smith. A formidable organist that left us too soon.
She was a firecracker! Wish I had seen her perform.
What an absolute legend! A truly stunning human being.
I'm surprised that I have never heard of Ms. Smith before this. Thank you.
I was fortunate to hear her play the organ at Longwood Gardens in Kennet Square, PA, when she was 23 years old. I have never forgotten how great she was. R.I.P. great lady.
I was at the Longwood program also - her playing was splendid!
My god she was magnificent!!
What a great lady Jane was. Her playing came from her soul.
I am fortunate to own a Vista (now gone) recording of JP-S at Blackburn Cathedral, in which she performs a rare Toccata by Leonce de Ste. Martin. She would be 73-years-old now. She left a solid legacy - unquestionably!
Ganz herzlichen Dank für das Hochladen!
Da werden Erinnerungen wach...
Thank you so much for this priceless upload. Spellbinding and magnificent...I can barely believe my eyes that I get to 'see' Jane P-S performing again. And in a film recorded the year I was born?!
I was lucky enough to attend a concert she gave in Birmingham Symphony Hall in 2005...a huge programme of romantic masterpieces, many off the beaten track. She didn't hold back, she was completely fearless and the whole space thrummed and sang to her playing. My heart skipped more than a few beats that night - unforgettable ❤
I was at that concert ỉn Symphony Hall Birmingham as well
@@user-qd9rh5yr8m awww really?? My friend and I still talk about it now. I was really thrilled when Jane sunsequently (or perhaps she already had done) recorded the Ravanello 'Adorazione' on one of her last three CD albums. Hope that you have fond memories of that concert too
Yes, Jane finished with the Lanquetit Toccata
Greetings from Canada! I had no idea ANYONE could play notes so fast! Truly am amazing performance!
I sadly missed seeing her ever perform live. I so wish I had. Thank you for posting this.
Unbelievably exciting & musical.🎉
I was fortunate to meet Jane after a recital she gave at All Souls, Langham Place.
Jane visited the RNCM to adjudicate our organ prize competition in 2003, and seemed to take great delight in joining the students and tutors for a curry and *plenty* of drinks afterwards! I was a bit starstruck but found her to be really genuine and fun
How wonderful is that!!
what a treasure. Thank you!
Markus Graser, the organ builder in charge of this organ, had told me the invisible story: right before she arrived, a note broke down and could not close after having been played. So he remained all the time inside the organ and each time the note was played, he had to push it back in place. Till next note in the score. 😂
Gorgeous!
Hello Gary, thank you for your message and thank you again for this wonderful film. I agree with you; Jane just had that indefinable 'something'. I still can't believe she's gone.
I wonder if you have her very early recordings of Widor’s 2nd and 3rd Symphonys (performances that opened up a whole new and wonderful world for me as a very young man) and a really rare recording of Widor’s Suite Latine plus the Trois Nouvelles Pieces? If you do have them and ever have the time, please consider uploading them to TH-cam.
With my best wishes, James
@garynilsson416 Hello again Gary, that's enormously kind of you. I will indeed be in touch. Every good wish, James
Sorry to weigh in on this conversation, but I happen to have those rare LPs which feature Jane playing Widors 2 & 3, Coventry Cathedral organ. They're fantastic. Her recording of Symphonies 5 & 7 that she made in St Eustache in the 90's is absolutely breathtaking
@chrisdyter1440 You know Chris, as an adolescent I used to borrow those recordings of the 2nd and 3rd Symphonys regularly from my local library; in my opinion, those particular recordings of these works have never been bettered. When I later came to learn those pieces, Jane's performances were always in the back of my mind (and still are to this day) and served as the benchmark and inspiration.
I can't say it enough: Jane; a wonderful, wonderful musician and a really lovely lady.
I can understand that! She must have liked the Coventry organ if her return to record her 'French Romantics' LP us anything to go by! I started learning the organ in the 90's, and I don't know why but I bought Jane's St Eustache Widor recording in HMV one day, owning at that point only two other organ CDs and not knowing a thing about this guy called Widor, or "organ symphonies"...I listened and couldn't quite get my head around what I was hearing/feeling. I was stunned. Particularly, I listened to the Allegro Vivace from Symphony 5 on repeat at least five times initially - still my absolute, hands-down favourite! I met Jane once when I was a student..but I don't think at that time I could articulate just how life-enhancing her recordings were to me. Since she died I realise lots of people feel like that about her
This incredible!! Thank you so much for this!!
I asked her i I could record her York Minster recital a few years ago, D Briggs and D Sanger said yes... she said no, but a friend did, so got a copy
Marvellous
Thanks for uploading this! I miss Jane terribly, just as so many of us do. Here's a link to her playing at the RAH London with Dame Edna! Her solo part is from 49:20 - 50:05, and check out the gown!!! th-cam.com/video/8puL5DlWr2o/w-d-xo.html
I'd totally forgotten about Jane doing that. What an amazing frock, and of course Jane could bring that off in a way probably no other could. Yes, a wonderful, wonderful musician and she knew how to live life to the full.
Are there really no video recordings of her in later years?
