    I love the calm of the video, too many times music is used as the backdrop of the video, here it is simply the yard and the trucks that convey the scene. Good work also amazing trucks.

    Lots of Studebakers there. They were used extensively in the construction of the ALCAN highway. We also sent them to Soviet Union via the Lend Lease program. The Russians loved them, and called them Studers.

    great video. I like that they all run. that's rare. a labor of love, yes sir. probably doesn't even feel like work. it must be a thrill to crank one up after sitting for awhile, and take it for a spin around the property. keep up the great work you are doing, and thanks for sharing.

    Good to see so many still run.
    If you have a good old machine that you will be parking for a while, attach some anode zincs in many places.
    That will really help control the corrosion ! ! !
    It works on boats, it works really well on vehicles and equipment too.

    Love this video, Loved to the see the Studebaker US6. My granddad used to drive one, on the farm, where he worked in the 1950's, in the U.K . Hercules engine sounds good. I'd say that the Studebaker looks a better vehicle, than the Jimmy, and really looks good and sounds good for a 70 year old truck, or lorry as we say in the U.K

    I liked the Chevrolet (GMC?) cabover at 7:56.
    Yeah, I know; but, before you get too rough on me...
    ...I own a Kaiser/Jeep XM-811A five-ton van (Cummins NHC 250), and it was the daily driver for my wife and me for several years. We still drive it to go camping, in parades, and so on, but, thankfully, we no longer have to spend twenty dollars for enough diesel to go buy groceries.
    Economy (?!??!!) is 4.2 MPG, and the (ten (10) @ $400) tires are good for about 15,000 miles. Say what you will, but driving a military truck on a daily basis is hard-core!

      Dad bought the GMC Cab-over brand new in 1973. The truck had a 2700 gallon propane tank on it and made us a lot of money over the years. It has a 5 speed trans , air brakes , two speed axle and 427 engine (probably its third or fourth one). In the nineties my Uncle put the boom on the truck when the propane tank was removed and the truck was retired. I have a lot of fond memories riding with Dad on trips to Kenai in that truck when I was a kid. Its hard to believe the unit is over 40 years old now , yet it handles the boom very well and is still a good solid truck.
      Thanks for watching!

    A Mighty Salute to you for your awesome trucks an dedication Sir! I cant wait to get an old beat up vehicle one day to fix up an make run as a project and love for it, only problem is i dont know much about fixing cars or theyre parts an i'd love to learn. Family i grew up in wasn't into cars or engines and i am so unfortunately an naturally dont have that knowledge that i wish i did. Didnt get to grow up with it like some people get to do. I love anything to do with offroading aswell an it'd be sweet to build up an old truck or car to do that one day, you know like take an old muscle car an lift it something an put some rugged offroad tires on it or build some kind of crazy contraption to offroad with. Just wish i had a mentor to teach me whats what with cars

    with these guys on t.v. redoing old cars, working miracles it would be nice to show how to realistically repower and modernise these trucks, yknow small bocks and adapter plate kits,12 volt conversions etc . then regular guys can get them going and put them back to reliable and functional for work and play, i used to see them made into log skidders, all the towns pushed snow with them. get another 15 years out of them without making some thing that sells for 35 grand on barrett jackson. thanks guy bill h.

    • @jameslandon4126
      @jameslandon4126 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Most of the guys on TV have no taste and ruin the classics. A modern drivetrain repower like an EFI crate v8 in Mustang or Camaro that once had a worn out 6 cylinder is one thing. However, taking the inline 6 out of one of these old warhorses would be like neutering it. Even if you threw a 700HP v8 under the hood it would never quite have the same class, character, attitude, and most important, the same reliability that those old inline 6's have. I've seen many trucks, even some older than the 1940's that sat for decades and still fired right up with some fresh gas and a new battery. EFI equipped engines are a nightmare to bring back to life once they've sat a long period of time. Hell, they're a nightmare to keep on the road even if you drive them every day.

    What is the setup with the twin driveshafts? Is this before power dividers came along?

    • @AlaskaTrucker
      @AlaskaTrucker  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thats a good question. The logic for two rear drive shafts was in the event that one rear drive shaft was lost the truck would still have 2/3 of its drive potential remaining (remember it has a shaft for the steer axle too).
      A 6x6 truck that was designed with only a single rear shaft would lose 2/3 of its drive potential if the rear shaft were lost which might render it useless on the battlefield.
