  • In this video I replace the spool seal on a John Deere 410g extendahoe valve

    Wow! I’m impressed that you did this with the valve block still on the machine. Good work!

    Thanks for the video. It gives me the confidence to handle this problem on my John Deere mini excavator. I'm curious as to how tight you screw in the 1/4" inch drive allen screw on the bottom spring. Is it a matter of counting turns or is it just a matter of threads running out and not torquing it too tight? Kind Regards, Craig

      If your talking about the one that goes through the spring in the bottom then I just tightened it. The bolt has a shoulder on it so it will bottom out on the shoulder and you just go tight. You don’t need to do anything special to it.

    I’m surprised you installed that return spring with no lock tight. 😢

    Thanks for your video, I have to do this on my 310G, hoping it goes as smoothly. I wanted to ask, what tires you have on the back, we do a lot of turf driving with ours and yours look compatible for that.
    Thanks

      That backhoe isn’t here but our 410k has Nokian tri2 tires which I think are the same tread pattern. I want to say the 410g has bkt tires but I don’t recall exactly.

    You made that look easy, do you suppose you could do this to the other valves on towards the center or would you have to disassemble more?

    • @JasonTheMunicipalMechanic
      @JasonTheMunicipalMechanic  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The other valves are more complex because of the pilot controls. I haven’t had one apart yet, But if I do I’ll make a video of it.

    Do you Think the entire valve body assembly could be removed? Nice video. Thanks

      Thank you. You can remove the valve assembly. It’s actually only held in with a few bolts but there are about 14 hoses on it. I wouldn’t try to remove it unless I had to, at least on this machine anyway.

    My spool valve on my John Deere 401D is leaking out the top. If I can find the gaskets do you know if I can take just the top off to replace the gasket. Thanks good video

      I’m not familiar with the valve you have but this site has breakdowns for parts and the part numbers so you might be able to locate them. partscatalog.deere.com/jdrc/ it’s where I got the kit number for mine. If your working on a valve like the one I’m working on there are orings between the valves and they are all bolted together.

      @@JasonTheMunicipalMechanic I see the parts but what I wanted your opinion on is can I only take the top off to replace the o ring under the top or do I need to release the bottom also. Thanks

      Oh now I get it. You should be able to do just one side if you want. I don’t think it would be an issue. If it’s not hard to get to the other side I would do both seals because you might need to at least partially take the other side apart to push the spool in enough to replace the seal, but you would not need to remove the spring from the spool if you did one side so there’s that. You might be able to get the seal in but I had a hard time trying to push the seal into the bore with the spool in fully because of the shape of it. You will probably need to at least take the lower cap off. I needed to push the spool out until it was just past the seal. Just be careful you don’t push out the bottom seal when pushing the spool back. It happened to me and I needed to redo it. Try and hold the plate that is under the bottom spring tight against the valve to keep the seal in. And don’t push it too far or it will fall into the grove that is cut in the spool that lets the fluid through. Push it down just enough to get the seal in.

      @@JasonTheMunicipalMechanic Thank you for your help and time. I am going to try and take the top off only and see if it can be done that way. It will be a little while yet before I do it but I will get back to you and let you know how it went
