Totally agree with your suggestion about NOT buying designer diamonds-no one knows a Tiffany ring on your hand unless you carry the blue box with you!!!
100% agree! Most Tiffany stuff looks the same as what you can get at Jared or even Macy’s tbh. I’m not against spending money on nice jewelry, but there are so many amazing small jewelry companies that have unique, but still classic and gorgeous rings for much less than Tiffany’s.
@@jennifermorris833 I go straight to diamond dealers. You know exactly where it is coming from and get the best deals. However this is mostly for tennis bracelets, diamond studs, very simple designs that you give the dealer yourself. I do think that designer jewelry has some beautiful pieces and sets that are not as easily replaceable.
Diamonds in general are massively overpriced but Tiffanys' are obscene. De Beers have created artificial scarcity with cartels and made them into luxury, whereas in fact diamonds are common and should not be anywhere near as expensive as they are. The trick is obviously quality, cut and grade, and for this I would consult the diamond dealer experts as @Riv Racost suggests.
So true about designer clothes for children. I bought my son an adorable romper from Baby Dior. He wore it only once as he ended up playing in the mud and the outfit was totally ruined. The stains never went out. Lesson learnt. Only bought Walmart for my kids thereafter and that was perfect and way more practical for them. I was also at another party where the mom wouldn’t let her kid participate in the games because he was wearing something very expensive. Poor kid looked so sad and my heart went out to him.
Designer children clothes are made for the people with disposable money, not even superich would buy it.. its for the people who have to put a certain appearance like celebrity and socialites.. not complaining though its their money they can do whatever they want..
I retailored my moms 60 year old wedding dress and it was gorgeous, inexpensive, classic and sentimental. Then in the program I had a picture of her in it in the day. I turned a long sleeve satin fitted up top sweetheart neckline dress into a halter top with same full skirt.
I am older and on a fixed income. I shop the thrift stores. You would be amazed at the wonderful clothes I find, not as much with the advent of Ebay, etc., but still I see top of the line items (I am in the Dallas area). Where there's a will, there's a way.
$400 for a tacky print umbrella? Some of the most chic umbrellas I've seen are $1 from a Tokyo konbini. Transparent with white trim. It goes with everything.
Great video! Was traveling with a friend once, and she had this beautiful LV luggage. I guess someone thought there would be expensive things inside and they destroyed the luggage trying to break into it. It was awful. I felt so bad for her!
I grew up in Europe and the wealthy people i know they are the most modest! All their clothes are really good quality and they buy them from upscale department stores but you would never see them all decked out in all designer clothes flashing logos from head to toe! It’s embarrassing and it looks tacky! When I was younger I would almost judge them for looking a little boring but they are just classy inside and out!
I agree with you sometimes it can get out of control. These days i don’t believe in buying disposable pieces. I have a bit of jewelry that was handed down to me and those are the pieces I cherish. I try to make sure I buy pieces I can also hand down.
As someone who has worked for private mom and pop jeweler's, and Cartier, I have to be completely transparent @stylehard... Very FEW run of the mill jeweler's, can match the artisanal mastery, the same finish, and taste of say, a Cartier, or Van Cleef & Arpels. There is of course a premium, but that's because the diamonds are without a doubt the most sublime qualities, and the workers are actually paid well and trained in Europe by master jewelers. So, yes one can get the same gold weight, and maybe even same color diamond at a regular average jeweler, but the finish, and even aesthetic, is not going to be the same. There are exceptions, but, less than 2% can complete in that regard.
So there is a difference between a GIA certified diamond at Tiffany versus a local jeweler that both have the exact same color, cut, carat, and clarity grade? I agree, once the diamond is selected and a bespoke design is chosen one must be sure to use a highly skilled craftsmen to actually create the ring but are you saying diamond themselves are different? I simply don’t believe that only a Tiffany craftsman can create and execute a beautiful bespoke ring.
@@har5387 I did mention assuming it's the same diamond quality, that doesn't mean the finish and quality of the overall piece will be the same. Most mom and pops will have a little bit of what I call a "wonk". Less than 2% will have the same look and feel as these elite European Maisons. And the jewelry mountings in the cases is often made by wholesalers, who make the mounts in Asia... And it's fine, not everyone nitpicks about fine details, they just want the look on a "budget". Also, most private jewelers, once they take your down payment, it's non-refundable. So if your custom ring isn't exactly what you wanted. You're stuck with it. So just a heads up.
@@randolph1917 Staggering statistic! I really feel for all of those trying to get a beautiful bespoke ring made. I honestly had no idea you could only get a beautifully crafted ring made at a designer in luxury house. Thank you so much for this valuable information. I’ll have a discussion today with my SA at Cartier during my appointment. Maybe I need to discuss replacing my engagement ring with her while I’m there.
Agreed, people no longer buy for quality, just flex and it make you look so cringe. I had my jeweler make me a wedding band in the same style as Tiffany's for far less in platinum with diamonds. Nothing different other than status and recognition. I refuse to buy any luxury that is easily recognizable. I am looking for quality and shape, not logo. One thing I have to say, I watch style hard because Meytal you do not film in front of a horrible handbag wall and you wear clothing in your videos that are classic and not easily identifiable. That's what I want for myself. A small logo here or there is okay, but if you are wearing clothing that screams trend I cannot be bothered.
I’m frugal but I did buy my Cartier watch secondhand for $1,000 and love it! I paid to have it authenticated so yes it’s real. I recommend secondhand for many things!
I got a lab ground not engagement ring five years ago in peoples jaw drop when I tell them these days because it’s become like this thing but when I got it was so hush-hush and I got it from a jeweler in the diamond District in Manhattan and I love it.
I've got a Balmain watch and it's got a Swiss movement. Had it for 10 years and it hasn't missed a beat. I got it on sale and it's been a great purchase; it looks really good with anythigng I wear. But it's not a gimmicky style watch it's a classic but it does have an arabic design in the face. It's just a very good quality watch.
I own a boutique fine jewelry manufacturer and hands down our jewelry is on par or even sometimes better than Cartier, Tiffany’s, and Harry Winston. Their prices astonished on me on the regular.
Bonus tip: I’m drawn to timeless pieces so if people want to spend money on luxury items I say timeless items will get the most value out of it. Stay away from trendy items when buying luxury!
Just stumbled across your channel for the first time. I really loved the spot and the angle you chose for this video, and your posture makes you look chic and elegant, also the knitted dress suits you stunningly. As for the content, I totally agree with you!
I actually did a lot of research on the difference between real diamonds and lab grown diamonds and overtime lab grown diamonds get foggy and yellow and all kinds of other different crazy stuff where Diamond diamonds kind of stay the same
Girl I’m glade I found your channel cause you are a true fashion expert . Ok so I’m guilty of getting big luxury logos on my shirts . I don’t have a lot of them just one maybe two . It’s not a lot of them nor does it take up the whole shirt . I try to aim toward quiet luxury as much as possible .
The most expensive bath robe I've ever bought was a Diesel on sale at like 50$ LOL! And it was a gift for the husband because his old one was falling apart. Designer luggage is not only too expensive, it also paints a bullseye on your back to get mugged. Couldn't agree more on the watches. Get a good brand watch. if necessary have just one. If Rolex is too much flex, get Omega, Breitling, Tudor... There is also Grand Seiko. So so many good quality brands. A fashion watch is wasted money. Nobody will buy that thing pre-loved if you want to get rid of it.
I love my rainboots and soon due for a new pair but I'm not about to drop luxury money on them, there are equal quality boots for less than $100. As for watches, my husband is a self-proclaimed watch snob and doesn't see the value in most luxury house watches but wouldn't mind spending some money on an entry level IWC.
I think fashion diamond items in classic style may be worth for long term investment but if you aren’t going to sell it e.g a wedding ring (I guess most people don’t sell their wedding ring) then the branding isn’t important.
Love your channel. I agree with you about going to a jeweler for a diamond. But I also wanted to correct you regarding lab diamonds they are not real diamonds. They are grown in a lab and they are man-made. They are not natural real diamonds and do not hold the value of a natural real diamond. They also decrease in value. And real diamonds increase in value.
This video is hilarious! I’ve actually been contemplating buying the Versace robe and the Chanel rain boots, but was trying to decide if they’re really worth it! 🤷🏾♀️😂 I still may buy the Versace robe cause I hear it’s so comfy and soft. I think I can pass on the Chanel rain boots though.
For my wedding I just got a nice custom made dress in pink that is wearable in other occasions too. It's a total waste of money the wedding dress. I didn't wait for my wedding to get all dolled up.
So, here’s my point about luxury brand umbrellas or sunglasses etc. if you could guarantee that I won’t EVER forget my 600 Burberry umbrella at the restaurant where I’ve had lunch then, ok…I guess I might be persuaded if there was a compelling reason. For my money, I’d much rather by a decent quality umbrella and put the rest of the money - maybe even as much as 550(?) towards a piece of gold jewellery. That’s just me…the thing that mostly gets me about the designer brands whether it’s from Tommy Hilfiger to Versace or chi chi Chanel, I always think of it this way, “so le,me get this straight…you want me to pay 5 or 10 or 20x the money for an often inferior product so that I can advertise your brand for you for free?” My answer to that is almost always “pound sand”. 😉 but if it means that much to you, great…you do you. The thing is, really wealthy people - I’m talking Scrooge McDuck rich - they rarely sport giant logos on their clothing because they buy extremely good quality pieces, fine fabrics or leathers and they have them made to fit and they don’t need logos because they wear their fine quality items with such supreme confidence and the knowledge that they are wearing something special, made for them and they end up having a kind of ‘shiny-happy’ people look about them. They don’t need logos to make it LOOK like they’re rich while paying off their VISA card at minimum payment so they can sport a tricky-tacky extra large logo. But as I said, this is my opinion…I’m not trying to convince or discourage anyone from buying designer luxury brands.
